That, and the fact that Rockstar has never had any GoTY in any year, further proves my point that Naughty Dog has never faced any real competition. However, the important thing to realise here, is that the winner won't have "Remake" in its title

2008: Arkham Asylum
2013: GTA V
2016: Overwatch

If this isn't competition I don't know what is lol.

Also, you guys weird fascination with only counting a game if it wins the most GoTY awards is weird. GTA IV, V and RDR2 won dozens of GoTY awards in their respective years, just not the *most* number of awards.

Now do the same for 2015. Your friend seems to think Bloodborne, Arkham Knight, Fallout 4 and MGS V werent real competition. What do you have to say about that? :p

That has always been his fascination so I just use it against him for teh lulz

Well its weird, if, for example, RE3make wins 100 GoTY awards this year .. TLoU 2 wins 95 and CP277 since 80, I wouldn't call either of those two failures :p

Sure, 2015 was just a competitive year as any other. Fallout and MGS are (were) big franchises in that year.

Which also disproves how numbered sequels have a harder time by default in the award circuit. They clearly don't.

RDR1 says hi. Also, there's no way for you to conclude whether either of GTA III, GTA Vice City, or GTA San Andreas didn't win GoTY in their respective year of release.

Moreover, you're forgetting Bioshock Infinite, which also competed with TLoU. The first game in the series was GoTY 2007.

Two GoTY winning studios competed against TLoU in 2013.

Now do the same for 2015. Your friend seems to think Bloodborne, Arkham Knight, Fallout 4 and MGS V werent real competition.
Out of those, Bethesda is the only studio that previously had a cumulative GoTY win (FO3 and Skyrim).

Therefore, we can conclude that the competition in 2013 was more significant than the competition in 2015.

GTA games are developed by Rockstar North. While Red Dead by Rockstar San Diego. GTA is no better than the Super Mario games in this regard. We're all still waiting for GTA game to say hi lol.

As for Bioshock Infinite, everyone has forgotten about it (see Chandoo's post), not just me. And even you called Fallout 4 the top GoTY contender, alongside MGS V for some reason (lol), so yeah...however you spin it, 2015 not having any "real competition" is a pretty hot take lol

*moment of silence for Bloodborne*

Lastly, all your arguments actually invalidates BoTW's awards as well. By far the most lacklustre year in terms of competition.

Bye.

Point still stands.
Point that 2013 only had one Goty winner i.e. Irrational Games/2K Boston, not two. And that 2015 had Bethesda who have two GotY winners in their catalogue. Seems logical to conclude based on your arguments that 2015's competition was more significant.

Fact: Rockstar San Diego worked on GTAV. Prove me wrong.

Moreover, it's now a part of Rockstar Studios, which is a series of studios working together on a single game. Much like Ubisoft.

Did they have 2 games competing? No, therefore there's no reason to believe there was "more" competition.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the only game where Rockstar Games as a whole are accredited for a game. RDR1 is San Diego studios game, while GTA V is Rockstar Norths'. Additional support does not make each of the different studio a "GoTY winner".

I suppose that makes statements like these ultimately meaningless then.

Naughty Dog, Nintendo EPD, Santa Monica Studio, Bethesda, Valve, and Rockstar (previously DMA Design) are the only studios to have won twice at at least one of these awards.
All this to discredit CDPR. Its about time you let go of this lol

Couldn't prove me wrong, then. Here's more: Rockstar North worked on the original RDR.

Nope, that's overall track record. Doesn't indicate the level of competition in a single year.

Don't think I need to do much. Sasquach will handle the rest

Already proved you wrong.

Rockstar North has not developed a GoTY winner in their lifetime as of today.

So this discussion made me revisit the GoTY 2010 thread and there are some interesting findings.

Awards (so far)

Red Dead Redemption - 23
Mass Effect 2 - 20
1 - BAFTA (ME2), DICE (ME2) and GDC (RDR) all are missing (so much for the 'Oscars of gaming' lol)
2 - Few questionable entries for RDR, namely Entertainment Weekly, EGM and MTV Games

If you factor in these corrections:

Mass Effect 2 - 22
Red Dead Redemption - 21

It turns out Mass Effect 2 was indeed the Metacritic Certified GoTY 2010! @Chandoo

Bye TW3 too :p

But no, that would be an Oscar certified list and not Metacritic certified. I'm absolutely not against a Metacritic certified list. I am only against inconsistency, and the reason I brought this up is because there is an inconsistency between who we look towards to determine Movie of the year and who we turn to for Game of the year. If a foreign film winning at the Oscars after nearly a century was a huge deal, it implies that the academy handing out the award is also a huge deal. This, in turn, implies that similar academies in the game industry should also be a huge deal. Either that, or we should acknowledge that Parasite may not be Movie of the year because it may not have won in a hypothetical Rotten Tomatoes certified awards list, which would also factor in picks from sites like EW and give them equal value to that of the Oscars.

Then go ahead and make a movie of the year thread and tally all awards. If Parasite isnt the winner then it simply isnt. Wouldnt take away from its achievement 'at the Oscar'. Straw man hard at work yet again.

:fp1:
You guys have too much spare time
Thank you for taking out some precious time to make this post. (y)

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
