Hey there fellow gamers !

I'm into a trouble, these days ive got an annoying 13 yr old nephew in my house who won't let me play games and consume 50 % percent of my internet connection through seamlessly streaming random cartoon and games videos on youtube and as i am a PTCL user with messy PTCL routers which don't have built-in Bandwidth control feature, so my question is that "is there any way to cap his mobile phones bandwidth flow" through any third party software ?

block his devices' MAC addresses in the router
no internet access for him *evil laugh*
I support this idea.

I know how annoying some relatives are sometimes, so I've blocked very specific MAC addresses so I don't look rude by not giving them the password.

Block it entirely, and tell him agar YouTube dekhna hai to go and buy some 4G package.

I dont think its possible without getting a tp link router that supports bandwidth control.

Wouldn't tampering with the QOS settings limit the bandwidth to a specific device?
Would be rather awkward for the guy to explain it to his sibling why the internet isn't working ;P

Setting up QOS is a pain.

Also, you can't even be sure that the QOS features work on the PTCL firmware.

Bind a static IP with his mac address and then limit bandwith on it, its less evil then blocking complete access.
And i know its difficult and might not be possible to block internet access to guests all together so i usually limit internet access to my cousins who have a bad habbit of surfing youtube all day even though my connection is unlimited.
If i had a limited connection i would even question myself giving access to such users at all. You have mobile internet packages these days.

Similar situations have come up for me, however the relative in my case was not a ladla, so I told him to go complain if he wants, but I wasn't going to bother 'fixing' the issue for him.

Setting up QOS as suggested by Hussein, is an option. However to test if it actually works on the PTCL modems, try it out on your own device, if it's working, apply the same configuration to the cousins phone, otherwise buying a new router will give you the option to mess with parental control and things like that.

You don't need Bandwidth control to bind IP to mac address but bandwidth control is basically a hardware function built into routers for that purpose. What you can try is to bind the IP and then use some software like bandwidth manager to restrict his speed and quote. Its less effective then the hardware built in function of router but i think its your only solution if your router doesn't have it.

There are few software's that claim to do that but i can't vouch for any as i have never used it. I have always used my own good quality router to achieve that and all of them have had this function in them.

This and the Sky Broadband one are both DSL modems, and not just routers.

You could buy a TP Link 740N or 841N, and use that for bandwidth control. Installing a custom firmware gives you even more control regarding timings and specific URLs to be blocked as well.

They're hard to find, but ASUS routers, the dual band ones are pretty good. I've got one and the range and performance are great, it's an RT-AC66U, a bit expensive but definitely worth it.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
