Hi. I purchased Western Digital Passport Ultra last year (26-5-2015) from a local shop and he mentioned 1 year warranty on the invoice. Unfortunately my harddisk having odd bevahior. It becomes very slow and even stops responding sometimes when connected with TV. I registered the product on Western Digital support and it told me that I can claim the warranty till 2018, it has 3 years limited warranty. Now I want to ask how can I claim that 3 years limited warranty altough the shop keeper gave me and wrote 1 year warranty on the invoice. Can anyone help me.

EDIT: Can I approach the Pakistan distributor of Western Digital i.e Pakistan Office Products to claim the warranty even though I have purchased it from a local shop and have invoice in its name not POP.

I don't think you can claim warranty for your HDD directly from POP. Many shopkeepers sell grey channel items for which they give one year warranty themselves. You cannot claim warranty for these products from POP even during that one year period.

But if the shopkeeper got this HDD from POP then you can ask the shopkeeper to send it for warranty claim. The difference between warranty claim within one year and after one year is that after one year period they claim shipment charges from the customer for warranty claim. Many customers have issue with this so they simply say that warranty is for one year to avoid such issues.

If the shopkeeper simply refuses to send it for warranty even when you are ready to pay for shipment then I'm afraid it was a grey channel product that had no official warranty from POP.

Update: I justed called POP Peshawar Office and told them the whole story.About the 3 years warranty claim they replied that they offer 1 year local warrant (so no blame over shopkeeper as he offered the same) but they also told me that I can bring the HDD to their office to see if they can help. I then asked how can I claim the 3 years international warranty they again asked me to bring the HDD to their office to see if they can do anything. So I will be going to their office today. Will update.

I am back from the POP. Long story short. The guy told me even though the 1 year local warranty is expired he will try to replace it (3 years international warranty) and I will have to bear courier charges. He said he will confirm it and let me know in 2-3 days

utorrent i really appreciate that u opened a thread and then shared the solution you found and also you are updating with whatever u got. Thats what make help forums really helpful

Warranty claim here in Pakistan isnt that simple as it should be but the shopkeepers who are proper retailers are much better in warranty clam response.

Buddy can you please share the courier charges that you paid ?

Overseas replacements take around 30-35 days. In case I got my motherboard replaced. They asked for courier charges but since my product was still in warranty I asked them to pay on their own. I am not bearing any charges. Also I guess there is 3 years limited warranty on HDDs. They usually get it repaired. And the cost of repairing has to be paid.
