[HELP]PC won't turn on with GPU plugged

Greetings!

Last month I faced an issue with my PC and I tried my best not to create a thread about it since there are so many "[HELP]" threads made everyday and decided to go through it by myself and I almost did... until today.

Here's a little summary of what happened:-

I was as usual derping around the interwebz as all of a sudden my pc shutdown and didn't turn back on. However, when I removed my external gpu and tried turning it on using on-board graphics, it did turn on but with no visual on my monitor. I was convinced that either my powersupply, GPU or motherboard had gotten bad.

2 days later, turns out, my motherboard had gotten faulty within 6 months of purchase and had to be sent for warranty claim. It was a long wait I had to go through but at least my wallet was safe.

Today, I got my motherboard back. It got replaced and I got a new one. As soon as I finished assembling everything, I tried turning it on but it was like, lifeless; just like before. But as soon as I removed my GPU it kickstarted fine and dandy, mind you, with display.

Now it's down to my GPU and the powersupply. Here's where I need your help. Is it my GPU (Gtx 460 Calibre) which was bought just a year ago from Iamextreme or my powersupply which was bought almost 3 - 4 years ago. But do remember it's still powering my PC just fine but without an external GPU plugged in.

this is UR gpu bro.
as the system is getting powered up..
it means its getting the sufficient power to turn on the system but no the GPU..
what u need to do is try the GPU 1st on another system....to confirm thats its the gpu.
otherwise u have to change the PSU and check....that is it giving proper power to the GPU...
so this can only be tested...in this way...
so try it out and let us know..!!!

Could it be possible that your PSU somehow fried both your GPU and MOBO. there is a chance that the PSU might be the culprit. Or maybe your PSU isn't able to take the load of the GPU. :/

What PSU it is ?

Since its not powering up, so I guess PSU is dying and unable to bear the load of GPU and if so, it can cause loss to other components as well. I think if it was GPU, the system should have powered up at least even it could not show a display. So check your GPU on an other system having compatible PSU or check your system with an other good PSU.

Ohhhh........CM Extreme 500W.....I witnessed tons of complaints against this particular PSU on PG. I Hope and pray it has not fried your GPU.

Yup extreme power series Sucks big time. My friend had a 600W and he was highly disappointed

I would say it's your power supply that's going bad.

Without further ado, check the 12 and 5 volt rails and report back with the voltages.

change it before u loose all ur precious components..
and get a good reliable PSU...!!!

Just check the 12v rail from the molex connector,if it is off limit your psu is at fault.

Thank you for your replies. So it's decided, it's the powersupply. I'll still first try my GPU on a friend's PC though.

Also, recommend me a powersupply for my PC while you're at it. The cheapest and the one that would suffice.

Get a Xigmatek pc 502.
To check voltage,insert red wire of multimeter into yellow wire of molex,and black into black.

Oh.. I gotta have some equipment to check that. I'll go with a new PSU anyway.

And you recommended a 500W powersupply. Is 500W enough?

I have the same card as yours,a heavier cpu and im running the same psu.

This time dont go with coolermaster.
Try to get a 500 to 600W PSU of Ximatek or Antec.
They are much reliable brands.

Use Bios to check it. Other methods include Hardware Monitor, but it's not reliable.

PSU seems fine. A bit on the higher side but not critical. Failure is anything above 12.5 and below 11.6

Plug in the GPU and gave another screen shot if possible.
