Using multiple PSU in one PC?

Opening a thread after many years. I need some advice from someone who has actually done it.
Thing is with release of new graphics cards older gets cheaper. I have bought GTX 285 for 20 Quid each and bought 4.
I now want to build a Quad SLI rig.
The estimated PSU will be 1200 watt, which is very expensive to buy . In the range of 150 Quid.
But i can buy two 650 watt PSU for 15 Quid each. So will spend only 30 Quid on PSU.
Online i have seen some specialized cards called Add2psu which basically switches both PSU on or off at the same time.
But there seems to be almost nobody who had actually done it and have real life experience of using multiple PSU instead of one for runing a power hungry rig.

Questins are.

Have you done it? If so,share your experiencs.

If its possible then why nobody does it?

Is it safe for hardware?

Will my quad SLI GTX 285 Beat latest top end cards?

It is possible, I have done it but you have to have it in a certain configuration. It will work only if the cards have PCIe 6/8-pin inputs. If so then one PSU will power the rest of the system while the other will feed the PCIe connectors. Some PSUs have this function out of the box, some need two wires to be shot/connected in the 24-pin Motherboard connector to work.

You have to know the power configuration of the different inputs;
- The PCIe slot on the motherboard gives up to 150W of power - 600W
- The PCIe 6-pin power input gives 75W of power - 300W x 2

You also have to consider the other system components too so there is also around a 100 watts more. So 1300W is the actual target you should be aiming for. I would suggest 2x 700W/750W units as the 285 runs out of spec to fulfill its power needs and that also means that you'll have to get good quality PSUs too.

Phil should be held responsible for this shitfest too, just like Sarah, but it's highly likely that these decisions are coming from Satya. And this isn't even the end of it. More closures are coming.

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.

I just want to say a giant F*** Y**! to Microsoft. THEY'VE F***ED UP BIG TIME this time.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
