Blizzard in talks with Microsoft for next Xbox

Blizzard's Rob Pardo has confirmed that his company has had talks with Microsoft about the successor to the Xbox 360.
Speaking at the Luminaries Lunch today during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Pardo would only state that Blizzard is actively in discussions with Microsoft, seemingly confirming the development process of new console hardware is under way.
However, other developers at the lunch have not spoken to either Microsoft or Sony about future plans, which has raised concerns that content isn't a priority for format holders as they plan the next-generation of home machines.
"How many designers in the games industry do you think they are rounding up to [talk to], because this is going to make or break them this time around," said Acclaim's David Perry.
"I'm not aware that they are putting a big amount of effort into finding out how to make the games. The people who are actually physically going to make the games are all going to get a surprise," he added.
Warren Spector, boss of Disney's Junction Point Studios and responsible for classic titles such as Deus Ex, said that he believes format holders are too concerned with the wider entertainment market to focus on games.
"I get the impression they're focusing on owning the living room," he said. "One device that lets you watch movies, television and play games and music and all that stuff.
"They're so focused on that that I'm not even sure they're thinking about the games that are going to come out. Which is kind of crazy." he added.
Pardo said that so far there's been a good reason why Blizzard titles such as World of Warcraft haven't appeared on home consoles – the hardware hasn't been specifically designed around some genres.
"There are are so many games like we make at Blizzard that we don't take to consoles because they don't support the input device and you end up with crappy ports. That's why RTS games never do well on consoles," he said.
"If I was them, I'd be sitting around trying to figure out what's a cool input device that supports all types of new kinds of games."

Right now 360 has a great user base with 25 million 360s sold. They have the 3rod under control. They make a profit on every 360 sold. Now is the time to reap the fruits of their labor. MS has done really well considering the circumstances. They should follow Sony's formula and release a new console around 2012 and continue game releases, LIVE and hardare support for the 360 to make the most of its huge user base.

Nothing coming out before 2015, as ppl have already mentioned Xbox is in a better position with their Live community, the hardward issues are there but they are slowly waning. I think they have a lot to do with the presnt console before they think about the next yet.

Surely gaming industry will be revolutionized by OnLive service in America whereas in Pakistan , OnlIve doesn't make sense in pak !

We should have atleast 6mb broadband to play on Onlive !

Therefore, nextbox no soon

Unless Blizzard's in talks for releasing Diablo or Warcarft or WOW on the 360. I don't think there's any need to get so excited.

All this is speculation, and plus really the onlive system is still pretty much a concept. It will not take over console gaming as providing such bandwidth requirements even in the west is not an easy thing.

Now, as I said before Microsoft like any other corporate machine out there will make sure to milk the 360 till it runs dry. They have a saying for this in the states: "Why fix what ain't broke?"

Blizzard denies 'next Xbox' rumors

Source: British game-news outlet GamesIndustry.biz.

What we heard: As the 2009 Game Developers Conference heated up last week, so too did the game-industry rumor mill. The spark was a report on GamesIndustry.biz bearing the seemingly unequivocal headline "Blizzard in talks with Microsoft for next Xbox."
The title alone stirred up a frenzy, given that Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft is the biggest massively multiplayer online game on the planet. Its nearly 12 million subscribers help Blizzard--one half of Activision Blizzzard--generate over $100 million in revenues each month. Were any console-maker to successfully woo the notoriously PC-focused developer-publisher, the resulting royalties and sales would give it a major leg up in the tooth-and-nail console wars.

Ahh man! and here I was all ready to jam out on the next console. Jo bhi hai, the rumor was pretty kool for what it was! :(

^No its not. Get lost
I think MS is already under development for the 360 with Blizzard. aND I think its release is not too far. Remember the time period between original xbox and 360. Wasnt long. If MS want a lead in the console community they should release the console after ps4.

And have you heard of PS4 development lol !

LOOK WHAT PC WORLD said .

Blizzard says Microsoft is, Blizzard says Microsoft isn't. Some stories are completely predictable.

GOsh !
Sometimes it's what a company say it's not doing that grabs your head and twists it around. Case in point, Blizzard veep of game design Rob Pardo is flatly denying rumors the company's been rapping with Microsoft about a hypothetical Xbox 360 successor (unimaginatively dubbed 'Xbox 720' by the mathematically literalist media).

Pardo reportedly told folks at GDC that Blizzard was talking with Microsoft about its next-gen games console. And then he told GameSpot he wasn't.

It's no secret high level execs yak about this stuff behind hermetically sealed walls and chambers, probably carrying around microscopic explosives that could blow open their carotid arteries if they squeal. Occasionally something leaks anyway (or appears to) then bangs around the blogosphere with exaggerated gravitas.

With the Xbox 360 over three years old, it's as likely as not that Microsoft's already broached the subject of its Xbox 360 followup act (in one form or another) with whoever it's dubbed worthy. But that's about as prescient on my part as suggesting Toyota's presently rendering concept sketches of its 2012-2013 midsize lineup, i.e. "it's the common sense, stupid."

Well u see as I myself work in a corporate enviroment, we know for a fact that if ever anything gets leaked out (e.g product development etc.) the management immediately denies it. Keeps the competition guessing, so my estimate is that there is definately something going on between MS and Blizzard.

Let's wait and see, if I were Sony I would take this rumor very strongly. (And Please no fanboy arguments here, I'm just stating my neutral opinion).
