Ace Attorney - The best game series I've played and why you should play it too

Hello everyone,
You guys might known me to be active at PC/PS3 games(including DOTA 2, SF4, Diablo 3, etc.) which are played on the big screen but today I'm going to talk about a TOTALLY different game which even the likes of me who has played most of his games on a large screen or monitor would still play this game on a my cell phone or small screen.

What is this game?
You assume the role of a defense attorney in a fictional courtroom setting, which is based on the Japanese legal system, to strive to find their clients "not guilty" using investigation, evidence, and cross-examination to prove their case.

How I missed this awesome game?
Cause it is for the NDS and either you need to buy the game or run it through emulator

Why should I play it?
Its a unique game which involves a lot of thinking and logical reasoning for solving the games. Also the story behind each of the characters in the series is awesome and by the time you finish you will acknowledge each of their personalities

Some Screens?

Ok Im interested, how do I get started?
You start off in the following order

  • Main series
    • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
The original GBA game was released in 2001, with the Japanese and English DS ports in 2005. The game's story introduces Phoenix Wright, Mia and Maya Fey, and Miles Edgeworth, along with other minor characters that reappear in later games. The original GBA game contained four cases; a special fifth case named "Rise from the Ashes" was made for the DS version that utilized additional investigation techniques that relied on the features of the DS, such as the microphone and touchscreen. This game has also been ported to the iPhone and iPod, and is available through the iTunes App Store. As of May 30, 2013, the entire trilogy has been released to the Japan, U.S., and Europe App stores.[7]

  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice for All
The second game was released on the GBA in Japan in 2002, and on the DS in 2006 and 2007. The game contains four cases, in both the Advance and DS versions, and takes place about a year after the events of the first game. It introduces the characters of Pearl Fey, the younger cousin of the Fey sisters, and Franziska von Karma, daughter of Manfred von Karma.

  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
The third game was released on the GBA in Japan in 2004, with Japanese and English DS ports following in 2007. The game takes place roughly a year after the previous game and includes many characters from both previous games, and has the player take control of Mia Fey with two cases in the past, as well playing a part of the final case as Miles Edgeworth. There are five cases total within the game.

  • Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
The fourth game was released in Japan in April 2007 and in North America on February 19, 2008.[8] It is the first installment to be developed specifically for the Nintendo DS. Taking place several years after the events of the original trilogy, the game focuses on a new rookie attorney, Apollo Justice, who is hired by Phoenix after he loses his attorney license. The game features four cases.

  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies
The fifth game in the main series, Dual Destinies was announced on January 29, 2012. In September 2012, Famitsu revealed the game was in development for the Nintendo 3DS and once again would star Phoenix as the main protagonist, along with Apollo Justice and a new partner, Athena Cykes. The game was released in Japan on July 25, 2013 and was released as a digital download exclusive title in North America and Europe on October 24, 2013.[9][10] The game was later ported to iOS in 2014.[11]

  • Investigations series
    • Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
The fifth game to be released, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, (known in Japan as Gyakuten Kenji (逆転検事?, Turnabout Prosecutor) and originally codenamed New Gyakuten Not Saiban (NEW逆転 NOT裁判?, "NEW Turnabout, NOT Trial"), was released in Japan on May 28, 2009 and in North America on February 16, 2010. Situated after the events of Ace Attorney 3, the games stars prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, his new assistant "Great Thief" Kay Faraday, and detective Dick Gumshoe. The investigation portions are now completed using a third-person camera view, while the witness/suspect cross-examinations have been moved outside of court to the crime scenes. The rest of the gameplay remains firmly true to the series' previous four installments.

  • Gyakuten Kenji 2
The sixth game, Gyakuten Kenji 2, was released in Japan on 3 February 2011. It takes place about two weeks after the events of Gyakuten Kenji. There is a new gameplay mechanic known as "Logic Chess" that is similar to the Psyche Locks of previous games, except the player is given a choice of dialogue options to proceed in a certain order instead of evidence. There are currently no plans to localize the game outside of Japan,[12] but in 2014 a translation by fans of the series was released.[13]

Why i'm sharing this now?
Its because their latest title was released for Japanese only Gyakuten Kenji 2 aka "Miles EdgeWorth: Investigations 2" and the series die hard fans translated the game on their own, producing a patch for translating the whole game into English. This is no easy task as it took 2-3 years for this project to get completed. Please refer to thsi thread if you end up playing the game

Ace Attorney Investigation (2): Prosecutor's Path Cases 1-5 beta [RELEASE] | GBAtemp.net -> The Independent Video Game Community: 3DS, Gateway 3DS, NDS and R4, Wii, PSP, PS4, Xbox One and all the gaming universe

I have a PC, how do I play this?
You download emulators for NDS likes Desmume or No$GBA

Hey I'm a Ace Attorney fan too!!
High five bro, I'm glad there are others who have played this gem of a game as well.

I've played the first game, was pretty funny and had that japanese nuttiness.

Tried playing the second game in the series, it started off like shit and then I lost interest in the series. Does it get better after the 2nd one? =/

Played the main trilogy on the DS. Fun game, it was a nice take on courtroom drama. The supernatural stuff and the channeling thing felt so out of place, though.

Hopefully they'll make a sequel that is as good as the first games.

Its really great man, especially the later ones(especially Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations where you play as Mia Fey in some cases) as they link back to some of the past cases. Also if you liked Miles EdgeWorth the proscetutor, then you might play the investigation series in which he takes the lead role. Also its more interactive since you search for evidence, talk to witnesses, etc.

It does retain some of the good of the first game. One of the cases from the 2nd or 3rd game (forgot which one) was regarded as the best in the series, to which I agreed.

Desolator: I have only tried the Edgeworth spin-off aside from the main games, and I didn't like it at all.

Apollo Justice never ran on my DS. I might emulate it if it's worth it. And I don't have a 3DS so I can't play DD.

Im playing it on the PC via Emulator. I personally loves the Edgeworth spin-off as you get to do detective business outside the courtroom. Also you always get to meet some of the folks from the series as well. I would highly recommend giving it another go if you didnt get the chance to complete it. Im playing the part 2 of it these days and its brilliant.

My first impression towards Apollo justice wasn't that great either, but after seeing the trailer of Dual Destinies, I changed my mind and thought about giving it another go. I was quite surprised I didn't play it earlier as you still get the meet Pheonix but just from a different perspective, not to mention the story is still continuing.

Well, this thread came out of nowhere. Shouldn't it be in the Nintendo Hub?

If you guys like Ace Attorney, give Ghost Trick a try. It's made by the same people and a pretty good game.

At first I was about to but since the game can also be played via emulator thus its not limited to NDS only, I didn't want to turn away the reader just knowing that its for NDS only where in fact it isnt. The purpose of the thread was to give a shout out to a great series and spread the word to people who still haven't played it yet.

I don't think emulation counts as a platform. Why even bother having a Nintendo Hub if that's the case? Anyway, I haven't read the section rules so, eh.

But seriously, Ghost Trick. If you guys liked Ace Attorney, you'll love it as well.

True but at the same time I want the audience reading the thread to know that it can be played on other platforms as well. If it were a new game or some news regarding GBA then the Nintendo prefix was a must. Again I have my reasoning, my purpose is to attract people who haven't played this game to try it out whether on the Nintendo/PC/any other mobile device.
