Yes, I have the same scenario. My game is Reg 2, so I bought the DLC on my Reg 2 account and am now happily playing it on my Reg 1 account. So you've got no worries.

But if you're going for higher level PvP such as SL+100 then you have to consider when to stop upgrading your STR stat. Since scaling is only really effective up to a certain number. For example, my Black Bow +15 got a damage boost of around +5 every time I raised my DEX stat by 1. But after I reached 40 DEX, that damage boost decreased to +1 every time I raised my DEX stat by 1. So there will come a time where if you raise your STR stat by 20 levels, you'll only get a +30 damage boost which is pathetic and a waste of Soul Levels. Keep an eye on your damage output as you level up so you can see when upgrading your STR stat becomes meaningless.
I haven't come across many players that actually use the Zeihander as their weapon in STR builds. If they do then it's usually Chaos or Lightning. Nobody relies on scaling anymore. Sad. :<
I had a STR build a while back and I had quite a lot of fun with it. Knowing that you're going for a STR, you have to understand that you won't be fast anymore. You're going to have heavy weapons so unless you wear super light armor, you won't be doing any fast rolls. Most people that go for a STR build stick to 34 'cause that's the minimum STR stat required to two hand a dragon weapon (req 50 STR). You'll be able to two hand the Demon Great Axe with 34 STR as well. This is good if you're going for low level PvPs like (SL40-60). You'll be able to upgrade other points such as END (which would be a good idea considering you'll be hauling heavy gear) or VIT.

I am using the Drake Sword till now.
He might not have installed GFWL. He can download its ~30 MB setup, install it. Then he will be able to make an offline ID. Using that, his game will save.
Also if he has a good PC, tell him to download Durante's DSFix 1.9 (or whatever is the latest one at the time he is playing). This has made a world of difference to the graphics and framerate. Am at level 25 I think. Loving this game.
