I have to buy a phone for official usage, budget assigned by company is 12k only so I am willing to put 8-10k to get a decent phone. I need suggestions which one to go for as I have to live with it for 2 years atleast. Although I need a compact phone but nothing even in budget category is below 6.5" these days

What I have shortlisted

1. Redmi 9 (3/32 G80) bored of MIUI using Mi phones for last 2 years
2. Realme 5i (3/32 SD665) heard android 10 update screwed it badly

Please suggest anything that is bit light and compact but powerfull enough to last 2 years.

compact fones are stories of past, specially in lower/mid range category. In upper range category, you have a choice of Samsung Galaxy S10e or Xperias (if they are still making it).

In news fones, your budget is quite limited, Redmi 9 is a good choice. You can also check Oppo F9/11 if you are ok in buying used.

Used not an option has to be new .. I think realme 5i it is then as I trust SD processors more thn MTK.

I was looking at tecno and infinix models they are massively big with 6.7/6.9 displays.

Well, redmi 9 was the best choice but you are bored.. other than that infinix hot 10 but then again it's too big for you. Maybe Nokia 2.4 but it has a very shitty processor

Lower end Nokias have such shitty processors they are out, why no one suggesting Realme 5i i mean yes 665 is an old processor but I am sure still better then MTK. Really don't have much choice

Nope Helio G80 is the better processor compared to SD 665. Mediatek is not the old mediatek anymore with shitty throttling overheating processors and bad Dev support. You can compare these two on Google if you wish. I myself am using Helio p60 (Nokia 5.1 plus) since more than a year now, not disappointed.
