its becuz of ur CPU(processor speed), i have 4 gb ram and it says 2.9 gb usable in brackets, and my frined told me that it was becuz my (2.3 gigahertz dual core) Proccessor could only support that much ram, so if u want to use all, u need more proccessor speed
but i think 3.5 gb is enuf since games usually dont need more than 2 or 3
yara i guess he was selling tht mobo for 5K or 5.5 not more thn tht
