Baggage phone policy

Guys Does anyone knows what would be the policy for the phone which my brother intends to bring with him for me from USA in handcarry. He would have this phone in addition to his own phone.

Will this additional phone OnePlus 7 in this case would incur fixed slab custom duty or would it have to go through all of that commercial import taxes with 5 types of taxes.

Please help I'm so confused.

When he's landing at the airport, he won't have to do anything.

He can just pass right through customs and they won't ask him to pay any duty.

The phone will have to get approved by PTA, which can be done online. You'll have to enter both the IMEIs of the phone, after which it will generate a PSID number, which you can pay at any bank.

This will include all charges and once they're paid, the phone is added to a whitelist and it will then work on all local networks.

If the duty is not paid, the phone will work on local networks for 60 days and will then automatically get blocked by PTA.

Apparently there is a fine as well if you get it registered after the 60 day period.

The confusion arose when I saw a post somewhere where it stated that any phone brought through baggage import will have fixed slabs of tax in this case it was Pkr 17k for a phone amounting to a value of > $500, that seems quiet reasonable against that policy of commercial import taxes which had like 6 kind of taxes.

Not sure about that.

AFAIK, duty for phones can only be paid through PTA DIRBS.

The duty is quite high, more than 20k if I remember correctly.

Alright bro I will look into it. Brother bought a OP7pro for $200 used in USA, the overall deal looks quiet enticing but I can't seem to find clear figures regarding the custom duty that I would need to pay. It's a mess. Also hearing rumors regarding govt planning for some leeway for imported phones.

A phone brought through hand baggage does not in anyway effect the current account of the govt as it's not being paid off by $$ emanating from Pakistan, still govt has imposed such heavy taxation. Pity!

Do post and customs charge you in addition to DRIBS duty or you only have to pay duty via DRIBS?

40k for non-traveler, 33.5k for travelers passport. (OP7 pro is rated at $500+ slab).

Just to update if it helps anybody. For traveler I paid 31520 for iPhone 11 pro max. So this is duty for 500 plus slab.

Sir how is the phones value evaluated? Is it based on receipt of the phone the person is bringing or are they predetermined by PTA, if it is the later one, is there any documentation of which phone comes in which slab?

Brother they are pre-determined by PTA. You simply put IMEI in DRIBS portal and they fetch the name of your handset and make, from IMEI. Your duty to be paid is displayed on portal and sms to you.

I dont know if they have documentation for public regarding which phone comes in which slab
