Aoa guys,

As the title says my trusty 6950 has given up on me after its fan died (got jammed). No display.

So i gave it to a local repair wala, i saw no harm in it cuz it was dead anyway but after 3 days he gave it back for me to test, he didnt have a high-end system to test it in his shop. I hooked it up and fired up the system and I got display i jumped with joy only to see the display black out after ~30 seconds or so.. doesnt matter what i do it blacks out after roughly this amount of time.. boot to safe mode, stare at the BIOS menu, boot normally.. no change..

This incident has opened up the possibility of repair in my mind, i need you guys to tell me a reliable banda that can do gpu repairs.. :clap

Try baking the card. Its worth a try. I baked my 9800GT instead of throwing it away 2 years ago after it started giving artifacts and since then its working without a problem

I would advise against it. The Lead in the card's solders becomes volatile at high temps and can result in Lead poisoning, if not right away then maybe the Lead residue that will be left in your oven till the next time you cook something in it. It might not have happened to a lot of people but still not worth the risk imo. You could get it reflowed from somewhere instead.

Oh yeah i heard about this a while back. Bake just the PCB? At what temp and for how long?
pre-heat the oven to 300 degree for 10 minutes and then remove heatsink and fan from the card and put the PCB of the card on a small tray covered with aluminium foil. and put it inside the oven for 8 minute. after that take it out of the oven and let it cool down then put the heatsink back on the card and plug into the computer and test it. Dont use microwave oven
