[h=2]Destiny's first expansion means exclusive content for PlayStation[/h]

Destiny is offering content exclusive to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 — including an extra strike mission — when its first expansion, The Dark Below, launches next week, PlayStation announced this morning.
The exclusive content comprises The Undying Mind, an exclusive strike set on Mars and "The 4th Horseman," an exotic shotgun with "Four barrels, five shots, and a sizzlingly fast fire rate."

Xbox One and Xbox 360 get the rest of the content, which means only one extra strike mission for them. The rest of the expansion includes:

  • [*]New story missions that pit you against a Hive god.
[*]New weapons, armor, and gear to further customize your Guardian.
[*]The ability to increase your Light level to 32, and five additional bounty slots.
[*]Three new competitive multiplayer maps: Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron.
[*]New cooperative Strike: The Will of Crota. Purge a twisted horror from the Cosmodrome.
[*]An additional resident of the Tower: Eris, a resolute survivor of an ill-fated mission.
[*]And a new six-player Raid: Crota's End. Face him in the deepest dark.
The expansion's opening cinematic leaked a couple of weeks ago, which you may watch below. Beneath that is the official preview Bungie released last week.

Destiny: The Dark Below comes out Dec. 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Ok so finally tired out the Sword of Crota public event, it was literally insane!

I was doing patrol missions and got the defend the Warsat public event. In the midst of the chaos I saw Hive enemies spawning, initially I didn't realize what was happening till I saw a Knight named Blade of Crota thats when I focused all my fire on him and got the sword. And that was a moment of true joy for me as I unleashed my 'jack the ripper' demon on the poor Fallen and Hive.

It was amazing to use the sword but sadly it lasted for a mere 20 or so seconds. Also did anyone else notice the increase in the public events frequency I was able to get 3 events in about 15mins in just same areas.

I got the chance to do the Blade of Crota event 4/5 times last night. The Sword stays active close to a minute and it's a hecka fun to use. Bungie needs to add such inventive hidden events on patrol more often now. This is another step in the right direction.

[h=2]Destiny's first expansion looks to bring major changes to loot drops, gear, raids and more[/h]

Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below, sounds like it may end up being more notable for the major changes it makes to the game's systems rather than the new content it contains, according to a preview from Game Informer.

With Destiny's most recent patch, which was released this week, developer Bungie overhauled the way that exotic weapons and armor are upgraded. Game Informer reports that The Dark Below will introduce better versions of all exotic items in order to "keep them in line with the new top-tier gear."

Players will be able to turn in an existing exotic armor piece or weapon, along with an Exotic Shard, to the merchant Xur. He'll reward them with an upgraded version of that item, which has a higher attack or defense cap than the original one. Xur only appears in the Tower for 48 hours every weekend, and his array of exotic upgrades will change from week to week. The upgraded items will be available to all Destiny players, regardless of whether they buy The Dark Below, although there will be new exotics (and other gear) offered exclusively within the expansion.

[h=5]Must Read[/h]
Destiny's endgame is one of the best multiplayer shooters of the year

Game Informer also says that The Dark Below will bring some challenging, interesting new gameplay elements into standard story missions — the kinds of mechanics that are currently found only in Destiny's sole raid, the Vault of Glass. The Dark Below will also offer tougher versions of missions in general, with the ability to try heroic and nightfall strikes at level 30 instead of 28.

Speaking of the raid, The Dark Below will introduce a second one to Destiny, Crota's End (screenshot above). And according to Game Informer, the developers at Bungie are well aware of players' frustrations with the Vault of Glass — in particular, with how stingy the raid can be when it comes to loot drops, even for those who have run through it numerous times. So post-expansion Destiny will "pay closer attention" to the loot players have previously received in a raid, although there's "still a significant component of randomness," says Game Informer.

The Dark Below will also put raid gear in a class of its own. After the launch of the expansion, players will only be able to upgrade raid weapons and armor with new Radiant Energy and Radiant Shards, respectively. Radiant materials will be limited to raid drops, but players will also be able to dismantle unwanted raid gear to get them. Bungie is changing the costs associated with legendary items, too: In addition to Vanguard or Crucible marks, buying expansion-tier legendary gear requires new ranks called commendations, which are earned for reaching every successive Vanguard and Crucible reputation level.

