PC Multiple sources:: The world’s biggest PC games are fighting a new surge of cheaters and hackers

If you’ve ever played a PC game that has a competitive element, you’ve probably played against a cheater. Whether it’s that sniper bullet that felt a little too accurate, the person teleporting around the map, or the opposition that just somehow knows which angle you’re about to peek from every single time. Some of the world’s most popular PC games are now fighting back against cheaters in new and interesting ways — just as cheating becomes an even bigger problem.

Aimbots and wallhacks are the most common forms of cheating in online shooters, allowing people who are new to a game or simply at a lower skill level to get a huge advantage over other players. Some cheats are the obvious type, where a player is flying around a map at an impossible speed or firing a gun faster than anyone else. Others, like wallhacks, are far less obvious, and often go undetected in games for weeks or even months.

Other games like Overwatch and Destiny 2 are also seeing competitive games riddled with cheaters. “Cheating in Destiny 2 is up roughly 50 percent since January,” admitted developer Bungie in a blog post addressing the issue last month. Bungie recently reintroduced its competitive Trials of Osiris mode, and cheaters have become a huge issue on PC since Destiny 2 went free to play around six months ago. Much like other games affected by cheaters, there’s growing community anger over Destiny 2’s cheater problem, with developers slow to respond. I play Destiny 2 far too much, and not a day goes by without noticing a cheater in the game. One Destiny 2 cheater even got caught using wallhacks live on a stream recently and was quickly banned.

The vast majority of aimbots, wallhacks, and other cheats simply don’t exist on consoles like the PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch. The locked-down nature of these systems makes it far more difficult for hackers to gain access and build cheat software. Consoles aren’t immune, as we’ve seen in the past with Modern Warfare 2, but modern consoles have kept most cheaters at bay.

Every platform has its pros and cons I suppose. For instance, as far as I know, games can't have mods on a console.

thus preventing hacking, but that's not entirely true. i have had mods on specific games on the console

its basically for consoles which are JB or hacked. a legit console cannot run mods afaik

The use of a different input device is not inherently cheating. You're still limited by controller deadzones, acceleration, and turn speeds.

Like I said in another thread, come back when you have a visual example of a wallhack running on a PS4 or Xbox One.

P.S. As I've said before, the Switch is a different case. A major security exploit was discovered (similar to the PS3 hack) on earlier models that actually lets you go online with custom firmware applied.

A better source than Dexerto, that's for sure. Not to mention there's visual evidence of the hacks discussed in the article.

If cheaters weren't a huge issue on PC, Riot Games wouldn't be taking terrible measures (a.k.a enforcing a rootkit) to combat hacking in Valorant.

A person who admits to sucking at shooters even on his preferred input device of choice (a controller), is blaming cheaters for him not playing online on PC. And yet, has not encountered a cheater when he plays online on PC (lmao)

I wouldn't say its rampant. I've played dota2 for about 12000 hours now. I've faced maybe a couple of cheaters at most. They're more common in FPS games though, I admit. But again, for someone who plays casually, it isn't as big a deal as it is being made out to be.

GTA Online cheating even more rampant during free giveaway

There are two reasons to be mad about the otherwise great news that GTA 5 is free on the Epic Store right now: One, you recently bought GTA 5 for $30, but not recently enough to get a refund. That sucks. Or two, you enjoy playing GTA Online without modders spawning cages on your head.

As anyone could've predicted, the free copies of GTA 5 have resulted in a spike in cheating, given that permabans are no big deal when there's no money on the line. Over the weekend, one acquaintance called GTA Online "unplayable," partially because Rockstar's servers aren't handling the influx of players well, and partially because of the modding.

GTA Online is an oddity in that players tend to refer to those who compromise the game as "modders" rather than "cheaters." In part, that's because GTA modders can be fun people who use their godlike powers for the amusement of everyone. GTA can be enjoyed without any structure, and spawning a flying saucer for an alien gang is hardly "cheating"—it's harmless goofing around, even if it's against the EULA.

We PC gamers deserve better treatment from developers. Stop designing games for baseline puny console heads and develop decent anti cheat features for us. We like to experiment with the hardware, we like challenges, we are definitely smarter than 10-12 year old console kids.

We deserve all your attention noob devs.

Nah man, these are some armature developers that are having issues. PC has become the standard medium for multiplayer genre. Almost every top multiplayer game is on PC. If they Developers are having issues, they better put there act together.

Rockstar has long history of incompetency on PC platform. It starts from Gta 4 and ends as recent as Red Dead 2 release. But they will fix it. They make lot of money on PC too with thier online offers.

It is pretty amateurish to have the kind of money Rockstar does and not implement dedicated servers and/or a half decent anti-cheat system. Not sure why you'd defend them like that.

Name one PC shooter that has a "half decent anti-cheat system" that actually prevents cheating in said game. There is no need for devs to R&D anti-cheat methods that will get bypassed in a week. Cheating is here to stay on PC. One just has to live with it lol.

Free to play multiplayer games do well on PC. With a few exceptions here and there, paid multiplayer games have a larger (in some cases, much larger) player base on PS4.

PS4 is home to some multiplayer games with missing whole genres. Please do not argue over this.

PC is the go to medium for thosands of streamers over the internet. PC gamers can play games as diverse as CSGo to Halo Wars and Gears on their PC.

PS4 lol is home to some free to play Fortnite or Call of Duty games which are also big on PC. Your target audience to compare is XBOX live.

We can cross play in Street Fighter 5 adn Tekken 7 with PS4 and play Killer Instinct on Xbox live. MMO and Mobas are missing on consoles.

Amazon just launched their new game on Steam. Ever heard of Valorant (yes developers laucnh biggest games on PC) ?? Ever heard of behemoths like League of Legends or Dota 2?

If you are a multiplayer gamer, you know where the action is.
