hello

so i have to get a new gpu and my budget allows me to select from the following options.

GTX 980ti 6GB in used.

or

GTX 1060 6Gb new.

I am super confused here. in terms of performance the 980ti out performs with ease but its an old thing now. i generally keep things for like 2 years before i go on for upgrading. so please help me with my confusion.

Note that i dont play games in 2k or 1440p..

980Ti for me.
Currently, all prices of 1060 are artificially inflated due to mining. Performance wise, 980Ti is better. And it is still top of the line cards.

it depends on many factors

  • Condition of 980Ti / Price / used in mining or not
  • Your PSU can handle 980 Ti or not
  • Price of 980Ti vs 1060

as your monitor resolution looks 1080p so 1060 6gb is more than enough
performance vise 980Ti is recommended, however you will find it used for 2~2.5 year @~ 50k & MIGHT BE USED IN MINING which is risky
conclusion:- get 980Ti if it is 1 year or less used & not used in mining, otherwise get a new 1060 6 GB

Ok thanks for the clarification

a new 1060 is like 48k and a used 980ti is being sold for about 50k here as well. I have spoken to one of the person here who said it's not used in mining, only gaming. But it's about 2 years old now.
I will most probably change my power supply . Right now I have upgraded my pc to new gen (8th gen) so I have to look for about next 2 years before I upgrade. Right now my monitor sucks so that is going to be the next upgrade for me, currently it can't even support 1080 (it's old).

my only concern is that the 980ti is from 2015 so I don't know how well it will do in 2019, and 1060 is on a new technology

Old is gold bro, many people says that 1050ti is better than 780, i personally checked both on a single system, and you know what, 1050 ti is a shit,
No doubt 980 ti is old but it is the last card of 9 series and got 384 bit, some versions like hydro copper or G1 or gold edition gives nearly performance of 1070, 1060 is far away from 980 ti.

From the reviews and stuff 980ti is almost on same level as 1070. Now when spending like 50k I need to look for like atleast 2 years out of it and that's what's confusing me a lot. 980 is from 2015, so idk how well it will last :(

Take my advise friend, never buy a used gpu, you dont know how the previous owner/owners have used it and with what kind of a psu it was powered and whether it was used for minning.

Word to the wise, dont go for everything the seller tells you about the product he is selling you.

GTX 1060 might be inferior to the 980ti but its brand new 'virgin'.

Go for the 1060 6gb.
