2K and EA license NVIDIA PhysX technology
NVIDIA announced today that two major game publishers have signed on to license its PhysX technology to bring realistic physics to video games on the PC and game consoles. Both EA and 2K games have licensed PhysX for use in their video game products.
2K Games says that it licensed the technology because it is the world's most pervasive physics technology solution for real-time, real-world effects. 2K also cites PhysX as another example of how NVIDIA GPU's can transcend graphics processing alone. The game publisher says that it will first use PhysX technology in its coming game title Borderlands as well as other future releases.
NVIDIA announced in August that all of its 8000 series GPUs and above would support PhysX processing on the GPU. 2K's Jacob Hawley said in a statement, "We are very impressed with the quality of the PhysX engine and we licensed it so our studios can use this solution early in development. Developing games with an interactive story and immersive gameplay remains our number one priority, and aligning with technology leaders like NVIDIA allows our teams to concentrate on making great games."
Along with 2K, EA also announced today that it was licensing PhysX technology for physics acceleration. EA says that using PhysX on the GeForce GPU allows walls to be torn down, trees to bend in the wind and water to react realistically.
EA's Tim Wilson said in a statement, "PhysX is a great physics solution for the most popular platforms, and we're happy to make it available for EA's development teams worldwide. Gameplay remains our number one goal, with character, vehicle and environmental interactivity a critical part of the gameplay experience for our titles, and we look forward to partnering with NVIDIA to reach this goal."
