[h=2]Xbox's chief has put more than 300 hours into Destiny[/h]

As Microsoft's boss of Xbox, Phil Spencer should be a busy man. But he's not so busy that he can't log 346 hours of playtime in Destiny.
That is according to an Xbox Live profile picture tweeted out this morning by another Xbox executive, Mike Ybarra. See for yourself here.

I think @XboxP3 likes to play Destiny. 300+ hours! #gamer pic.twitter.com/WrKM0Qvht8
— Mike Ybarra (@XboxQwik) August 8, 2015
According to his profile page on Bungie.net, Phil rocks a level 34 Titan and a level 13 Hunter.
Destiny launched 333 days ago, to be precise, so that's more than an hour a day he's putting into this. Activision this week told investors that the average user has put about 100 hours into the game.
It's an impressive commitment, especially in light of Destiny's agreement with Sony to provide exclusive content for PlayStation. That content won't start showing up on Xbox One until after the next expansion, The Taken King, launches on Sept. 15. The Taken King also features PlayStation-exclusive content that will not hit Xbox until at least fall 2016.

[h=2]Why is Destiny replacing Dinklage? 'Hollywood nonsense,' says producer[/h]

Destiny is replacing Peter Dinklage's voice with Nolan North's not because Bungie was dissatisfied with Dinklage's work, but because his acting commitments elsewhere made him less available to work when Bungie needed him.
Executive producer Mark Noseworthy told Game Informer it was "Hollywood nonsense" that led to Dinklage's departure. North, a prolific video game voice actor, is a better fit because "this is his thing.

"You can just call him up and say, 'Hey, next week we're doing this internal play test and it would be great to get some Ghost dialogue in there,'" Noseworthy said. "And he's available."
North takes over as Ghost, the AI companion to the player in the sci-fi shooter. Dinklage's acting raised eyebrows during the game's beta, in which his voice did not yet have the modulation or effects that made him sound like a nonhuman character. One line, "That wizard came from the moon," became a meme, was removed, then added back in.
North will replace all of Dinklage's work, so it's unknown if the wizard/moon line will return or if the entire script has been rewritten. He joins the game with its next expansion, The Taken King, which comes to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on Sept. 15. The Taken King will include a one-use boost to bring players to the minimum level needed to begin its story.
The expansion also raises the game's level cap to 40 from 34. A prologue introducing The Taken King's story is below.

[h=2]Destiny's Crucible expanding with new modes in The Taken King[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie is changing up the Crucible in The Taken King with two new gametypes, reports Game Informer.
Lars Bakken, design lead on Destiny, told Game Informer that Bungie listened to feedback from players in coming up with one of the two new Crucible modes in The Taken King. Fans have long asked Bungie for an objective-based mode separate from the existing Control, and Bakken said that the studio "wanted to do something that felt more in line with what the Destiny world is like."

Bungie came up with Rift, which is a twist on traditional capture-the-flag modes: It rewards players with points even if they don't complete their objective. The problem with standard CTF, said Bakken, is that it is "very binary," since you get nothing even if you get all the way back to your base with the flag but die before you can score.

[h=5]Must Read[/h]
Hands-on with Destiny: The Taken King and Bungie's return to its Halo roots

Rift plays out like a "neutral bomb assault," according to Bakken. The objective is an item called the Spark, which sits in the middle of the map. The goal in rift is to pick up the Spark, then carry it to your opponent's goal. But the Spark has a timer on it, so you can't just hang on to it forever and camp out in your own base; you'll only have 75 seconds before it kills you. Rift is a six-on-six mode.
The Taken King's other new Crucible mode is a wild gametype called Mayhem. A developer at Bungie came up with the concept — "what if we just made it, like, so you had your super almost all the time?" — on a whim, unsure if it would actually work. The result is a mode that "feels more like a party game than anything else," said Bakken. Ammunition, grenades, melee attacks and supers all recharge very quickly — fast enough for a warlock to deploy six or seven Nova Bombs within a single round, according to Bakken.
"We're going to put it out there, we're going to see what people think," said Bakken of Mayhem.