When Bungie announced the content in The Dark Below, many Destiny players complained that the package seemed pretty thin for the price. That may still be true, but at the very least, the studio isn't shying away from the existing game's problems — or from attempting to fix them. For much more on the expansion, check out Game Informer's full write-up.

The Dark Below launches Dec. 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, with a sizable chunk of timed-exclusive content for PlayStation platforms.

What about the exotic shard I just wasted to level my Gjalla? I think Im quite done with this, just dont see the point in grinding to upgrade my exotics again since they'll be redundant in february. Phew! Dodged a bullet by not paying for the dlc.

^ The mechanic is being applied to the full game, not just the DLC. Also, on Dec 9th, free new Legendary armor and weapons will be added to the vanguard and crucible vendors with increased damage/attack ratings.

Speaking of DLC, the following are the bullet points from GameInformer's latest exclusive preview. The part about new story missions is of particular interest!

Gear

  • Old exotics can be upgraded to the higher defense/attack rating, this can be done through Xur at the cost of an Exotic Shard, Glimmer (7000 as of preview), and the original version of the weapon . This will reset upgrade progress
  • Multiple Exotics can be upgraded each week
  • Xur will have a limited selection of exotics available for upgrade 6 Weapons, and 2 armor pieces per class
  • Upgrading Exotics doesn't require ownership of The Dark Below
  • Crota's End gear can not longer be upgraded with ascendant materials, it only can be upgraded with radiant shards and energy. Radiant materials can be earned from dismantling Crota's End gear and as a Crota's End drop
  • Eris will offer an exchange of radiant shards for radiant energy and vice-versa
  • Crota's End will be more aware of your recent earnings and how long it's been since your last "Fun Drop" This doesn't eliminate randomness, just is said to make the experience more rewarding
  • New raid primary weapons will only be available through the launch of hard mode for Crota's End raid in January
  • New raid gear will contain a wider variety of perks
  • Legendary factions items now require a commendation for purchase, commendations are awarded within reputation packages
  • Purchasing newer legendary items doesn't Require Ownership of The Dark Below
  • New legendaries will still require ascendant materials
  • New Legendaries will have higher attack and defense values, but will not be as powerful as exotic and Raid gear

Activities

  • Players at Light level 30 can lead a Fireteam (into Crota's End) immediately upon release
  • Quests will connect to strikes and even the raid
  • Crota's End hard mode launching in January
  • Quests will have significant rewards such as weapons
  • With the Light level increase to 32, Heroics and Nightfalls will be increased by 2 Light levels to keep up with new content, level increases, and gear items
  • In addition, the story missions and strikes introduce gameplay mechanics that become important later. For instance, one story mission applies a condition called “A Dark Burden,” which eliminates my guardian’s ability to use their vertical movement mode during a challenging fight – this same mechanic shows up later in a much more dangerous situation.
  • Another story mission battle puts damaging energy circles down on the ground, forcing players to navigate carefully.

Crucible

  • Expansion I will include two new exclusive competitive playlists
  • New Crucible arenas (Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron) will be featured in map rotation
  • Playlists available in the Director will change week over week
  • Experiences will alternate between 12 and 6 player engagements
  • Map rotation will alternate between focusing solely on new expansion arenas and including original launch maps in the mix

It has been confirmed that only the Exotic gear/weapons perks will be reset and not the 300 damage. The re-rolled exotics will start from 300dmg/30light. So yeah it good to hear that your previously maxed out exotic won't go back to its original base stat of 260dmg/18 light. I couldn't find the tweet where I read about this... But I did read it today.

But even with the dmg staying at 300 I am not sure if the perks would be rerolled as well, I mean The Last Word without the perfect balance(Stability) perk would make the weapon a bit less desirable, same goes for the tracking and wolf pack shots of Gjallarhorn.

The reaction from community for the exotic rerolls might make Bungie turn a few knobs in our favor but lets see just a few more days to go...

I won't jump the gun here, I am hoping bungie will deliver there is too much speculation going on right now. And about the Raid Hard Mode opening up in Jan, I think its fine it took us a good few weeks before we were able to do the VoG on normal with ease... so by the time Hard Mode unlocks we'll probably be just about ready for it. Not much complains from my side on that part.

