The Pakistani government is considering to set up a strict national internet blocking system, erecting a Pakistani firewall on the lines of the great Chinese firewall, for censorship. But one thing it is doing good is that it is aiming against pornographic sites which are spoiling our society. But it could be used for other sites too. The shops selling porn dvds have been around for ages and that is not a concern to be addressed?

When they get to blocking websites, they block all sorts of websites in the name of porn.

Last time I checked, neither Sears nor rolling stone magazine were pornographic websites.

20 will buy cd's once the censorship firewall is in effect.

I'd say a decrease of 80% is quite an improvement.

As a person who has worked at computer/cd shop for some time I can attest to the fact that MORE people watch it on DVDs, CDs than they do online.

The shop was owned by a friend who needed help setting it and we gladly helped as much as we could for years till he sold the shop and left for Canada.

NOW.

That shop is owned by some folks who sell computer stuff, I go there every now and then just for hello hi and per day around 50-60 porn DVDs are rented out.

Few months back when porn was completely blocked by some ISPs, the guys at the shop told me that they didn't have enough cds to fulfill the customer demand.

AND I was asked by some shop keepers at rainbow centers to burn porn dvds for them because they didn't have access to porn sites anymore.

That's ONE shop, covering ONE little residential area in Karachi.

Now do the math on total number of cd shops in karachi.

Do the math on total number of cd shops all over Pakistan.


IF/WHEN they block porn online, I'm pretty sure other offline mediums. i.e. Cafes that display porn, B grade cinemas, DVD sales will sky rocket.

That when porn was blocked by PTA, the dvd rental and sales went up 200%