In addition, it sounds like Bungie will bring back the Elimination playlist permanently, at least at the launch of The Taken King. Elimination is the tense three-on-three gametype in the Trials of Osiris mode, but it's inaccessible whenever Trials is offline — i.e., from Tuesday morning until Friday afternoon Eastern time.
For more on The Taken King's changes to Destiny's Crucible, check out Game Informer's full video interview with Bakken, as well as their analysis of the expansion's eight new maps. The Taken King will be released Sept. 15.

[h=2]Bungie's teaser for Destiny: The Taken King shows off Year Two's big improvements[/h]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2kDXbn9mC9Y

Destiny is getting a major overhaul with the release of its upcoming expansion, The Taken King, sweeping changes that Bungie is referring to as "Destiny Year Two." As the above teaser trailer shows, big changes are in store for Bungie's shared-world shooter, many of which appear to be substantial quality-of-life improvements for longtime players.
The teaser video, which was released to hype up tomorrow's Twitch livestream for The Taken King, shows off the new Light system and level cap; the abandonment of Crucible and Vanguard Marks in favor of Legendary Marks; and new Faction allegiances, alongside some of the rewards that appear to come with those allegiances.

Bungie also teases new blueprints for exotic gear, shader collections, an equippable artifact and more. There's a peek at The Taken King's campaign, which centers on Oryx, father of Crota, and a taste of some additional dialogue from Nathan Fillion as Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6.
Let's take a look at some of the notable changes shown in the teaser.

Bungie's doing away with Destiny's current Light-based leveling system for something less dependent on random equipment drops. Light in The Taking King will instead be "an average of the attack and defense values across all of your currently equipped gear," according to the trailer. A higher Light score will improve your Guardian's damage output and defense.

Destiny's factions will get a bit more useful in Year Two, as players can now pledge their allegiance to one of the game's factions per week. Supporting those factions will net Guardians some faction-themed gear; the teaser trailer shows Future War Cult-branded armor, weapons and ships.

Here we see Lord Shaxx accepting the new, streamlined Legendary Marks for Destiny: The Taken King gear. Looks like Shaxx will sell Ghost shells as part of his inventory.

A peek at the exotic weapons blueprint collection shows "Year 1" and "Year 2" exotics, including an interesting weapon popping up: that 4th Horseman exotic shotgun, a PlayStation timed-exclusive weapon that's been around since year one, shows up with a Taken King badge and gets filed under "Year 2."
Bungie plans to dive more deeply into Destiny: The Taken King and Year Two improvements during a livestream on Twitch this Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. PT. That presentation is the first of three planned Twitch streams Bungie will air in advance of The Taken King's launch on Sept. 15.

[h=2]Here's how Destiny: The Taken King's overhauled leveling and quests work[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie is revamping the game's much-maligned Light level system with the upcoming Taken King expansion, decoupling your level from the amount of Light on your gear. Bungie gave a detailed look at the revised system in a Twitch stream today.
As of The Taken King, you'll progress in Destiny simply by earning experience, just as you did for the first 20 levels. As Bungie's Tyson Green explained, "Anything that's earning you XP is going to bring your level up," so anyone can reach the new level cap of 40 just by playing Destiny. Light will now be an average of the attack and defense attributes for all your gear. That includes two new slots: Ghost Shell and class item.

[h=5]Must Read[/h]
Hands-on with Destiny: The Taken King and Bungie's return to its Halo roots

