Namco Bandai has announced that Tekken 6 will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America on October 27, with GameStop offering two exclusive bonus items for those who pre-order: a 2009-2010 Tekken 6 collectible calendar, and yes, a costume based on Penny Arcade's legendary Cardboard Tube Samurai. Additionally, Namco Bandai announced that the game will also be available in a Tekken 6 Fight Stick Bundle (PS3 version pictured above), which brings the game, a HORI wireless fight stick, and an art book for $149.99.
The possibility of the Cardboard Tube Samurai appearing in Tekken 6 first sprang up when this image was posted on the official Tekken 6 Twitter account. As it turns out, it won't be a unique guest character, but rather a costume for Yoshimitsu based on the popular Penny Arcade creation (read on below for more images of the costume as well as the collectible calendar). Pre-ordering Tekken 6 will net you a code to download the Penny Arcade "Samurai Pack" that comes with the costume, plus "limited edition Samurai Battle Banners" that can be used to customize the other fighters in the game.
Oddly, the press release notes that "both pre-order offerings will only be available while supplies last." While that makes sense for a calendar, when it comes to an inexhaustible in-game downloadable costume, why would supplies ever be limited? It's also interesting to note that Tekken 6 is getting a console launch in North America first, with the release in Europe, Japan, and the rest of Asia to "follow shortly after." The PSP version of the game was simply listed for release in the fall.
