salam all pg members, i am facing a problem with my recently bought gpu (saphire 7950) from a pg member. the gpu reaches about 98 degrees in just few seconds during gpu load conditon, and in some heavy games the whole system crashes due to gpu over heating, dont know the problem whats happening, four months ago i ran the r9 280x on the same system without any problem the gpu was of gigabyte brand. can any one else faced this kind of issue with any other gpu??? pics attached for info..

First of all, don't use this GPU again (unless problem is solved) because overheating can also transfer to other parts as well and damage other components as well.
Secondly, Power the PC off and physically remove the GPU and then re insert it again, make sure everything is set firmly (incl the 6 pin wires). Also make sure that the GPU Fan actually runs when the PC is running
Third, try the same GPU on someone else's PC too.

If the problem persists then you'd have to leave the GPU (try warranty if available).

Eh, Probably the thermalpaste just lost it.

Just apply a new one or get it done by a professional.

Karach!
You have not mentioned what is the make and model of your psu.

May be you dont have the required psu for this power hungry card.

Sapphire is cool brand, check your Graphics card if the Heatsink got dusty, sometimes 'Mud' (Dust usually Block the Good Airflow, hence heat sustaiined) remove it. Re-insert the Card into PCIe as Zeus MK said.

if in case the Problem persists then Time for Experiements and personal observation - Apply this Experiment only when you done all other options

  • De-attach/Remove the Heatsink from Card Board, by Removing HEatsink Retaining screws on back
  • See it, there is thermal Paste on the GPU die, Cleaned it. Note the placement of Heatsink on GPU die.
  • Apply the New and Fresh Thermal Paste
  • Attach Back the Heatsink
  • There you Go!

it is very Simple. Check the Card Again, If you feel Temperature's improve then you're lucky, if still same, then you cannot do anything.

Note: Only use a Quality thermal Paste like Arctic Silver 5 or MX2/3.

i think psu is ok for this as i already used gigabyte r9 280x gpu on same system with the same specs.

- - - Updated - - -

i just observed that the gpu core voltage is little high as far as i know, at load the gpu core voltage boosted up to 1.25 v , can any one one help me what is the default voltage for other brands of hd 7950.

- - - Updated - - -

how can you say that thermal paste may be lost, when i put my hand at the exhaust of the gpu air, its feels pretty hot to me,..

1.25v is not that high.
thermal paste can easily dry.
ask the seller for replacing as you said first time testing, or you bought this gpu a while back and this is first time you put it in?

usually 1.25v set for Overclocking purpose to give some breath to higher clocks preventing instability. Anyways, this vcore is definitely not that high When comparing to the Temperatures/overheating. Temp should not go beyond 78c.

Try adjusting you gpu vcore from MSI AB to 1.0875-1.12v and then check. Normally most 7950's are at 1.0875v by default.

yeah have sen some gigabyte 7950 cards that run at almost 1.05v which is really low as compared to mine, yes that was my first time testing after receiving the gpu, the seller said that it was working fine with me, i had also tested this card on my friends core i5 system still the same result, do you guys think that gpu is faulty or any component of the gpu is damaged..

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