The inventory screen has been improved to provide more information about your gear. Instead of nebulous percentages for the Strength, Intellect and Discipline attributes, you'll be able to see the exact length of your abilities' cooldowns (and see them decrease as those attributes go up). And Bungie has expanded the vault space: You'll now have 72 slots each for weapons and armor. The number of general slots is staying at 36, but the new "collections" feature for emblems will reduce the number of general slots you'll be using.
Bungie is introducing a new item called a Spark of Light that will be waiting for all players at the Postmaster. It's a one-time-use object that allows players to instantly rank up a single character to level 25 and unlock The Taken King's campaign. Making it all the way to level 40 will unlock the ability to use endgame legendary gear.
The livestream also offered a look at the in-game interface's new Quests tab. It allows you to follow the progress of up to 32 quests. The Taken King will raise the number of bounty slots from 10 to 16, and you'll be able to select as many as four to track in the game; the progress of those bounties will be displayed when you bring up your Ghost in the game. Green noted that Bungie has tweaked bounties so they're "a bit quicker to do," and they're now designed so you can make progress on them during activities you'd already be doing.
More importantly, you'll be able to turn in completed bounties from the Quests page — you won't have to return to the Tower or the Reef anymore. Bungie visited Lord Shaxx during the stream to take a look at the new Crucible bounties, showing off five weekly bounties. Players who complete all five bounties within a single week will earn "nightfall-tier" rewards for doing so. And the Cryptarch will now sell legendary engrams.

Destiny: The Taken King launches Sept. 15.

[h=2]Destiny: The Taken King is changing how you'll get and upgrade new gear[/h]

Destiny's upcoming expansion, The Taken King, is going to completely reimagine every part of the loot hunting process — from acquisition, to upgrading to use on the battlefield. The broad changes were revealed in today's livestream event, which covered the updates coming to Bungie's online shooter when the DLC arrives Sept. 15.
First and foremost, your Vault space has been doubled. You have 72 slots for weapons and 72 slots for armor — other equipment will receive their own new forms of storage (more on that later).

Ghost Shells — a previously aesthetic customization option — will also play a larger role in your Guardian's build in The Taken King. Shells will come equipped with their own stat modifiers and perks; a few demonstrated during the stream allowed players to track planetary resources on their minimap, and some allow you to earn more Glimmer for killing certain enemies. Shells will factor into their Light Level average, as well. Players will be able to purchase Ghost Shells from The Speaker in the Tower, and can earn Legendary shells from the Crucible Vanguard.
First and foremost, your Vault space has been doubled.
Exotics will now be arranged in a new system called Exotic Blueprints, which will allow players to access any Exotic they've ever found. If you accidentally lose a piece of Exotic equipment — say, an accidental dismantling — you can retrieve it from a terminal in the Tower at the cost of some Glimmer and an Exotic Shard. Your Blueprints are shared across your account, meaning you can duplicate your Exotic weapons across multiple characters.
Exotics from Destiny's Year One will be upgraded when The Taken King launches, and players will be able to access the new versions if they have the old version in their Blueprint collection. These upgraded versions will also cost Legendary Marks — more on that later.. Light Beyond Nemesis, an Exotic Warlock helmet, was showcased during the stream; its upgraded version starts at max defense, grants earlier access to its best perks and adds totally new perks on top of them. Only "some" pieces of armor will be brought forward into Year Two.
The Suros Regime, an Exotic Auto Rifle, will be upgraded in Year Two with a new aesthetic look and new perks.

Exotics aren't the only thing you can upgrade in Year Two. All new Legendary weapons can be "Infused," allowing players to break down weapons to improve other weapons, meaning you can burn your older, outdated weapons to make your new gear more viable. This process will also consume a few different materials, like Weapon Parts and Legendary Marks.
Class slot armor, like Warlock Bonds, will also carry defense and stat bonuses, and perks mostly designed to increase experience and reputation acquisition, and will also factor into your Light Level.
Players will no longer need dedicated class slot armor to pledge allegiance to Destiny's different factions. Players will now purchase a "Faction Badge," which then allocates reputation gains toward the badge's respective group without taking up an inventory space. Badges last a week, though — you can't switch your allegiance during that period. Players will be able to swap different types of resources, like Weapon Parts and Motes of Light, for reputation gains at each vendor. Faction packages will now include a guaranteed Legendary item, as well.

