I have a Moto G 5G (2022) and its on android 12, the IMEI has been changed with a cheaper moto phone. There are no ota updates. But online there is a method to flash android 13 on it.

Question is, does anyone have any experience doing these on Moto devices, will it change or reset the IMEI number? Resetting doesn't change the IMEI so will flashing change it? (Pta patch?)

Depends on the method that was used on the phone to get the IMEI changed if it was done using modifying EFS partition then updating the phone will remove the changed IMEI thus making your device non-pta.

If the method was a external tool like Chimera,UMT or others than IMEI will stay intact even after flashing stock firmware,

A general rule for IMEI changed devices is NOT to update the phone if you don't know what you're doing.

It's a first for me using a new phone, I had a Galaxy S7 before

Resetting or wiping data doesn't change anything, also there's no twrp or external recovery installed. Phone is completely stock and unrooted. Checked with Moto PC software and it showed as "Moto G2014" caz of the IMEI.

Seems like it should be fine updating the firmware using PC tool, it's just flashing stock rom. No root, twrp or bootloader unlock.

Just looking for some opinions on this pta patch stuff.

Tools like chimera, umt and other doesn't require a custom recovery, root or even unlocked bootloader in some cases so its really hard to find if a phone is patched through these tools,

Root method on the other hand requires all of these things in order for it to work.
