Chandoo: Everything about this game sounds good so far. Shame about the comparison though. Guess I will have to use the 360 version then, if I want comparison :p

Well .. unless it turns out the 360 version is a generational leap ahead, i don't think there's going to be much of a difference between those two :p ..

either way i'm enjoying the game so far. It's funny that as much effort was put into the Alien's animations and AI, the humans kinda suck :p the stealth is kinda broken when avoiding humans, humans can't see you a feet away from them if you're crouched in a somewhat dark corner.

previous Alien games left a bad taste in my mouth but after seeing all the gameplay vids of this one I ended up ordering it..lets hope i wont have to chalk this under "money down the drain"
I love how the Alien is presents a constant sense of doom..no matter what kind of shit you got up your sleeve, you just cant kill it

Good news everyone !!! the flamethrower actually works repelling the Alien if you manage to pull it up in time to use it before he chomps your head off.

I had a heart-attack enducing moment where the alien literally dropped out of a vent right behind me and in a panic i pulled up the flame thrower and pressed the fire button before he pounced. The alien screetched like crazy and ran into me, knocking me down. By the time my character got up the alien was out of sight...

phew ..

Every negative review is lambasting the game for its lack of 'action' and repetitive nature. Running, back-tracking, opening doors, crouching, hiding in lockers and doing others bidding. Novelty factor appears to be present for the first couple of hours and the gameplay then starts to feel like a chore.

Kevin Van Ord doesn't appear to be a fan of the 'Alien' franchise. So his review was very balanced in that regard.

lol IGN's review cites "unpredictable Alien AI" as a negative ..
fuuuuuucking BULLSHIT .. that's the whole point IGN
Don't you mean "frustrating Alien AI"? :p

Unpredictable would be a good thing, but as per the review there seems to be a lot of trial and error involved, with very little margin for error.

It means the Xenomorph can get you anywhere at any time, giving you no opportunity to avoid death, and run you down if it hears so much as a pin drop

IGN reworded the sentence after me and a few other gaffers pointed it out in the first few pages of the Review topic on neogaf lol, its true.

I have had an impact on games industry as a whole now :p

The ign reviewer was playing on hard. Normally that's a good way to get frustrated by a game you're not familiar with.
The part about consistent backtracking is well taken though. I'll still play this. Been looking forward to it for a long time.

from someone whose already played 8~ish hours of the game (still no sight of ending). I can tell you that much .. yes you DO backtrack, but its never needless like go back to certain place and collect X number of things .. it always serves the story purpose ..besides, you're locked in a space station, you're not in an open world here.

There's a central tram system that connect the 3 main 'hubs' of the station, you often go back through the tram station when you have to go somewhere else, its not so different from the Dead Space tram system, where you go back to it if you wanna go somewhere.

also, the only major difference between difficulties is how responsive the Alien is, naturally on hard it will hear you and track you more easily. I'm playing on Normal and even here I have to be extra careful, if the Alien is in SIGHT, its probably a smart idea to crouch behind a corner, make no noise and wait for it to go away, but its not a smart thing to use the motion tracker too much if the alien is very close either, since it can hear the beeps, so you have to rely on your own hearing as much as the motion tracker to avoid it.

Yeah Kotaku stated that they dropped the difficulty down to easy and even then it wasn't that easy. I like their description of the game:

"It's equal parts*Worst-Case Situation Simulator 2014and*"F*** Everything!": The Game."

sigh .. what is it with good games having absolutely TERRIBLE 20 second endings -_-

finished the game, quite a lengthy experience and there's a few surprises in the back half .. but DAMN if that ending wasn't just too sudden and unsatisfying.

well ... i guess absolutely no one on PG is playing this besides me ? ...

The Crew Expendables DLC is also out, but I'll return to this after The Evil Within.

For now, here's some parting shots from the last-gen version (two are spoilers, marked in spoiler tags).

Some areas look very Dead Space-ish

Patient Zero, (as in the host of the Alien terrorizing you) this is not a spoiler, you run into this very early in the game.

The game has a bunch of great "escape a burning place" moments, unfortunately couldn't snap one of the better one's as most of them will kill you if you stand around :p (and this game doesn't pause when you press the Home button to open the snapshot menu, it keeps going.

Alien reference yay !

and finally .. the best advice given by the game for what *not* to do in the Alien's presence :( ... yes i tried to run ... yes it did not end well.

Spoiler: show

This came as a shock to me too, I wasn't expecting that the Derelict would be revisited. However, they did probably need to show where the aliens came from I guess ..

Speaking of which... THIS came as an even bigger shock .. I did *NOT* expect there would be more than one Alien. I assumed even after blasting it off half-way through, it would come back some how.. did *not* expect this.

Started playing this today and made it as far as the 1st transit station . Really enjoying it so far, especially the sound design. Waiting for that train to arrive was agonisingly tense :)
the only issue is my xbox 360 controller keeps refusing to work every 5 minutes so I'll have to play with a mouse and kb from now

[h=2]Why Sigourney Weaver returned as Ripley in Alien: Isolation[/h]

Alien: Isolation, The Creative Assembly's take on the Alien franchise, is the only game actress Sigourney Weaver has offered her talents to because it's "the first time it makes sense" to her, The Mary Sue reports.

Alien: Isolation stars the daughter of Weaver's iconic Ellen Ripley, Amanda. However, Weaver reprised her role to voice small sections throughout the game, as well as appear in additional downloadable content.

"I get approached to do other kinds of games, sometimes to do with Alien, and this is the first one that seemed to me to be very ambitious in a new direction, using the details of Jim Cameron's script," Weaver said. "You know, the fact that Ripley never was able to be reunited with her daughter."

"... Frankly, these movies are hard acts to follow. That's the biggest challenge of anything that's good enough to spawn a sequel is that it's setting a high bar. "

Continuing on about Alien: Isolation, Weaver said that the game interested her because it has an original story that's "faithful to the first film" while still taking an emotional direction.

"To me it's interesting story-wise and character-wise," she said.

Alien: Isolation launched today for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. For more on the game, check out our review. You can read more about games in the Alien franchise in our written history.
