360 Jasper 'Open tray' error

Hi guys,

Well i guess most people already know of this error. My jasper got this problem when i upgraded to the new dashboard, so i suspect it may have something to do with it.

Anyway, i know it's not the lens that's the problem as if i play around with ejecting and re-inserting the disc, turning it off and on, or moving it to the vertical position, it eventually starts working. Once it works it won't give any errors at all no matter how long i play.

So i think the problem has to do with the laser not moving to the correct position of the disc to read it. So it assumes that the disc is empty and you get the 'open tray' sign. I've read of the 'rubber band' fix, where you tie one on to the railing to stop the laser from moving too far back.

So finally to my question, is anyone here in islamabad tech savvy enough to open up my xbox so i can try this rubber band fix? I know there are plenty of tutorials out there but i don't have the correct tools for it.

If it doesn't work then i guess i will have to get a new drive? Any idea how much a new one costs? Will i need to flash the new drive again as well?

I got the number of someone in committee chowk, pindi, but i'm wondering if there is someone based in islamabad who can open it in front of me.

try the rubber band trick and there so many other tricks on youtube you can try those tricks aswell but if u fail unluckily the try swaping laser with ben q drives i have the same problem currently haven't tried rubber band trcik will try that soon and if rubber band does not work the i am swaping laser with ben q drive

nothing to do with the dashboard ... the game working after repeated tries is a sign of weak lens or the rubber as you said

Better to check it from the Experts, they will open in front of u. You are at high risk if u mess with Xbox 360 DVD ROM

Yeah, i'm still looking for someone in islamabad who can open it in front of me. I forgot to add that i can also hear something loose inside, if i move it around i can hear it rattling. Maybe that has something to do with it? Today it read the disc the first time i turned it on, so it's kind of moody.

i open it my self i had same problem and i fixed it with a rubber band and it works like a charm

Ahhh i guess i need to open it up and give it a shot too. Did you need any special tools for it? Was it hard to open it?

when i get the error i do this:
remove the disc
turn off the console
place it vertically
open the tray and insert disc........ It should start working

easiest way

my xbox did the same thing.
it used ro give me a cranky kind of sound while reading the disc and the message use to appear "open tray"

The most easiest way to get rid of this prob is to,
tap the console while the console is reading disc, basically wht happens is tht the disc is not set in the position for the lens or the laser is not in position, so the tapping makes it in position.(bye)

The same thing happened to me after i upgraded to the new dash , i tried to play 3 new games that i burned but nun of them seemed to work it gave me the open tray .. but i did play all my previous riped games except for the new games like DB Raging Blast 2 and naruto. i opened up my xbox360 and i took of the top of my drive and changed the position of the laser by pushing it back with my thumb and ran then DVD it read the dvd but when i ejected it , i had to do the same to get it running again . i tried swaping it with a liton but it still said the same . THE only Solution I have is to send it to a professional cuz if i mess around with it then im surly going to ruin it .. And PLZZZ a friendly advice Send the whole xbox or the delivery charges will suck u dry .. I just sent my xbox to Khi to get fixed .. Pray i get it back by friday ..

This sort of stuff happens to my Jasper occasionally, It's not related to the Dash update as far as I know.The best way to deal with this is to empty the disc tray and then restart the console a couple of times, or even try to play a different disc, that works for me.You can even try switching profiles.

And don't tap or hit the console while a disc is in the tray, that's sure way of getting your disc scratched up and your drive damaged.

I will get your console tommorow Then I will put an update here should there be any "open tray" issue. Till then chillax.

Fixed and sent back..... Apparently the 360 was acting up due to faulty drive cables. After changing the cables and replacing with brand new OEM parts, the issue was resolved itself.

Update: Mamoonmansoor confirms that the issue has been solved with the new cables. I have another pair of the OEM cables available for anyone who might have such an issue.