Faction armor carries some new perks, like Solar Recovery and Solar Armor, which increases your Recovery or Armor after taking Solar-type damage. Another perk reduces Solar damage when the Solar Burn modifier is active, making Guardians much more survivable in Nightfall missions with that particular modifier.
Your Crucible and Vanguard Marks will be folded into a single currency, Legendary Marks, which will be shared across all three characters on your account. When you dismantle Legendary items, you'll also receive those new marks. Your current marks will be exchanged when The Taken King launches for Commendations, which you'll be able to cash in for faction reputation.
Legendary Marks can be spent on Legendary Engrams at the Cryptarch, which will no longer be redeemed for shards and sub-Legendary equipment.

The Gunsmith will begin offering reputation gains as well, which will allow players to purchase Armsday Orders, which will let them purchase Legendary weapons to be delivered every Wednesday — a new weekly event in Destiny called Armsday. The stock of orderable weapons will be updated every week. To earn Gunsmith reputation, players can use Field Test weapons, special armaments that the Gunsmith will loan out to players who visit him.
Also, items like Emblems, Ships and Shaders will be removed from your inventory and shown in "Collections," which you'll be able to access from the Tower. Each Collection will show you all of the aesthetic options you've collected, and also lists the items you don't have, providing information on how to collect them.
You'll be able to show off all your gear in new ways in Destiny's social hubs, as well. Players will be able to equip their helmets for other players to see in the Tower, and change the weapon that their character is carrying around.
Year One pieces of equipment will have attack and defense values of 160 when The Taken King launches, a reduction from the current max, although players won't experience any loss of damage with their old equipment. New gear will increase those numbers significantly.
Destiny: The Taken King will launch Sept. 15 across all versions of the game. For more on the expansion, check out our Storystream.

[h=2]Destiny is about to get much better, even if you don't buy The Taken King[/h]

Many big changes are coming to Destiny next month, including a complete revamp of the leveling and loot system. The Light system has been reworked, and you'll be able to gain experience and levels no matter what you do in the world. Things will make much more sense to players and leveling won't be reliant on item drops.
You can read more about the changes in the systems that are coming with The Taken King, but the game will get much better for everyone, regardless of what else they've purchased.

"Basically all the systems like leveling and loot will be updated with the 2.0 update when The Taken King launches," Polygon was told when we asked Activision what systems would be coming to Destiny. "Every player (even those with just vanilla Destiny and no expansions) will benefit from those changes. They just don't get access to missions, quests, strikes and expansion-specific loot, etc."
That leveling system that makes it easier to get ahead without worrying about loot drops? You'll get that. The expanded number of bounties? Yep, you'll get that. Nolan North instead of Peter Dinklage as Ghost? That too.
All the content in the game has been re-worked and "questified" to fit in with how The Taken King works.
So if you're like me — a player who has lapsed because the system for advancement made it tricky to make any progress by playing an evening or two a week — you can take your copy of the core Destiny experience and get back to work, taking advantage of the all the changes and updates to the game's core systems that come with The Taken King, even if you don't buy anything new.

[h=2]Destiny players, here's a glimpse of your VIP rewards in The Taken King[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie announced earlier this year that it was preparing an exclusive package of in-game rewards in The Taken King for the game's most loyal players. The company showed off those unique items in a new trailer today, including a striking shader that paints your armor with animal stripes.
The Founder's Fortune Pack includes the following four items: the Brave Ghost Shell, the Be Brave emblem, the Old Guard shader and a new vehicle, the S-34 Ravensteel Sparrow. In line with the way that Bungie is "questifying" everything in Destiny for The Taken King, Guardians will have to visit old friends in the tower such as Commander Zavala, Eva Lavante and the Speaker in order to claim their VIP rewards.

How does one qualify as a Destiny VIP? Here's what you have to do to be eligible to receive the Founder's Fortune Pack:

  • No later than Aug. 31, 2015, you must
  • reach Light level 30 with at least one Guardian OR own both The Dark Below and House of WolvesAND no later than Feb. 1, 2016, you must
  • buy and play The Taken King
Destiny: The Taken King launches Sept. 15. For more, check out the details of how leveling and quests, as well as weapons, armor and other gear, are changing in the expansion.

