From a very trustworthy Insiderquelle we received the alleged specifications to new NEXT generation of the chip RV870. According to the specifications the GPU reaches an arithmetic performance of over 2,1 TFlop.

The RV870, AMDs of first HighEnd diagram chip in 40nm is to offer a very firmnear source, the following specifications:

From the indicated data and Sepzifikationen a theoretical arithmetic performance results of over 2,1 TFlop. Some days ago we received information over 1,9 TFlop.
According to also this source the new GPU should be already in July 2009 ready for the market and on altogether 4 diagram map models, HD5850, HD5850 X2, HD5870 and HD5870 X2, will be represented.
Whether those are so correct indicating, and whether the X2 really gets an easily raised clock in relation to the Singel GPU variant, we are certainly experienced in the coming weeks.

COMMENTS RECIEVED:
much more ROPS , small increase of TMUs, 50% more shaders

if it has same shader arrays as in rv770/rv670/r600 (80 SP per array , 4 TMU per array), then it should be 15 simd arrays with 3.2 TMU per each ?

imho, its fake.

or, its 12 arrays X (100 (20*5) shaders + 4 TMU)
Nah, dont buy it.. only 48 TMU's??? The GT300 would absolutely demolish this chip outright! Heck, a 8800GTS 512MB card has 64 TMU's.

Plus, if there were 1200sp's while maintaining a linear increase in TMU's, there would have been ~60 TMU's.

If this rumor of only 1200sp's were true, then ATI must be trying to go the "small chip" routine once again, just like the RV770 (EDIT: I MEAN RV670). At least I hope it would be the multi-chip module design this time around, with 4 cores packed together on one card without using "software" crossfire. 32 ROP's just doesnt make sense though, for the small-chip design.. 24 should have been enough, huh!
At least these specs aren't exaggerated. Doesn't look like a hefty performance boost though (we're still probably talking say 50% but compared to NVIDIA it might be a bit lower boost) as it's not a completely new architecture (but probably some small tweaks here and there to improve shader efficiency or something). If NVIDIA's is something like the rumors suggests and entirely new architecture and working as planned, I have a feeling this could turn into a G80 vs HD29xx story again. ATI could still offer a very nice "bang-for-buck" ratio though (better than what HD29xx had to offer) and I doubt these if specs are like these would be very expensive to manufacture but it all depends much on how well the 40nm process is doing but then again it looks like both might be on the same 40nm process this time around. Still ATI could sell cards like these very cheap and still get some profit (like HD4xxx series) and that's what I think is the idea here. No $400+ cards but great performance/price ratio at 200 - $400 range, while NVIDIA might be targeting $600 and $400 or so like 8800GTX and 8800GTS launch or something and then bring midrange cards a bit later on and that's what I'd personally plan to play safe so both parties can have their piece of the cake without having arguings who's gonna get that piece or not. :p:

At least to me everything's starting to make sense now.
so lets see what u people think about this!!!
gt300 is a beast no doubt n ATI is still playing at back foot i cant understand ... why ATI is still unable to set any benchmark ... they react slowly untill they react ... most of people have already shifted to nvidia ... they need some BOLD STEPS ... !!!! some outrageous steps ...

Their biggest problem right now, and like always, is bringing out better drivers!!!!
And just the shader count should never be compared as both ATI and NVIDIA's architecture has a different way of counting shader processors. I think everyone knows that.
They also need quality heatsinks...and crossfire might scale well but it consumes power like a biaaaatch!

Man the gddr5 memory compensates for that.

However, if it was 512 bit it would be nvidias absolute nightmare.

We know ATI makes 512 bit cards only in the X2 editions as is their policy. They know that it is cheaper to make two 256 bit cards together than one single 512 bit card as nvidia does. THis is reflected in the pricing.

nice but i dont see too much improvement maybe the new compute shader will make the difference here
