I have not been on this forum for long but I noticed that there are no posts regarding SIM racing (LFS, rFactor etc). Are there any guys out there who play these? Are there any pakistani leagues for these games? I play these very often as they are very popular here in West.

You do need some gaming gear to play these but I think they are more fun than typical arcade games (NFS or GT4 etc). I am willing to start a league if there are people interested, what are you thoughts.

LFS = Live for Speed (www.liveforspeed.net)
rFactor = www.rfactor.net

Both are racing games, which are similar to NFS Pro Street but with one vital difference, they are realistic, meaning if you hit something, your car breaks, there is proper force feed back and you have to drive just like real life to go faster. You can find more about the games online on their websites.

I have played both Forza and Forza2, they are good games but LFS and rFactor are better than that. The physics in Forza and Forza2 is not realistic, and damage model is not accurate. It is a great game, and the plus points are that you get much range of vehicles from real life than any other game. LFS uses entirely virtual cars with exception of F1 car which is sponsored and designed by BMW F1 team. However rFactor gives much more control over car and tracks, you can create your own and there are lot already out there mostly found and rfactorcentral.

The fact that likes of BMW, Williams and Mclaren openly admit using LFS and rFactor for F1 driving simulations and driving training shows that these games are much more realistic and apart from being End user games, are also used in industry of real life scenarios. You probably can drive Forza on Xbox with a gamepad, however to drive LFS and rFactor you need a Wheel at the very least, and you will get better control and speed if you also have an H Gear Shifter and Clutch/Brake/Gad paddles.

Here is a video of guy using G25 wheel and LFS

The reason I started this thread was to find out if anyone plays these games, I don't have intention to start a debate on good or bad games :)

Ah thanks for explaining it. I had heard LFS many times but never really knew what it was.

Acutally I have played it, it is a great game, I like that it is very up to date with WRC cars etc. Personally I am not a rally lover but I do like the game.

GT series true racing Sim

I take it that you are referring to Grand Turismo, GT4 was very good at its time, however things have moved on. According to reviews, GT5 is GT4 in HD, apart from that there is not much difference as far as game play is concerned. On top of it the most important thing is to provided a true multilayer environment where players from all over the world can participate. LFS and rFactor do that very well. I still play GT4 on my PS2 but to be honest it is no way near that thrill that you get while driving LFS or rFactor. And of course they the multiplayer so you know where you stand in terms of fast laps etc and how good you are. LFS provide their own site where they keep record of each and every race done online and than rank players, you can watch your fastest laps and other people's fastest laps on same tracks, you can exchange setup's and talk to real people. I participate in a generic racing system called CTRA, you can race in that league does not matter who you are. Of course LFS keeps track of my records, but CTRA makes them public.

and here are my stats (Only on CTRA servers)

http://www.raceauthority.com/stats/?licence=jindjaan

I am not the best over there but I am 25th in UK and 214th in World, not bad for part time racer eh :). For LFS records, which of course includes races done on CTRA or any other online server registered with LFS master server, you have to registered LFS user, and get those at http://www.lfsworld.net, you can login as guest to have look see.

The point of all of the above talk is that online racing has come a long way, when I am racing online against others, I find myself most of the time sweating after a long race because of the hard work :p.
