There is no denying that demon and dark souls 1 were better, maybe because of how world was designed or maybe by the time dark souls 2 arrived the gameplay became too generic and predictable. The X factor got lost.

What I was telling CT that if he is looking for drastic gameplay changes that turns bloodbourne into completely different game is still not noticeable from gameplay trailers.
Good gameplay never becomes generic or predictable. Fighting games essentially have not evolved from their core gameplay since their time of inception, yet they are still played by millions. The only difference between each fighter is how they implement their mechanics. And this is factor in game design that I think is taken for granted. It's something that can break a game, like Dark Souls II.

The changes to Bloodborne might not be enough to break it off from the Souls games but how those changes are implemented will. They might just make Bloodborne the game of the year, or the biggest disappointment of the year. They might even let players like CT, who never got into Souls games, into the game.

This is where I have difference of opinion. What exactly is new in trailers, which will convince somebody to jump in while avoiding all soul games?

Even the boss that is shown in the trailers looks like standard dodge, hit, retreat repeat like most of early bosses in all souls games.

Maybe new graphical enhancememts might convince him to keep playing , otherwise gameplay dosent seem dramatically changed.

That's a good article. The comments on the article also talk about some great points towards the topic. I've played Demon's Souls a lot but I still manage to find interesting facts about the game even after all these years. One of the biggest mind blows I've head about the game was when I saw someone mention that the giant slab of rock floating above the Old One in a piece of concept art was actually the Nexus. It blew my mind how I didn't notice it before even with all the things pointing to it (you fall down a hole in the Nexus to reach the Old One).

The guns and the regen system are the most prominent changes. Miyazaki said himself that he wanted players to always be on the brink of defeat for the fights. The regen system is tool for that effect. If you get hit, you can hit back and get back some of your health. This form of risk vs. reward gameplay forces players to speed up their combat pace. This is actually a pretty significant change, especially if the rumors of using ordinary healing items corrupt your blood and ruin your character in the long run. That would make the regen system the primary source of getting health back. Also, there are enemies that can regen health from you just the same way. So that adds another layer to the combat.

These changes won't get someone like CT to accept the Souls formula outright, but they just might ease them into it.

Release date moved to March 2015

Hi everyone. As many of you know, earlier this year we announced that our forthcoming PS4 game, Bloodborne, would launch in February 2015. Unfortunately, I’m here today to announce a short delay to the release date, as we need a few more weeks to deliver you the best possible final experience.

We were really grateful for all the player data and feedback we received from those who took part in our recent limited alpha test, and this extra development time will allow us to better integrate these learnings into the game.

Bloodborne is now set to launch in the PAL region exclusively on PlayStation 4 on 25th March, 2015 (and 28th March in UK and Ireland).

In the meantime, look out for some exciting Bloodborne news in early December. Thank you very much for your continued support and patience!

[h=2]Bloodborne shows yet more gothic horror, teases procedurally generated levels[/h]

Here's a selection of new images from Bloodborne, the much fancied action-adventure developed by From Software, best known for the Dark Souls series of games.

The images were posted earlier today on Sony's PlayStation blog and show more details of the Hemwick graveyard environment and the deliciously gothic Cainhurst castle. Also on view are characters and weapons, which feature heavily in the game's world of monsters and dark enemies.
From Software also teased a procedurally generated area of dungeons. "Deep under the city of Yharnam lies an expansive network of multi-leveled ruins, seemingly much older than Yharnam itself and crafted by something other than human hands," stated the blog post, "What's more, these ruins appear differently to each hunter brave enough to enter. We're all very excited to talk more about what that means in just a few weeks."

Bloodborne is due to be released on PlayStation 4 in March next year.

Jesus, my resolve is garbage. I told my self I'd stay in the dark on Bloodborne from now on but I didn't even hesitate to read the update. Sigh...

Anyway, here are the screens.

Odd trailer. It just looks like some gameplay clips spliced together, probably made in the last second. PlayStation Experience will probably cover more.

That blood gush.

Man, this boss is aggressive and fast. And it gets bigger and wilder with every other hunter that it kills.

Weeeeeeeee!

[h=2]Bloodborne's procedurally generated multiplayer 'Chalice Dungeon' debuts at the PlayStation Experience[/h]

Bloodborne's Chalice Dungeon, a "multilayered underground room," appeared for then first time at the PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas today.

The procedurally generated area shifts depending on the player. It includes three layers with a focus on variety, tricks and traps, according to the developers at From Software who demoed the dungeon. In the demo, a player ran through the level, assisted by others, unlocking access to new others and a boss fight with an ancient guard dog wreathed in flame.

The idea, the developer said, is to keep it an "ever changing" dungeon and give players the opportunity to share the dungeons with their friends — though how that will happen wasn't explained.

