[Help] Update a jailbroken iPod touch

Well hey guys, I wanted to update my jailbroken iPod Touch 4th generation (which is currently on iOS 5.1.1 ) to iOS 6.1.2. I tried doing it the other day but I'm getting an error. I already have the ipsw file and the things I have tried doing are
- Updating like a normal iPod, going to iTunes and doing shift+update.
- Shift-restore while in recovery mode.
- Shift-restore while in DFU mode
- Stared TinyUmbrella's TSS server and then going into DFU

After trying all of the above, I get an error while "Preparing iPod for restore" (1601 and 1600 to be exact).

Anything I can do to fix this? Thank you

Do you have the latest version of itunes? Use the latest version and restore without going into DFU or recovery on 6.1.2. Try it on a different PC.

Yes I have the latest version and I tried without recovery or DFU but it still I get an error. I don't have any other PC right now

There can also be a problem with your cable. Try a different cable. Also if you get time then go to a friend's or cousin's house and try it on their PC. Take your IPSW on a usb.

I googled that too, but I don't want to update on my own laptop instead of other people. I don't even have a spare cable and mine works just fine

How about taking it to a shop. If you do so, dont tell them that you are unable to do so or there is some problem because if they know that you're in a problem then their rates highly increase, say like 1k or even 1.5k but if you just say that you want to update it to 6.1.2 without telling your problem, they'll do it for cheap, around 300-500rs.

@OP: Try this. Worked for me on an iPhone.

I updated via iTunes (It was a jailbroken iPhone).
Messed the phone up.

What I did was :
1- Put the phone in DFU mode
2- Restored via iTunes.

Restored and updated normally.

That was about it. Did it on three separate iPhones. I assume it'd be the same for iPods.

When I downloaded IPSW files from the internet (tried 4 different links for 6.1) it never worked.

Eventually downloaded it from iTunes and it worked.

Just saw your errors and cross checked with apple's troubleshooting page.

Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:

Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

Actually its not that there's a different file at different links, they all redirect you to apple's servers and the address in your browser's bar would be something like this: "appldnld.apple.com/....."

I'm not THAT stupid

They were hosted at several upload sites and did not redirect me to apple.

The download via itunes was slow but did the job!

Try restoring without running tiny umbrella
1-Plug your phone/ipod
2-Open itunes
3-Shift + click at restore
4-Select downloaded ipsw
5-click restore
that's is
this method always worked for me never got any issues or errors
