Hello everyone. I need some suggestions for a home theater setup for my basement.

I have visited desert sound in karachi and have received quotes for KEF and Focal speakers coupled with a Denon receiver plus a Sony 3D projector but I am willing to look into other suggestions and other shops in Karachi which have good knowledge on 5.1/7.1/2 setups.

I have attached a drawing of the home theater which shows dimensions and everything and suggestions according to that are welcome.
Budget I would say is at least a million rupees considering it would be a 7.1/2 setup.

Here's a picture of the theater room.

Do the folks at desert sound let you look at the projector in action before buying or making your decision?

Nascho does not run decent content for demos, not even optical leave alone hdmi to help you decide...I would say use desert sound! Your budget is in the category of high end, in this range you would be much better off ordering stuff from outside or if desert sound can help you but they only carry few brands...in your price range lots of brands are applicable. I'd say go with Yamaha went it comes to receivers and for speakers you have a wide world although kef is decent but importing other better brands should be on the priority list.

Desert sound is overpriced if you ask me, they were asking for 1.5million+ rupees just for the speakers setup, including receiver, projector and the lot but without cables. Nashco quoted me 1.1million for Polk Audio speakers, Onkyo TX-NR929 receiver, Panasonic projector and including all the cables required and also automation. Also I read some reviews and comparisons of receivers and turns on Onkyo is the most preferred brand. More suggestions welcomed!

Okay, well here's my 2c:

Firstly, I would not go with the seating plan you've shown in the picture ... the first sofa closest to the screen is normally the primary seating location for home theater setups, and it needs to be in the center of your speaker diagonal directions .. i.e. center of your room generally .. Placing them on left/right sides will not get you the full impact of the speakers at all .. I can see that the layout is probably designed by an architect who doesn't fully understand the dynamics of a home theater room ..

Secondly, as far as equipment is concerned, your budget is good so that's a plus. I personally imported all my equipment except the 7-channel speakers, which I plan to buy from desert sound. I liked both their KEF and Focal speakers, but KEF are price-wise much better than their Focal ones, and Focals were only very slightly better than the KEFs ... For projector, it depends on what your liking is .. Do you value 2D more, or do you value 3D more ?

Yes this in fact is a random seating plan and is seating is not according to the room acoustics. Like it's there just for the sake of it.
We're most probably going to go with Nashco with their Polk Audio setup. Yesterday I did go to someone house to listen to the setup that Nashco themselves had made and it was pretty good. My father was along and he liked it as well. So I think he'll probably contract them for the interior as well as the sound. And for the projector, we'll be installing one with 3D projection. Nashco is installing Panasonic's PT-AE8000U, how does this compare with the Sony VPL-HW30?

Also, should I get the wall painted accordingly or buy a screen?

so whats u done now
Well for the time being Nashco, but in a few days dad says he's meet with someone who knows a thing or two about sound systems. If he's our guy than we'll buy the goods and have him set it up, if not, we'll just ask Nashco to make the interior as well as take care of the sound system.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

  • L LegacyGamerGuy:
Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.

It is indeed the worst generation by far.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
