How To Patch a Counter-Strike Server for Non-Steam

Because dproto is a Metamod plugin, you must first install Metamod [<-- click]. If you already have it installed, you may skip Metamod installation and continue reading.

Installation:

Download dproto_0_9_87.rar and extract anywhere on your drive.

Copy either the Windows DLL (dproto.dll) or the Linux SO (dproto_i386.so) from dproto_0_9_87/bin folder.

In your cstrike/addons directory, create a folder called dproto and paste the file.

Go to cstrike/addons/metamod and edit the plugins.ini using a text editor, such as notepad.

Add the following lines for Windows dedicated servers:
Code:
win32 addons\dproto\dproto.dll
OR
Add the following lines for Linux dedicated servers:
Code:
linux addons/dproto/dproto_i386.so

Copy dproto.cfg from dproto_0_9_87 folder and paste it into your server's root directory, where hlds.exe or hlds_run is.

(Re)start the server.

After restarting the server, type meta list in the server's console to see whether it has been installed successfully or not. It should look like this:
