I bought a phone from a PG User about a year ago from the marketplace, a place I know to be a well trusted and generally decent place to get a good, honest deal. You can imagine my concern and subsequent embarrassment when I went to a Three mobile shop in Manchester, United Kingdom, bought a pay-as-you-go sim and it didn't register on my phone. I asked the nice lady on the counter why this was so, she checked my IMEI and told me that the phone was indeed reported stolen and has been blacklisted. I want to PM the user from whom I bought the phone just to make sure but this is a problem that I did not foresee. Stay wary brothers. :laugh1:

Your biggest mistake was thinking that PG market place is somehow more trustworthy than say, OLX. I've seen people getting scammed by premium sellers here.

Is the seller still active here? Maybe mention his name so future buyers can be careful.

Sorry to hear that happened.

Always check IMEI status before buying phones that don't come with a box or iPhones. A very large amount of them are blacklisted and most sellers or shopkeepers in Pak will either not know, not care, or pretend to not know because it doesn't affect the functionality of the phone in this country.

I'll be honest, I wasn't even aware this was a thing until I found out the hard way. I knew certain carrier phones were locked to that particular carrier in a country but IMEI blacklisting I didn't know about. There's no point in mentioning the seller as I doubt he knew either, like murtaza12 said. Better to just check the IMEI for blacklisting from a website providing the service. A quick Google can save a lot of embarrassment. :su2:

Sorry to say, but it is ignorant of you to think that the PG guy conned you. I bet the PG guy didn't even knew himself about it.

In Pakistan, all the "kit" phones come smuggled from foreign countries, so it is likely that they may be blacklisted in their country of origin. People here buy and sell these phones casually, either unaware of it or without caring about it, because it just doesn't affect them. It doesn't make them the culprit. I myself have bought and sold numerous phones like this. If someday someone faces such as issue and criticizes me, i would straight up tell him to get their head checked & not waste my time with such BS, because he is the ignorant one.

Just sharing my honest thoughts on the issue. Feel free to disagree.
