Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?


What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

For the second year in a row, Sony Interactive Entertainment is skipping E3, North America’s marquee video game expo, which is organized by the Entertainment Software Association.
In a statement to Polygon, a Sony spokesperson said: “After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year. We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”
The news was first reported by Gamesindustry.biz.
Sony opted not to attend E3 2019. It did not have a booth on the E3 show floor, nor did the company host its annual pre-E3 press conference, which had in recent years become a playlist of trailers, with few onstage appearances from PlayStation executives or game developers. At the time, Sony said it was “exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019.”
Last year, Sony launched State of Play, a video series that delivered PlayStation-focused news, a la Nintendo Direct and Inside Xbox. The company has already announced plans to release the PlayStation 5 in time for the 2020 holiday season.
The ESA represents the interests of games publishers and is largely funded by revenues gained from E3. Following Sony’s announcement, the trade body issued an announcement: “E3 is a signature event celebrating the video game industry and showcasing the people, brands and innovations redefining entertainment loved by billions of people around the world. E3 2020 will be an exciting, high-energy show featuring new experiences, partners, exhibitor spaces, [marketing plan] activations, and programming that will entertain new and veteran attendees alike. Exhibitor interest in our new activations is gaining the attention of brands that view E3 as a key opportunity to connect with video game fans worldwide.”

Veteran insider and former GB Alumni Patrick Klepek says expect a lot of stuff from Sony next month. Kinda expected as they also had the PS4 reveal event in Feb 2013.

Your first mistake is trying to make sense of Necro's arguments :laugh1:


Sony doesn't need E3, E3 needs big names like Sony to be relevant. Sony didn't attend E3 last year and the year-over-year attendance dropped to 50% :laugh1:

Oh and before anyone talks about MS's presence there ... Phil Spencer is a board member at the ESA, of course he'll want MS to go there :laugh1:

But given how "successful" Sony's 2018 E3 was, it makes sense for them to withdraw from it.

Who said that though ? :laugh1:

MS is never going to abandon E3 because Phil Spencer is both the head of Xbox and a sitting board member at the ESA. Even Nintendo only runs a video package without any presence at the show. Jason has already said another big publisher will be skipping this E3, we just don't know which one yet. Bathesda is 'at' E3 per say but they have their own conference devoid of the E3 show floor anyway, so that might be it.

Ur confusing a publisher finding relevance at E3 and E3 itself being a relevant platform anymore, they're not the same thing :laugh1:

With Sony not attending, directly causing a sharp decline in show attendance and reportedly more major publishers reconsidering going, E3 is fast becoming an irrelevant event. Gamescom and other European events have 2, 3 times more attendees coming to them compared to E3 now.