[h=2]Destiny developer Bungie looking for a 'PC Compatibility Tester'[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie is currently hiring for a "PC Compatibility Tester," according to a job listing on its website.
"The PC Compatibility Tester will evaluate PC hardware-specific features and ensure various systems work together across multiple PC configurations to provide a great experience," the post reads. A required skill is that the applicant be "experienced and comfortable with building PCs from scratch."

As far as we know, Bungie is only working on one game: Destiny, with plans for a 10-year life cycle alongside publisher Activision. Neither company has ever confirmed active development of a Windows PC version of Destiny.

[h=5]Must Read[/h]
Destiny is likely coming to PC, but don't hold your breath for an announcement

Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, told Polygon during E3 2014 — three months before Destiny launched — that a PC version of the game was "something we're talking about and looking at very carefully." Earlier that year, Bungie writer Eric Osborne said, "We have a lot of people who play on PCs. We have a lot of appetite to build that experience."
Some of Bungie's other active job listings mention PC, though only in passing; none are as PC-focused as the compatibility tester position. But that job posting also describes a compatibility tester at Bungie as being "grouped into teams, responsible for ensuring that an area of the game is ready to ship." Unless Bungie has been secretly working on a PC version of Destiny, this could mean that the role is for something besides Destiny.
Bungie has a long history of making computer games, going back to the 1990s series Marathon and Myth on Mac and PC. But the company has not released a game on PC since Halo 2, the PC port of which was released in 2007, two and a half years after the game debuted on the original Xbox.

We've reached out to Activision and Bungie for comment, and will update this article with any information we receive. Bungie is currently working on Destiny's third expansion, The Taken King, which launches Sept. 15.

The new Destiny exotics you'll be waiting on from Xur in The Taken King

Bungie is using Instagram to show off some of the new exotic gear that will be available for players in the upcoming Destiny expansion, The Taken King. Each of these pieces include new unique perks that didn't exist on any year-one Destiny gear. The Empyrean Bellicose, for example, appears to grant the Warlock's Angel of Light ability to Titans. A common theme also appears to be making Orbs of Light, previously only useful for regenerating player's super abilities, more useful for players whose supers are fully charged.
If this tease is any indication, we can expect to learn more about the game's exotics in tomorrow's livestream, which will also show off the new voice of Ghost, as well as a new location, the Dreadnaught. Bungie's livestream will kick off at 11 a.m. PT tomorrow, Aug. 26, on the studio's Twitch channel. Check out Bungie's full livestream schedule for more information, and see our Taken King StoryStream for everything you need to know about the expansion.

[h=2]Explore Destiny: The Taken King's three new subclasses and their skill trees[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie showed off the three new subclasses coming in The Taken King during the studio's second livestream for the expansion, offering a look at all the abilities that players will be able to configure for their Guardians.
As announced earlier this year, Bungie is introducing one new subclass for each of Destiny's three classes: the Sunbreaker (Titan), Stormcaller (Warlock) and Nightstalker (Hunter). Today's livestream consists of a playthrough of Shield Brothers, a strike that's set on Oryx's Dreadnaught ship. The three players went through the skill trees for their respective subclasses, and you can see that in the video above.

[h=2]Destiny: The Taken King's strikes will be more interesting and rewarding, Bungie says[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie spent almost all of today's livestream for The Taken King on a playthrough of Shield Brothers, one of the expansion's new strikes, and the studio discussed its revised design philosophy for strikes as well.
James Tsai, design lead for strikes, appeared on the livestream with Bungie community manager David "DeeJ" Dague to provide commentary on the Shield Brothers playthrough. The strike takes place in the heart of the Dreadnaught, the Hive ship that will be a new destination in Destiny, and focuses on a Cabal invasion of the giant spacecraft. The Guardians' ultimate objective is to take out two Cabal commanders, Valus Mau'ual and Valus Tlu'urn.