I think this is one of the few confusions as to why people are up in arms about this. I was under the same assumption until I was corrected by reddit. Thank God our damage won't be going down.

However certain exotics only shine when their behavioral traits are unlocked. And that will be a Abuses will lead to ban to achieve. Considering you need to pour 30,000XP into each upgrade node. You're looking at a lengthy stretch ahead of you for a single weapon/armor.

Rejoice! The weekly update is live and clears all the speculations and misinformation about the next update. The "upgraded" exotics will start from 302dmg (hell yeah! Ice Breakers gonna melt Atheon :p) but you would still need to work you way towards unlocking the perks but as written by them it will take much less time to unlock it. We'll see how this turns out.

The Raid looks way way more chaotic, dem wizards ...unloading hell from their hands...or claws or whatever they are.

Plus new Iron Banner event announced for 16th December, light 31 gear!

Lots of new stuff, just within three months. This is gonna be one hell of a ride!

Whats gonna happen with VoG? Will it become the next slaughter house? Like the Tiger Strikes ... Once you have the Vex Mythoclast there wouldn't be much to do there other than gaining exp points. I'd like to see what Bungie's gonna do with the VoG, I don't think they are gonna leave it to die a silent death.

INFO ALERT!

Do not decrypt your legendary engrams or turn in your exotic bounties before December 9th!

Keep them safe and only turn in after December 9th to be rewarded with an item of upgraded attack/defense rating. This has been confirmed by Deej on twitter.

^XUR is the dark disciple of RNGeus himself.... what can you expect? Yes XURs inventory rolls out like the rest of loot in the game...

On a separate note, want a good read?

As Atheon emerges from his lair, my noble team synthesizes their last of their heavy ammo and wait for the verdict.

I find myself trapped in his bubble of doom. I calmly shoot myself out of its grasps and rendezvous with my amigos at the Left sync plate to assist in the return of my exiled comrades. After the extermination of the Oracles, my buddies emerge from the portal bearing the Relic and Gjallarhorns. Our combined efforts bring the behemoth to half health.

Confident in our firepower, we go through another turn, leaving Atheon with a sliver of life force remaining as he sends me and two others into the future. I grab the Aegis and lock on to the minotaur. After a few lunges, the minotaur lays the hammer on my soul. My healthbar red, my vision growing darker by the second.

My girlfriend gets downed, leaving us behind on Oracles. Like clockwork, our friends on the outside drop like dominoes as we succumb to the Prophecy of Doom.
I now find myself alone in the future, but I hear my friend urge me to return, for it's too late.

Through muscle memory and a faint crack of the light on my screen, I run passed the Oracles and jump through the portal. With time running out and the numbers growing against us, I seize hold of the seconds I had to blindly slam into Atheon's calves in a desperate attempt to save us all.

My friends are going ballistic. I cleanse myself to see the Giant disintegrate into ashes before my very eyes.

I was the only one left.

I got a ship.

Spoiler: show
I laughed at it more than I should have, having experienced the same I can relate to the pain. I ran the Hard Mode raid with a few lfg guys, we started from the Templar checkpoint and till the end I get nothing except shards and energies. Taking into account that I can't get anything from the Normal Mode as I did the Hard Mode directly..I was so damn annoyed that I was inches close to starting a new character but then I played a mission for the bounty and had to watch a cutscene and that knocked me back to my senses and reminded me of the torture which I would have to endure if I had done the mistake of starting another character.

[h=2]Bungie explains how Destiny's expansion won't make your current weapons obsolete[/h]

News of Destiny's next major update — The Dark Below — sparked a bit of excitement and a lot of confusion, some of it angry confusion. So Bungie took to its website to try and clear things up about the three-month anniversary release of The Dark Below.

Most importantly, Bungie promises the expansion won't make your beloved weapons obsolete.

At a very high level, The Dark Below will tweak upgrade paths, bring new economies, escalate Light levels and deliver a continuation of the Crucible's evolution.

Before diving into the nitty gritty, community manager DeeJ popped off a few answers for commonly misunderstood facts:

"I can only upgrade one existing Exotic a week?"

No, Xûr will have many of them in stock.

"Is Xûr the only way to obtain new Exotics?"
No. They'll drop as part of new loot tables.

