Difference b/w hardware & software card

well i heard in our common language about da graphics cards dat this is a hardware card n dis is software card..so it really true if yes how one can judge dat the card is a hardware or software . And wat it makes da differecne between these .. And if we picked up a card in our hand how we judge dat is it a hardware card or software...n can we judge it from its model & series..
All the help on this matter will be really appreciated to all.

There are no hardware cards or software cards. In layman's term Graphics card is a hardware required to run 2D and 3D software on a computer.

Every computer has a graphics card. Built in or external. Withoug it you can not run a monitor.

What you mean is SOFTWARE mode. Thats direct x powered with most processing going through the processor.

If you have a dedicated GPU your processor works lesser and so faster.

Shopkeepers in a vague way refer to a low end or builtin VGA as software and a high end as hardware.
If you r in for buying a VGA card for games state its model and price and the members here would guide u better than the shopkeeper.

there is no such thing as a software card. I think what he means is trying to emulate graphics via cpu aka software rendering. a graphic card is the sole purpose of rendering graphics so that cpu can perform better.

dude, do you even know what hardware is. even in class 5 we learn hardware is any physical component in the system, in that case how do you say

ok thnx.... well i am just asking bkz i have heard many times this hardware and software card from shopkeepers... well i am using MSI NX8800GT so do you ppl think i didnt know what a GPU is ....i was just a myth kinda thing .... well thanx to you all guys....
