Hi everyone!,
I'm looking forward to apply at a university/college in the us this november, and I haven't taken the SAT yet.
I would like your advice on which book is the best in order to prepare for SAT I & SAT II(English & US History), also let me know how much time of studying would be enough(eg. a month).
I also heard that people conduct classes for SAT's, are they any good?

Thanks!

The Official SAT Study Guide by CollegeBoard is the best book by far. It's got 10 practice tests that should keep you busy for a while. You can also find torrents for CB's paid online resource, which'll give you another 6 test to practice from. And for test-taking tips and advice, Princeton Review is pretty good.

P.S. Barron's is a piece of crap.

Yeah I gave the test in Dec. Classes don't help much, I took a demo class from Anees Hussain and all they did was hand me a printed copy of the test in the official sat study guide, so it's pretty useless IMO.

The questions in Barron's are quite different from the type that you get in the test. The book I mentioned is made by CollegeBoard itself so it's the closest you can get.

Barrons is NOT crap. They may give you questions which are down right tedious to do but they also have some tricky questions and their material I think is quite good(chemistry esp.)
.....
you do realize we're talking about SAT I here? -__-

I prepared for SAT II from Barron's too, it's good in that department, not so much for I though.

University of Illinois at Urbana Champagne.
University of Michigan
Georgia Institute of Technology
Northwestern University
Purdue University
....and many more. These are just off the top of my head. All are in the top 100 range worldwide so they're hard to get into, but not completely impossible like the Ivies, UC Berkley and Caltech.

Nope. I had major financial constraints so I could only apply to the Ivies (which offer full 100% tuition grants), and as expected, I couldn't get in :D

About the second question, why give history? If you'll apply to CS/CE, all unis that require SAT II will ask for at least Physics and Maths (level I or II), some may even require a third subject (which you could give any, but chem would be better).

yes but some don't require specific subs, they only want two more tests, and I'm in a really say weird/awkward/rare condition regarding my studies :/, would love to discuss it with you if you don't mind, but not here, pm or im?
