Ella Balinska stars in Luminous Productions’ twist on the stranger in a strange land

Forspoken, the narrative adventure from Luminous Productions, will launch May 24, 2022, Square Enix announced at The Game Awards 2022.

In a new trailer setting up the narrative, protagonist Frey Holland, a New Yorker, ends up in Athia, possessed of awesome supernatural powers, and not sure why or what to do about either. She’s also landed in the middle of a serious conflict, where one side seems not to trust her, and another definitely does not.

The villains here are formerly benevolent matriarchs, known as Tantas, who are now “maddened and evil sorceresses,” says Luminous Productions. Frey agrees to help the last citizens of Athia, and she sets off on a journey to defeat the Tantas and discover her own powers.

The 90-second gameplay trailer shows off Frey’s traversal, melee, offensive, and defensive abilities, as well as the array of beasts and baddies she’ll deploy those skills against. Forspoken, formerly known as Project Athia, was revealed in March. Ella Balinska (Charlie’s Angels) stars as Frey. The game will launch for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.

This game had little to no hype, almost feels like SE were sending it out to die in May, maybe this delay will give more time for marketing and hype.

That stupid fucking Chaos FF game has more marketing, and even a demo, over this.

- Quality mode features better textures, draw distance and higher resolution (1728p on average).
- Ray-Tracing mode decreases resolution (1512p on average), texture quality and drawing distance to present better shadows on some elements, but not on reflections or global illumination.
- Ray-Tracing of shadows does not apply to all elements. Vegetation does not benefit from this technique and represents a large part of the environment. I definitely do not recommend this display mode.
- Performance mode has the same texture and draw distance clipping as Ray-Tracing mode, as well as limiting its resolution to 1440p dynamic with temporal reconstruction. Despite the visual sacrifices, it does not maintain a stable 60fps.
"A massive downgrade is coming"

Does not recommend RT mode.
Performance mode (1260p common) does not maintain stable 60fps.

Sounds rough.

Played the demo yesterday. The game looks absolute crap... I mean it looks like an early PS4 game let alone a PS5 exclusive title. The limited scope of the world in the demo was littered with those dated fetch quests and the enemy variety seems to be abhorrent. A complete chore-fest !!! To be fair, I actually enjoyed the combat but everything else is so bad that the combat alone cant do much. It feels as if the game wants to be an RPG, an ARPG, a JRPG and an action game all at once but fails in pretty much all of them.

I think SE released the demo to ensure no one buys the game at launch. It is THAT bad !!!

Yar the performance issues of this game should be the least of the concerns given the state of the demo. I dont know why do developers opt for "OPEN WORLD" games when the world is as shit as this one. If the world sucks even inside a limited demo, then there are much bigger concerns than performance because even a better performing game cannot outrun a bland boring world.

Yeah they seem to be selling the whole game on the idea of a magic ability driven combat loop which can be fun for a while (I mean, even Anthem was fun for a little bit) but I doubt it can hold interest for the whole game. Parkour isn't interesting either when, like you said, the world looks so shit.

Performance mode is around 900p, RT 1000p, Quality 1296p.

This is disastrous showcase for a current gen only game. Looks like SE vastly overestimated the capabilities of PS5 in their demos.

This game is getting treated like the step child and FFXVI the iklauta son.

This will be 2023's Babylon's Fall.

Luminous Engine has a good track record on PC hardware! It's CPU intensive though!

RT mode!, watch out!

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
