Hey Guys I am back.
So after buying a flagship grade processor phone (snapdragon 870) I came to know that 4G speed also depends on LTE modem of your device.
Here I confirm that Zong is using CA between bands 1+3 with 10+20 MHz bandwidth. Speed has improved a LOT. I am getting more than 100 Mbps in my room.
On the other Hand Jazz is still on single band 3 with 20 MHz 4G. At morning my speed goes around 65 Mbps and at night it goes down to 35 Mbps which is pretty good as well.
Telenor is using 10+5 MHz band now between bands 5+3. Their speed improved on morning and provides upto 50 Mbps but in the evening it goes down to below 10 Mbps and at peak hours (sorry no screenshot) it goes down further to below 2 Mbps.

$31 million for 1800 MHz and $29 million for 2100 MHz.

I wonder if Telenor will bother participating or it will just be Zong vs Jazz.

They better participate. After so many years they reshuffled their 3G and 4G spectrums (at least in the urban areas, which now has 10+5Mhz for 4G). Not sure what on earth they were waiting for.

If they're serious, they should first improve their coverage - signals are still a pathetic mess.

Spectrum auction is supposed to happen this month.

Does anybody know a specific date?

Good thing the next fiscal year starts in 17 days...

Not a good thing that they haven't exactly mentioned when in the next fiscal year.

Anyone read the latest PTA QoS report?

Lots of praises for Zong (which is the only operator that doesn't use 256QAM) for data and voice reliability.

But also, they've noted in a few places that none of the operator's support VoLTE - so maybe something will change soon?

Lots of praise for an operator that has been using more spectrum than it is currently assigned for several months now. Is that fair?

Either way, I'm sure they would've taken the lead regardless, Jazz seems to be doing terribly according to the report.

They were making it seem as if the operators are holding back, but didn't Jazz's CCO tell @zafarabbasrizvi that PTA requires telcos to acquire a license to use VoLTE?

Seems like Jazz is ready for it. The VoLTE toggle shows up on pretty much any recent Samsung phone now, and any iPhone that has the latest carrier updates installed.

Yeah - it just seemed a bit too in-your-face. They did say Mobilink had higher upload speeds, used CA (albeit much less than Telenor or Zong), had higher speeds than the rest (give or take), but mentioned that their calls fell back to GSM more often than Telenor.

Actually, call quality was a big, disjointed section - but worth a read. Data and calls were pro-Zong - and they have improved I must say, but I know Mobilink still has better speeds at piss-poor signal (but in better environments, Zong matches them - it's a toss between the two, honestly, in those scenarios).

That's what I remember - but I suppose that's not the case and operators are being lazy about it? I mean, they can even get their coverage fixed. But about your phone point - most new phones have it and the option depends on the phone software AND the network (iPhones always showed the VoLTE option, but Android phones didn't unless the network explicitly supported it).

Worth a read (the report, that is).

LOL.

I did say "they".

One thing though - on piss-poor signals, assuming both are at the same strength etc., Jazz works better on 4G.

Zong launched this recently as well. It's a good investment, but very expensive to deploy and seeing how much Jazz is struggling to roll-out CA outside key areas, I doubt most people will be able to take advantage of this since it will probably be available on a very limited number of sites.

I don't know if Zong has launched this or not, but I read Zong don't support 256QAM (Jazz does), hence the lower COMPARATIVE speeds (at least on my phone).

I have noticed that even in piss-poor conditions and zero aggregation, sometimes Jazz will still be significantly faster. I just did this test right now, at my home:

Zong:

Screenshot_20210722-112940.jpgScreenshot_20210722-113002.jpg

Mobilink, on a single carrier, gave me around 7 Mbps. When I ran it again, it said dual carrier kicked in and showed this:
Screenshot_20210722-113039.jpg

Since the forum isn't letting me attach more than 3 files, the dual carrier stats are:

1800Mhz:
RSRP: -111dB
RSRQ: -14

900Mhz:
RSRP: -111dB
RSRQ: -7

In the end, both are comparable at different spots - it depends on how clean your signal is. I've personally hit 100 Mbps on Jazz (averages between 20 and 60), but the highest I've seen on Zong is 60Mbps (averaging between 20 and 40 in my limited testing). My sister's place doesn't have strong Jazz signals (100dBm max) but she gets 70Mbps inside her house. Zong with 90dBm doesn't go beyond 20Mbps, with aggregation.

You can't go wrong with both for general usage - except the likelihood of receiving a strong signal is higher with Zong, but the likelihood of getting faster speeds even in pathetic signal areas with Jazz is much higher - and I suspect this is owing to 256QAM (without technical knowledge). Zong probably went the aggregation route to achieve similar performances, but aggregation can do only so much alone.

I just tried again (before posting) to check consistency and got similar results - Jazz on 35Mbps in pathetic conditions (with aggregation) while Zong, in less pathetic conditions, not going beyond 3Mbps. And I see this change happen as I step inside my house. Outside my house, I've seen Mobilink give me 10Mbps in average signal conditions while Zong fluctuates between 3Mbps and 70Mbps.

Yesterday evening, on the first storey in a house in F-8/4, Zong (with carrier aggregation, both around -98dBm RSRQ) gave me around 15-20Mbps. Jazz, with similar aggregation and signal strength of -94dBm or so, gave me around -50Mbps.

So it's still apples to oranges, but for the most part, Zong's speeds have tremendously improved, and for data, you can't go wrong with both as they'll give you similar experiences in the majority of places (but in weaker signal areas, Mobilink, 90% of the time, will still beat Zong)

Oh, and I've been testing for a few weeks now so this isn't a fleeting test - these are my observations.

If I were a new customer - I just might opt for Zong cause they have aggregation, stable fast speeds, and their signals are in many places (except where they're not). But on the other hand, where I can get a dot on Jazz 4G, the speeds will be decent enough so it's a moot. For voice, Mobilink falls back to 2G so much it's become a joke (haven't used Zong for calling so I can only refer to the PTA QOS report - which said they don't fall back to 2G much).

Interesting bit from this article, PTA is imposing a Spectrum cap on Jazz and Zong for the upcoming auction, but only for 1800 MHz. Thankfully, 2100 MHz is uncapped.

Spectrum Cap

In order to avoid asymmetric spectrum holdings and to ensure that all CMOs have a chance to standardize their spectrum holdings in the 1800 MHz band, a spectrum cap has been imposed in the 1800 MHz band to limit the amount of spectrum that can be acquired in the 1800 MHz band in the Spectrum Auction. This is set at 40 percent of all the spectrums in this band (2×30 MHz in total) while considering each CMO’s Existing Spectrum including sub-judice.

Given each CMO’s Existing Spectrum in the Band,

a. Jazz will be able to bid on up to 2×5.2 MHz as it is currently using 2×24.8 MHz of the spectrum in the 1800 MHz band;

b. Zong will be able to bid on up to 2×7.4 MHz as it is currently using 2×22.6 MHz of the spectrum in the 1800 MHz band (2×16 MHz of its licensed spectrum plus a temporary additional 2×6.6 MHz spectrum being sub-judice in a Court of Law); and

c.Telenor and Ufone are not constrained by this spectrum cap, given that they each currently hold less than 2×10 MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum.
