Boi, this looks totally cool and creepy. Apparently there's a lot of stuff to do in the game as opposed to initial impressions about delivering tools/stuff. At least a DHL delivery guy game is unique unlike just another zombie shooter or GTA 2077. :p

Game looks cool if you talk about story and characters only, that character animation and combat didn't attract me much, just my opinion.

Also "Decima" engine doesn't sound as impressive as it was visually eyecandy in HZD. Sound was so badass though.

Boiiiiiiiiiiii.... Is it just me or did those 8 mins pass by in a blink. We have seen what 3 trailers of this game ? And I still have no clue what to expect when i actually get my hands on this. Typical Kojima san.

Out of curiosity, based on the gameplay you saw in the trailer, what's radically different from MGS?
I saw mere seconds of disjointed clips which don't give any idea about how the world is structured or what the gameplay loop is like. Which is fine for trailer purposes but it doesn't mean the game "doesn't need" any hands-on impressions. Out of curiosity, what was so special about the gameplay you saw?

just another zombie shooter
Perfect tagline for TLoU 2 OT :hah:

It's fairly obvious that it's an open world stealth shooter with melee combat. Not a departure from what Kojima has done before.

I like stealth shooters, and Kojima makes great ones, so there's plenty of reasons for me to be excited about.

Is it fairly obvious that its a contiguous open world? Segmented? Or just linear progression in wide open areas? Will there be back tracking? Trailer doesn't make any of that clear.

What stealth options can we expect from the game based on this trailer? Hiding in tall grass doesn't make a game primarily a stealth one.

There is hardly more than a few seconds of shooting in the trailer to even judge what that would be like. What about weapon or enemy variety? Or the AI?

Not a departure from what Kojima has done before.
Doesn't matter. No one knows how this game plays at this point. It is common for studios to make games which feel and/or play different in the same franchise, let alone IPs, despite falling broadly in the same genre. You may or may not be right, but the point is, its fairly obvious to me that your hype is premature based on the fact that we have no real impressions of this game. One trailer with few flashes of walking around, climbing a ladder, 'intentionally clunky' melee and crouching in tall grass and BOOM, your eyeballs are ready :hah:

so there's plenty of reasons for me to be excited about.
Khodaa paahaar, nikla fanboy

No one cares what genre this game will be, everyone posting in this topic will be playing it for Kojima's name alone.

Anywho, some more 'fact sheet' style information from the game:

And Death Stranding has become the most viewed/liked video game trailer in 2019 based on analytics. For reference, the FFVII Remake trailer's 1 week worth of views were overtaken by DS in 1 day.

Linear progression through wide open areas isn't really associated with the term "open word". It may be segmented like in MGSV and Witcher 3, but that doesn't alter the fact that its an open world game.

What stealth options can we expect from the game based on this trailer? Hiding in tall grass doesn't make a game primarily a stealth one.
Doesn't matter if it isn't primary. It's an option, just like it was in MGSV. The player is free to choose how to approach hostile encounters.

Can you tell us more about the gameplay?

I can’t really speak on that right now but in a word, it’s an action game – an open world game, with a lot of freedom. You have a lot of freedom of choice to do what you want to do and you can get in vehicles and so on. If you are a fighter, there’s plenty of opportunity for that. If you’re not that type of player, there are other ways to play this game. I can’t really say much more, but it’s an open-world, action game that’s very intuitive to play. Once you get into the world and start to explore more, we’re hoping there’s something there you’ve never seen before.

Why would I need to judge the shooting or AI? Can't be worse than MGSV in that regard, so, in other words, it should be great.

It's really not common for studios to make games which feel/play different in the same franchise. What is common, however, is for studios to carry over their competencies from one IP to another. I know Kojima makes great stealth action games, therefore I have no reason to doubt that these aspects will be poorly incorporated in Death Stranding. My concerns regarding the latter are limited to its open world design and side content.

Yep, blind fanboyism/double standards at it's finest. All I really wanted to point out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You're just salty about what I said regarding the lack of hands-on impressions for CP2077 :hah:

Had it been a 3rd person hack and slash RPG with futuristic lightsabers (that sounds cool actually!), I would've been less interested in hands-on impressions.

Nah, that was the only thing you had to latch on to since you couldn't handle the glowing praise it got from the media. Now I can call out your double standards whenever your body gets ready without any hands-on impressions :D

lol @ glowing praise without having played the studio's first attempt at doing this kind of a game. Have we forgotten Ryse: Son of Rome?

Death Stranding is within the comfort zone of what Kojima Productions has done before, so no double standards there lol.

lol @ comfort zone

lol @ glowing praise
Still salty because that praise could've gone towards a typical zombie shooter which also wasn't playable :D

Have we forgotten Ryse: Son of Rome?
That correlation has nothing to do with Ryse being third person. Are we forgetting Killzone ShadowFall? Wasn't that within the studio's comfort zone? What happened there?

That correlation has nothing to do with Ryse being third person.
Crytek made FPS games, then switched over to a hack and slash game.
CDPR made hack and slash RPGs, then switched over to an FPS RPG.

See the correlation now? You'll have to enlighten me about the fallacy I just committed :hah:

Are we forgetting Killzone ShadowFall?
We certainly aren't. The series was on an inFamous downward spiral. The studio ultimately gave up on the franchise.

On the other hand, MGS has had continued success. No reason to believe a game within the comfort zone of what Kojima Productions has done before will fare worse.
