The Game of Thrones prequel starring Naomi Watts has been reportedly canceled, Deadlinereports.
The prequel — not to be confused with the four other gestating Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works at HBO — was set to take place thousands of years before the original HBO series. Jane Goldman (Kingsmen) wrote the script, which focused on the “Age of Heroes” and the first battle between a man and a White Walker.
Watts, who was going to star in an unspecified role, was joined by Marquis Rodriguez (Manifest), John Simm (Strangers), Richard McCabe (Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams), John Heffernan (Dracula), and Dixie Egerickx (Summerland). According to Deadline, reports of post-production and filming issues contributed to the cancelation.
Meanwhile, the other Game of Thrones prequel, which focuses on House Targaryen, is still supposedly happening. Previously, author George R.R. Martin had hinted at three spin-offs in the works at HBO.
“We have had five different Game of Thrones successor shows in development at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely,” he wrote.
There is no further news on the other Game of Thrones shows in the works at HBO.
