While that's good to know, it's a meaningless statistic for a game that stutters. Stray, for example, would have a lower 1st and 5th percentile frame rate targeting 60fps on PS5 than it would targeting a higher arbitrary frame rate on PC, despite being a worse overall experience on the latter, as correctly highlighted by Tom and Alex 🤷‍♂️
That just means the severity is exagerrated by CerebralTiger. A game wouldn't have a higher percentile frame rate if it stutters more, since, ya know, its all derived from frame times. Hence, not meaningless, and a superior experience on PC 🤷‍♂️🤣

A better way to gauge performance in such games is to look at the target frame time and compare it with the number of frames that weren't delivered accordingly.
Nope. There is no "target frame time" when performance is unlocked and the game doesn't reach the refresh rate of the display. There is a moving average and percentile frame rates account for that since its based on frame times 🤜🤷‍♂️

Then, exclude the ones that are within the range of twice of the target frame time (e.g. 33.3ms for the target frame time of 16.6ms) on account of judder. The ones that remain are stutters 🤷‍♂️

I've already explained why percentile frame rate is a useless metric for games that stutter. It would suggest that Stray is a better experience on PC at higher frame rates, when it isn't even as good as the PS4 version running at 30fps.

In the case of unlocked performance (v-sync disabled) with VRR engaged, the extent of frame time variance can be evaluated using Alex's threshold here 🤷‍♂️ :LOL:





This isn't an unlocked frame rate. V-sync is enabled here, and the frame rate targets 16.6ms, regardless of how often it gets there. Only drops below 33.3ms would qualify as stutter here 🤷‍♂️🤜

I mean Im playing through it right now and it absolutely is. Fact is, you have no way to quantify that experience. Come back when you do I guess 🤷‍♂️🤣

I guess you've been conditioned to tolerating worse performance on PC over the years, so "it doesn't bother" you at this point 🤣

In reality, it absolutely isn't, and I've already outlined the process of quantifying it, as has Alex 🤷‍♂️

They didn't, but Alex has tested it in other games that suffer from stuttering to no avail. Put two and two together :LOL:🤜
Alex also said Stray is alot better than other games where it bothers him, and that wasn't at unlocked frame rates, so, two and two is....? 🤷‍♂️🤣

He said it wasn't as bad (a relative statement) as in other UE titles, and that he tested it for 10 mins. The same is said by Tom in the video, and both agree that it is disruptive to gameplay. Now show me where he said running it at unlocked frame rates makes the experience better, because he tried that with Elden Ring to no avail 🤷‍♂️:LOL:


Also, he essentially endorses what I've been saying about 33.3ms+ spikes at 60fps being stutters, and the delta frame time value between successive frames being the important measurement, not percentile frame rate lmao. Yikes Necrokiller, yikes! 🤣

Also, lmao @ barely noticeable spikes above 30ms. Poooor CapFrameX 🤣

Regardless, at least Necrokiller finally agrees percentile frame rate is an irrelevant measurement for games that stutter. Fact is, we have a way to quantify that experience - delta frame time stats 🤷‍♂️:LOL:

Nah, 58fps 5th percentile is all we need for Retooooornal to be best on PC. And thats not even counting the PC exclusive features lulzmarque will develop for PC. Stay tooooooned 🤷‍♂️🤣

    You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