[h=5]Must Read[/h]
Destiny: The Taken King expansion: Everything you need to know

Shield Brothers includes some encounters that won't be the same every time, a common complaint from Destiny players about the game's existing strikes. "We wanted to make that experience less static," said Tsai, noting that players repeat strikes over and over again. "All the strikes now have several combat setups" that can have different enemies, different dialogue and alternate enemy spawn locations.
Tsai said Bungie also wanted to "bring more personality" to the bosses of Destiny's strikes, and make the battles with those enemies more interesting than finding a hiding spot and popping out every now and then to take potshots.
"They're not just going to be, like, big versions of dudes that you've already shot a thousand times in that strike," said Tsai. "We don't want them to just be a poopy bag of hit points."
Tsai added that strikes will offer unique rewards in the form of exclusive gear. Those items can only be acquired by completing a particular strike, and Bungie intends for that gear to serve as a signal to other players that you've defeated the boss in question.

[h=2]The Taken King's raid won't be available on launch day, Bungie says[/h]

The King's Fall raid in Destiny's next expansion, The Taken King, will not be in the game when it launches in two weeks, Bungie told IGN at PAX Prime this weekend.
Luke Smith, the expansion's director, said the studio has a plan for when it will launch, which will be announced later. "People who are excited about the raid will know when it's time to take time off work," Smith said,.

Bungie has been discussing features of the large expansion over a live stream series which wraps up on Wednesday at 2 p.m. In the last stream, the studio gave an in-depth look at the three new subclasses The Taken King will offer, including the skill trees for each.
The designer responsible for the expansion's strikes also promised to "bring more personality" to strike bosses and reward players with exclusive gear for completing them.
The Taken King concludes the first year of Destiny, and will introduce Nolan North as the new voice of the player's Ghost companion. The expansion launches on Sept 15 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

[h=2]Why Destiny is on your PlayStation 4, even if you didn't buy it[/h]

[h=3]Destiny is the U2 of PlayStation[/h]

Some PlayStation 4 owners were surprised to turn on their consoles today and find Destiny: The Taken King sitting alongside their other games on the system's dashboard, even if they hadn't purchased the game. But that's a feature, not a bug — and there's a way to prevent that from happening in the future.
Destiny: The Taken King is being pushed to PS4 owners this week through the system's automatic download settings. An icon for the game will show up on the system's home screen, which prompts players to purchase and download the game from the PlayStation Store.

The promotion is part of the PS4's "personalized, curated content," as described on PlayStation's official website.
The PS4 system has the ability to learn about your preferences. It will learn your likes and dislikes, allowing you to discover content pre-loaded and ready to go on your console in your favorite game genres or by your favorite creators.
By default, as of PS4 system software version 1.75, which was released in 2014, the console will "automatically add download links for featured content to the home screen," unless owners opt out of the feature. While Destiny: The Taken King is a big improvement on Bungie's earlier efforts, PS4 owners will probably want to turn this feature off. Here's how to do that:
From the PS4 home screen, go to Settings > scroll down to System > select Automatic Downloads > uncheck Featured Content

[h=2]Destiny's shotguns are getting nerfed in a drastic way[/h]

Destiny's upcoming 2.0.1 update will further reduce the effectiveness in the Crucible of some of the game's most desirable shotguns, developer Bungie announced today.
When Bungie updated Destiny to version 2.0 a month ago, prior to launching Destiny: The Taken King, the studio made a massive amount of weapon balance changes that included attempts to make shotguns weaker at long range. Bungie primarily tackled this issue by nerfing two shotgun perks, Rangefinder (aiming increases range) and Shot Package (aiming reduces the spread of weapon projectiles). As you can imagine, a shotgun with both of those perks would be very deadly, indeed.

Destiny players have since provided "unanimous" feedback saying that those changes didn't go far enough, according to Jon Weisnewski, senior designer at Bungie.
"The prevalence of Shot Package on almost every long-range Shotgun has effectively redefined the close-quarters combat experience," Weisnewski continued. "Going forward, we'll continue to dial in Shotgun range."
Bungie is essentially admitting that the Shot Package perk is so powerful that it's broken, and in update 2.0.1, the studio will be taking an extreme step: removing the perk from every shotgun in Destiny. Depending on the weapon, Shot Package will be replaced with Close and/or Personal, Crowd Control, or Knee Pads. Weisnewski noted that in Bungie's playtesting so far, this change hasn't caused any problems in Destiny's player-versus-environment component.
This isn't a permanent change; Weisnewski referred to the decision as putting Shot Package on a "time-out." The studio plans to "recalibrate the effective range and research a way to hopefully reintroduce the perk after some time at the work bench."

