Salam to all PG members today I bring you a highly desired and sought after watch in the watch collectors and Seiko community. It was also recommended to me by fellow pg members as well plus I needed a beater for daily usage I dont like to baby my watches all the time that's why G-shock and edifice get a lot wrist time.

SUMO / BLUMO SBDC033

Its quite popular in watch community every review that I have read and watched about this watch to date has been positive of course at this price point there are a few things left to be desired but we will get into a bit later. It comes with a matt blue dial and maxi style bezel which matches the dial color really well.

The Box:

You get a very simple no frills case from Seiko even G-Shock comes ia much better case than this. They have put all the money into making the watch here which is a good thing though and I wouldn't care about losing this box at all.

Case:

The case is very well built it has brushed and polished finishes and the transition is superb it feels premium and solid on the wrist. Its a kind of a watch that you would hold and move around just to enjoy the different looks in different finishes throughout the watch the cuts and bends are done really well.

I really like the way bezel blends into the case its covered from the sides so it can only be accessed from the top and bottom which is where i grip it naturally as well I really dig it.

It comes with a solid case back with a stamped Tsunami logo which looks really cool but I am more of a display case back fan however the movement inside isn't finished to degree of deserving an open case back so this one will do

Crystal:

There's no sapphire on this one which i miss a lot but Seiko doesn't like using it much on their watches as they use their proprietary Hardlex Crystal which is somewhat more scratch resistant than a typical mineral crystal so lets see how it holds up in years to come.

Bezel:

The bezel is made of metal with a nice blue color and maxi style numbers which gives the watch quite a bold look the bezel action is fine not the smoothest or the stiffest out there but gets the job done. I like the case design and how the bezel blends in as it gives this watch quite a unique look even when looking at all my dive watches side by side they feel different and have their own personality. There's a huge problem of bezel index alignment on the internet and I am happy to report that my watch is perfectly aligned and It was bought on 1st dec 2018 from Japan and I got it two weeks later so maybe the issue is somewhat fixed or reduced on the new ones.

Bracelet:

You get an alright sturdy and functional bracelet with the watch which is fine for a watch of this price range the lugs are brushed from top and bottom and polished on the sides. it's 20mm on the lugs which seems rather small for a watch of this size but its intentional it gives watch that desired look and the end links hold the watch really well it kind of hugs the wrist and there isnt much if any play in the bracelet once you have sized it to your wrist.

Sizing this bracelet deserves a write up of its own as it has the pin and collar mechanism which was first for me and i had spent around 2-3 hours just to figure out how to size the bracelet properly so heads up to anyone thinking about this or another Seiko watch if it comes with a pin and collar mechanism you need to tell your jeweler about it otherwise your brand new watch will fall off your wrist before you even get out of the shop.

The clasp of its bracelet is a regular stamped one i prefer the machined ones like my Tag Heuer or other high end watches it has two side push release mechanism as well as a push down buckle to keep it nice and secure and comes with divers extension as well as micro adjustments which i might use in the summer as my wrist will expand a bit.

Movement:

It has Seiko in house sr...... movement which is quite robust and holds really well. Its a step up from the ones found in its lower tier monster line up and has manual wind, date and hackable seconds hand. The power reserve is about 50 hours and out of the box accuracy is quoted at around -10 to +15 secs a day however i am gettin +8 sec on mine.

Price:

Its retail price is about 650$ but it can be bought from grey market for about 450-500$ as for me I got it from Japan since its the JDM model and paid Japanese retail on it.

The watch is priced really well if you can get one from 450-500$ you ll be very happy with what you are going to get its a lot of watch for the price I mean there are bracelets that cost much more than the watch itself.

TLDR:
I started my collection with cheap quartz watches there were only two watches at first the citizen eco drive pilot's watch and the white Seiko after 4 or more years my wife gave me the G-shock and then I added some nice swiss quartz pieces such as Versace Chronograph, Gucci etcetera but when I started with automatics I went all out in the beginning with my Bremont marine master and Tag Heuer Aqua racer I have a nice Mido for a dress watch but divers or sports watch are my thing. Its very difficult going back to lower end models such as the sumo here there are a lot of fine refinements that I miss for example in both my luxury dive watches the date changes at exactly 12'0 clock accurately to the last second however on the Seiko it looks misaligned after 11pm and gradually changes to the new date at 12'O clock it looks bad, the bracelet is far away from the one on Tag Heuer the difference in quality is huge, the Sapphire on Tag feels much clearer due to the anti reflective coating while sumo looks a bit muted in comparison.

Start your collection from the entry level watches and then go up the ladder by doing this you will enjoy the incremental changes and advances each watch will bring something new to the table and you will appreciate the refinements better.

If you're looking for an automatic sports watch and you have a buget of around 500$ you cant go wrong with this its amazing for the price

Moved off analog watches for two main reasons - wear mine on right hand so the watch is a scuff and scratch magnet, secondly if it's not a quartz it looses time almost always seiko automatics life with atomic timekeeping is much better :) Good to see someone who is into seiko though, I believe you may already be a member at watchuseek forums if not become one and this could or might turn into a hobby if it hasn't yet.

Thanks for chipping in and its already a hobby and its probably my twenty some watch i have lost the count to be honest as a lot of my watches are in Pakistan at the moment...this is my second Seiko and I have Tag Heuer, Bremont, Citizen, Gucci, Mido, Versace, Vostok, Edifice, G-shock etc just to name a few....you can find my humble watch thread here to take a peak at the rest of the collection, as for Seiko Inshallah there are still a couple of them on my list such as Alpinist, marine master 300 or grand seiko diver, samurai, monster, etc.

Wow man, really like your taste, may I ask what size is your wrist and the case size of that watch? I have a 6 inch wrists :( which keeps me from buying majority of watches.
Here is a watch I bought yesterday:
Bought 2, black one is mine.

6 inch wrist is a problem for me too, so I work really hard to understand what the size of the watch case is, how it would sit, do a lot of reading at watchuseek and then decide.

I have 6 inch wrist as well but I like my watches to wear big and I can pull 40-44mm easily I would try some 38mm down the line as well maybe an old seamster 300 with blue dial, Rolex date just or explorer 1 etcetera. I am wearing the sumo as we speak and it doesn't look that big to me @44mm lug to lug.

Yeah i guess that's the tradeoff there but personally i am okay with it especially when it comes to sports watches it's okay if they wear a bit bigger

Nah man. RDR2 is in a league of it's own. That game is special. Brilliant storyline & characters. Ghost of Tsushima is also a good game, but it's story isn't all that great IMO. It's gameplay, sidequest & combat are really good though.

Finally finished Ghost of Tsushima today (with DLC). It's a pretty good game. It plays like an older Assassin's Creed game but with it's own setting & visuals. The combat is fun. Storyline is decent. Sidequests are interesting. Visuals are pleasant. Overall an enjoyable game. Good to know they're making a sequel.
