GPU has stopped working

So I've been using Sapphire 7870 for the past two years. It worked great until a week ago. I switched on my PC but found artifacts on the screen, and was greeted by this login screen:

After entering password, I get this screen:

Looked at the GPU and only one fan was running. Took it out, checked the fan and put the gpu back in. Still the same problem. Since it was running fine uptil now, I doubt if it's a software issue. Has somebody encountered this problem before, or can advice me what to do next?

i experienced the first sceenshot when my GTX 260 was about to gone in a day. artifacts issues incurred when gpu is refurbished or overheating sometimes or hardware itself issue.. it might cover its life now. you can sell it for few bucks to get something out of nothing.

if you can open it and try to reapply the paste on chip then it may be recover. but i am not sure. try experimenting on it. you will learn many things.

probably GPU issue as said by nafu..
still you can try to clean the PC and card, reinsert RAMs, try another PSU, try the GPU on another PC...

bro life is gone for the card..
its over now..
so better change the card.
i can check the card if u want...
but trust me vram and chip issues...dont get resolved...
its time for a new card bro

I haven't played much games at all these past couple of years, but was really looking forward to finally finish games after my exams next week.
Anyway what card would you guys recommend within a reasonable budget, which gives me a similar performance?

yeah, Just do experiment on it. if not then sell it on PG, you can get something whatever your luck.

270x/660 are similar performer within 16K budget. but if you can find 7950 3gb then it is best bang for buck under 17K range. old But GOLD

same problems i faced when i've gts 250...and i went to the hardware expert man and he did the same as nafu said and card was again working fine but after 6-7 months same problems were starting...btw its time to change the gpu
