my cablenet operator has subscribed a PTCL connection of 2MB with unlimited download. He has distributed this connection via LAN to other customers. I am one of them. Problem is that my download speed is 24 KBps which is near to death and I can’t download much bulk.

  • Is there any way to increase my speed?
  • Which software is used to limit speed?
  • Uncapping or hacking modem will work for me?
I am on INTEL standard NIC (network interface card)

No you can't! because cap is set on the server and it's based on the group policy, means all users in some group or a domain gets the constant caped speed. I don't what's the setup of your cablenet provider (Linux+Squid or Windows+ISA) in both cases it's nearly possible unless you are some "I am jonny, I hack stuff" type of guy and know how to make a hole in the system, which I am sure you are not ;)

My cable wala is giving three kinds of connections. 128Kbits/s @600 and 256Kbits/s @800 and 512Kbits/s @1000. He has assigned different IP's for these connections. I am paying him 500 and I have changed my IP to the 512Kbits/s.
