Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has said he will retire from Test cricket following the second Test against Australia at Headingley starting next Wednesday.

Afridi made his announcement to BBC Radio after leading Pakistan in a 150-run defeat in the first Test at Lord's. He said he no longer had the temperament for the five-day game after what was his first Test in four years.

Bad decision. Series is still open, now goons like shoaib malik and company will again take over with kitchen politics.

In between the series? Are you kidding me? I mean... hes no captain material but I'd rather have him carry the team for this series atleast. Not the right time to make such decisions.

You guys don't get it. I don't like him as a captain. But this isn't a time for experimenting with a new captain, coz they need a new one quick. Its a right decision but at a foolish time.

I won't say he not suited for test cricket at all. His stats are decent for the kind of player he is. T20 is messing him up. I hate T20s.

the think is his bolwing i think thats what annoying him more shane warne also pointed out his bolwing during the math he is not bolwing his quicker one and skiddy bolwing he was giving the ball more flight like a traditional leg spin bolwer thats why he dint get wickets and as far as his batting is concerned everyone knows

well, afridi (as beloshi said) isn't really suited for the test matches ... so i'd say that it's a good decision, but after the current series that is ... and just hope that someone sensible successes him!

If he didnt want to become captain then he shouldnt have become one...seriously everyone will now blame PCB for this blunder too..
Butt is most likely to become captain since every Pakistani hates Malik...

QFT.
Afridi is a decent test player with a healthy batting average of 37. But for some mundane reason, he has stopped believing in his abilities. :S
T20 is a hit-and-giggle game. That format is messing up our entire game and I blame it, coupled with the PCB management, for the pitiful state our cricket is in right now.

Anyway, the time to announce his retirement was bad. It`ll do more damage than good. Spirits are already low and they`ll drop down even further
May Allah help our cricket !

Sensible decision but foolish timing.

Afridi is honest enough to leave his place for a specialist, unlike what people in power do. He gets full marks for that (y)
What Younis lacked ,was support from the board. He was managing things quite well until you-know-what....... That`s where the board should`ve stepped in and resolved the issue. Which obviously they didn`t bother to do.

A captain must always have complete backing from the higher authorities. Back stabbing and mutiny is part of every sport but is there a proper body to check and deal with it? Yes, but not in our country.

Now all I can do is remember those good ol days and cry myself to sleep. The situation post WC2007 has been saddening for country and all its departments. Every single thing is going downhill including the moods of its people.

Just a reminder what Butt and his policies have cost our team:crying:

Seriously

So, what else team changes will be occurring for 2nd Test Match ?

-Yousuf hasnt played a game for a while now, so he's not coming back.

-I really think Afridi cant handle the stress of a captain, ball eating first and now after losing he retires from the format

-Afridi should have announced his retirement after the series, and informed PCB first.... total unprofessionalism I tell ye!

-Yonis Khan is a total unprofessional jerk. "oh they did this to I am not playing", "oh they asked me questions, i am not playing", "oh tey didnt listen to me, I am not listening too". Do you guys really want a guy as captain who abandons his team every other match.

-Right now Smallman Butt, Kalima Akhmal are the only candidates to lead. they have good performances as captain in the domestic setup.

No doubt Afridi was not efficient enough to cope with different challenging situations but still he was a senior player and can lead the team. All the cricket news and cricket updates are focusing the same notion. I think it’s time for Mr. Ijaz Butt to go back to his home town, and leave the place for some suitable person.