For more on the game, you can watch a trailer that debuted at The Game Awards last night.

[h=2]Bloodborne director expands on the game's Chalice Dungeon, character customization[/h]

Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki held an extended gameplay demonstration and question and answer session at PlayStation Experience today, during which he further detailed the game's newly revealed Chalice Dungeon and other game systems.

Miyazaki explained that players will generate their own Chalice Dungeon after acquiring the special chalice and performing a ritual. Bloodborne will build a self-contained level that players can explore alone or cooperatively, as well as share with other players.

A player's Chalice Dungeon will be "fixed" after it's created, meaning the level's layout, trap and enemy placement will be the same each time a player visits it."Once you have generated your dungeon after the ritual, the dungeon will stay fixed," Miyazaki said through a translator. He also said that dungeon bosses will be part of the procedural generation, and that the flaming, giant guard dog shown in the demo won't be the only boss creature.

"It's going to remain unchanged for that time. The benefit of that is that it allows us to give the players an opportunity to master the dungeon. You may not do it the first time around, so now that your dungeon is fixed you can try another path or tactic...

"Just assume that the difficulty level of these dungeons are quite high. It's not going to be easy to breeze through these."

From Software had two objectives in creating the Chalice Dungeon system, Miyazaki said: strategically keep Bloodborne fresh and interesting and give players freedom in sharing strategies and tactics. Miyazaki said he wanted to extend the feeling of playing a game like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls for the first time, when players are sharing strategies and hints with each other. Over time, players learn pretty much everything about the game, leaving few mysteries to uncover long term.

"Similar to when a game first comes out, when people are talking about completing a dungeon or a level, we want to continue that momentum," he said. "The fixed format of the dungeon is necessary to keep that idea of wanting players to contribute but also have something to look forward to.

"The sharing of these experiences, we're trying to expand the scale of the actual share. Players will be able to share these generated dungeons and the methods they used to beat them. [We're] trying to raise the bar for freedom and scope that allows players to share their experiences. That will hopefully lead to strategies you've never seen or experienced. It's a loop of communication and discussion. It's somewhat open-ended in that sense."

Responding to questions from attendees, Miyazaki confirmed that Bloodborne will feature player-versus-player multiplayer, but wouldn't confirm precisely how players will interact with each other competitively.

Miyazaki also promised extensive character customization, saying that the options players expect from a role-playing game — different weapons, faces, items and equipment — would be present in Bloodborne. He added that customization features that are "very unique" to Bloodborne would be in the game, but added no further detail.

And while Miyazaki wouldn't confirm whether systems present in the Souls games, like becoming a hollow or soul when dying, would be in Bloodborne, he said that the development team knows what players like about their previous games and it's safe to assume that similar systems will be in place.

One feature of Dark Souls that may not transfer, however, is the popular "Praise the sun" gesture. Miyazaki said that because that gesture is closely associated with Dark Souls, he worried that Bandai Namco, the publisher of that game, may not appreciate it. A fan in attendance shouted out an alternative ("Praise the moon"), which Miyazaki seemed to like.

Bloodborne is coming to PlayStation 4 on March 24, 2015 in North America.

Nope. Not watching it. The first few minutes of a game are some of the most critical moments. It's only a little while longer till I can experience it. I can wait.

[h=2]Bloodborne will have shields, but they'll be awful[/h]

Bloodborne players will have access to shields, but they shouldn’t lean on them too hard when the game arrives exclusively on PlayStation 4 next month.

Confirmation of the personal armor's inclusion comes from an IGN interview with Masaaki Yamagiwa, a producer at Sony's Japan Studio.

"There are shields in the game," Yamagiwa said, but he clarified that death will come quickly to those who try to stand back and guard.

Bloodborne is in development at From Software, where it's being overseen by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. The game that debuted at E3 2014 is obviously inspired by the Souls series, although Bloodborne also departs from its forbearers in several ways.

Unlike the Souls games, in which players are typically equipped with a shield, Bloodborne gameplay footage consistently shows players wielding firearms where their defensive item would otherwise be. Video after video of shieldless or two-handed combat led to speculation that shields wouldn’t appear in the action-heavy title.

But just because shields will be available in Bloodborne doesn’t mean that players will be able to hide behind them — or even use them like they did in Souls games.

"We wanted to encourage players to not hide and wait, but instead be more aggressive and pro-active in battle," Yamagiwa said.

Bloodborne is headed to PS4 March 24, 2015. You can watch some shieldless combat in the video below, which ends with the game's original February release date.

The music sort of reminds of God of War, which isn't surprising since these guys worked on God of War's music as well. I like the use of the chorus, they're actually saying words instead of singing a melody.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