"So I have to buy new content to keep up?"
No. All players will have options to progress.

"Is the upgrade automatic?"
No. You'll choose where you invest the effort.

"Does this make all my gear worthless?"
No! I'll be holding onto my Dead Orbit Heavy.

[h=3]Weapons[/h]The changes to the game's economy, DeeJ writes, won't make your current weapons less effective, but it will mean that a slew of more powerful weapons are inbound.

Specifically, The Dark Below will contain exclusive options to level up and more powerful exotics, legendaries and raid gear will drop (or in some cases be sold by vendors or Xur). And exotic upgrade paths will require much less time and material. Perhaps most importantly, an upgraded exotic is more powerful right out of the box.

The idea for these changes was driven by the desire to create more avenues for players to become more powerful, DeeJ writes.

"The last thing we wanted was for you to look at your favorite gun or helmet and decide that it had become obsolete," DeeJ writes. "Since the reveal, we've read a lot of ideas for how this could have been done better. Your feedback is clear: The time you have invested in your stuff should be respected."

The existing plan is to make sure those players who don't invest in The Dark Below expansion aren't left behind, DeeJ writes, and the conversation continues internally.

[h=3]Tweaks[/h]Along with new stuff being introduced with the next update, there are also plenty of tweaks and fixes. Here's a breakdown of the known issues Bungie is working on for the update:

Pocket Infinity

  • Charges too quickly after the first shot
  • Fix in progress, to be released in a future update
Daily Event Reward Packages

  • No longer delivered by the Postmaster after a Public Event
  • Will be fixed automatically in The Dark Below update
  • All players will receive the fix when Expansion I goes live

[h=3]Crucible[/h]As well as walking players through the changes coming to Destiny with The Dark Below, DeeJ handed the post over to design lead Lars Bakken to talk about what to expect with the Crucible as the year wraps up.

Public playlists will include limited-time Salvage and Combined Arms playlists. And Bastion and First Light have moved out of Control and Clash to Combined Arms.

Premium Playlists will require The Dark Below to enter once it hits on Dec. 9. New playlists will let you play new content right away. Each week, there will be two new Premium Playlists starting off with Clash and Rumble with new maps. The playlists will also include new experimental modes.

Lord Saladin will return to the Tower on Dec. 16, resetting event standings in Iron Banner. Level 31 inventory will be earned by winners of the Iron Banner and The Dark Below will not be required to compete.

[h=3]Crota's End-Game[/h]To participate in the new raid coming to the game you're going to need The Dark Below, a fireteam set up and a level 30 guardian to lead the team.
The raid begins on Dec. 9 at 1 a.m. PT. You will not need to complete The Dark Below's other content to start the raid.

[h=3]Fixes[/h]Finally, DeeJ walks us through the current bugs being squished in the game.

The team, DeeJ writes, is working to fix the wasp errors that lead to connectivity problems. They're also looking into reports of issues surrounding the ability to gain weekly rewards. Finally, the team recently added a fix that decreased the bee, fly and lion errors by 70 percent and has another update in the works to wrap up those issues.

Interestingly, the game and some of the team will be in Vegas this week for a "coming-out party planned for Crota, and some special guests are invited."

Would have been awesome if you were on the PS side, we have a clan of local guys about 15 or so with multiple guardians. I would be fun to navigate around the raid.

Lets see if we can reach, Crota's lair and ....push him off :p

[h=2]Destiny PS4 players reportedly locked out due to pending DLC[/h]

Some Destiny players are finding themselves locked out of their game after purchasing downloadable content The Dark Below — which is set to go live tomorrow, Dec. 9 — according to complaints on Reddit.

According to several players, the entire game is blocked off post-purchase on PlayStation 4 by a countdown timer ticking off to the DLC's release. User RamiBlack uploaded the following image of the timer.

Other users suggest that the problem may only be present for those with digital copies of the game. Some users have been able to correct this problem by uninstalling Destiny, downloading and reinstalling the game.

We've reached out to Bungie and Sony will update accordingly.

PlayStation 3 and PS4 Destiny players are expected to receive exclusive, extra content with The Dark Below, including an extra strike mission. For a look at The Dark Below — the first of two announced expansions — check out its official preview and opening cinematic. Read our review here.
