So yeah, thinning hair.

Can anyone recommend a doctor in Karachi who knows about this stuff and can give me a prescription for Finasteride? (yes, I know about the side effects, but I'm prepared for it. It's very low probability anyway)

Would really appreciate any info. Thanks.

I strongly suggest you reconsider finasteride. Are you sure you're fully aware of the side effects and their incidence? Have you heard of post-finasteride syndrome? While the drug is FDA approved, I can't for the life of me imagine a doctor in good faith recommending it over much safer hair transplants. You needn't wait to go bald for a hair transplant, either. You can get one right now, with revisions as your hairline recedes further. Many celebrities have hair transplants, methods have improved a lot.

FWIW, male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) is incredibly common, you can pretty much consider it part of aging. The prevalence % equals age in both men and women (ie 20% of people aged 20, 50% of people aged 50, 80% of people aged 80 etc). Its only a "problem" if it happens when you're in school / college, beyond that either accept it or get a transplant.

The dose will be on the leaflet, or can easily be googled (reliable sites include emedicine/medscape & mayoclinic).

I hope you're making an informed decision. Based on your posts, I'm getting the impression you haven't met with a dermatologist, and are self medicating. This drug isn't to be trifled with. Considering the long term nature of your commitment and the presence of safer alternatives, I have difficulty seeing what reasons you might have, except financial constraints.

Thats a good reason to not get a hair transplant, but a bad reason to take finasteride.

Make your decision based on medical grounds first. Then decide what you can and cannot afford.

Androgenetic alopecia is an incredibly slow process. Your hairline isn't going to dramatically recede over the next 2-3 years. Find out how much a transplant costs, and make a goal to save up that amount in the next 3 years.

In the meantime, you can use minoxidil. This drug isn't as effective as finasteride, but its much, much safer. It also doesn't affect the underlying pathogeneic mechanisms of your hair loss, so the effects beging to wear out in 5-10 years. By then, you will either have the money for a transplant, or will have decided you don't need one.

anything to improve its growth as its already pretty late for me
I have a colleague who had the same problem. He told me uses Castor oil and his beard growth has improved. His beard is still relatively thin and I'm not sure how effective the oil is, but it seems to have helped hair growth for some people on the webs (I did a little research). Wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

I have bought prescription only meds without a prescription, so that's not really an issue, especially if the medication you're buying isn't a narcotic of some kind, but if the side effects are as severe as people are making out, maybe you could consider shaving your head or a buzz cut instead?

The side-effects seem pretty bad but all research seems to point out it is extremely rare. I have enough hair to last a few more years. I just wanted to make sure I'm able to save it before it gets too late.

And yes, the issue isn't that I need a prescription to buy the medicine. I just needed to research what brand names the drug is available in Pakistan and dosage if anyone else has taken it here.

http://www.druginfosys.com/drug.aspx?drugcode=1117&type=1#AllBrands

It shows that the drug is available in 1mg and 5mg. And if you click on 1mg or 5mg, it will show you the brand names of the drug, their manufacturers, and approximate price.

You would take that to a pharmacist, and ask them which of the following brands is available. Alternatively, you could just ask a pharmacist available brands for the generic drug Finasteride.

Not trying to be funny or anything but have you considered to "own" your looks. Like fuck what the people say or think, if you don't have enuf hair just go bald that looks clean as well :p I've seen too many people trying to change how they look. Fun fact I have long hair but they are a little curly/frizzy. My friends and family told me to get it straightened and even I like that rebonded long thin hair but I decided not to. That long curly hair defines me. It's the natural look I have, why go all the way to change it and try to get what I don't have. I say there is a beauty in everything. I'll try to appreciate what I have already. Just my 2 cents tho.

Just for reference, the overall incidence of finasteride side effects is 1.5% (USA data). Individual side effects have higher or lower incidences. For people with the worst side effects, ie sexual (eg erectile dysfunction) & psychological, discontinuation of finasteride results in side effect cessation in only around 70-80%. Roughly 25% of patients continue to have erectile dysfunction etc for many years after discontinuation, even for more than a decade. Theres ongoing research on this, and its been termed post-finasteride syndrome.

The thing is, nobody other than you will ever give a shit about how long and thick your hair is or if you're going bald. Next time you're out, pay close attention to the adult men you see. >50% will have receding hairlines. Male hair loss is pretty much a part of aging, its too common to draw any attention. What WILL draw attention if you have 100 strands of hair curling over your bald area strategically gelled in order to hide what can't be hidden. Just wear a hairstyle that suits you, and for now, let the recession continue.

Hair loss has its greatest mental impact when you first notice it. For the vast majority, this impact reduces with time, so that most cant be bothered with transplants or lifelong drugs. Fun fact: nawaz sharif and imran khan don't belong to this group. Both have hair transplants, Imran Khan's is just not that well known though.

Would you be happy shaving your head and never grow it back again? Easier to say sporting long, healthy hair bish. :p

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.