Bungie has yet to provide a timetable for the release of update 2.0.1. For more on Destiny: The Taken King, read our review.

[h=2]Destiny's major 2.0.1 update is now live, and here's everything it does[/h]

Destiny developer Bungie just patched the game to version 2.0.1, and the studio published the full patch notes on its website, listing details on microtransactions, the Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris, the fabled Black Spindle and more.
Tess Everis returns to the Tower with update 2.0.1, and she'll be selling emotes for real money as a vendor for the Eververse Trading Company. This represents the debut of microtransactions in Destiny, with players now able to buy a new in-game currency called Silver from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Games Store.

Bungie added another new feature to Destiny with the 2.0.1 patch: For the first time, players will be able to re-roll exotic armor for different perks and stat boosts. Exotic armor pieces now have a "Twist Fate" node that requires Glimmer, armor materials and a new item called a Glass Needle. Xur will sell that special curio every weekend.
Update 2.0.1 also fixes a host of issues, at least one of which players were actually happy about. The Black Spindle exotic sniper rifle, which debuted last month exclusively in a Daily Heroic story mission, was dropping at 310 attack. That was unintended, and today's patch will drop all existing and future Black Spindles down to 290. The update also introduces a drastic nerf to shotguns: the wholesale removal of the Shot Package perk, which has been replaced with perks that don't boost range.
Bungie made some tweaks to Destiny's reward economy with update 2.0.1 as well. The first chest in the King's Fall raid will now offer additional materials and a higher potential number of Moldering Shards. Players will get more Motes of Light from completing public events and earning experience, but they'll receive fewer Motes from bounties, faction rep packages and dismantling items. Both rep packages and bounties will award fewer Strange Coins, too.
The Iron Banner is now live, while Trials of Osiris will return this weekend, Oct. 16-18. It'll be the first time players are experiencing those on-again, off-again Crucible events since the launch of Destiny: The Taken King. The new Iron Banner brings with it an updated power curve, which Bungie detailed in a separate blog post.

The new curve falls off linearly from the start until a level delta (difference) of five. So if you're 50 Light below the person you're shooting, you'll only do 90 percent of your usual damage to them. That may sound like a more generous curve than ever, but The Taken King's curve provides for a more aggressive damage reduction than any previous setup — at least "for the first 3 levels or so," according to Derek Carroll, senior designer at Bungie.

"This means that, assuming everyone in your match is close to max-level (or "your level"), minor differences in power will matter more than ever," Carroll explained. "We're assuming that matchmaking will do its thing and keep skills close, so your gear will give you the edge (or hold you back) when playing in power-enabled playlists."
The new Iron Banner curve bends slightly at a delta of five, so that by a difference of 100 Light, the lower-level player will suffer a damage reduction of about 22.5 percent. The biggest drop-off comes at a delta of 15 (about 150 Light), where the weaker player will only be doing 65 percent of their typical damage.
"There's just a lot more room between full-power and full-sadness, given that there's a lot more room between a new character and an endgame player in The Taken King," said Carroll.
Bungie's redesign of Iron Banner also extends to its rewards. All the weapons and armor pieces will be available to purchase from Lord Saladin in the Tower as usual, but players should see those items more regularly as end-of-match drops. If you do want to buy gear, you'll need Legendary Marks instead of Glimmer. And the "Tempered" buff, which increases reputation gains over the course of the week, is automatically applied to your character now.
Trials of Osiris is changing, too. Although teams that go 9-0 will continue to visit the exclusive Lighthouse area on Mercury, Bungie is tweaking matchmaking to make that run "more competitive." Winning teams will get rewards directly on the end-of-match screen. And Brother Vance in the Reef will now sell Trials gear, including some items found in The Lighthouse.
