NayaTel – An ‘ISP’ that needs to die immediately before it breeds. The existence of the company and its policies are a threat to internet freedom in Pakistan. What they are effectively doing is turning the internet into Cable TV service where you pay more to get better speeds for 'some' websites and the rest of the sites will be served via a slow connection. This is against what a free and true internet stands for and I wish the company dies off quickly, a bankruptcy will be even better. The name of the executives responsible for this 'idea' should be outed, they should be named and shamed across Pakistan and the world for their screwed up senseless internet policies and view.

While I am at it, some mentions: Jazz, Zong, Telenor should also be named and shamed for their criminal practices of injected JavaScript’s to page ends of websites that aren’t using SSL.

Jazz, Zong, Telenor should also be named and shamed for offering ‘free’ access to the websites like Facebook and other messaging services. This maybe surprising to some people, “Why criticize something you get for free?” The idea behind this ‘free’ access is what can eventually make internet a subscription in Pakistan, where you not only subscribe to an internet package but also subscribe to which websites you can visit. This will kill innovation when the small guys website can’t load on your phone or computer and the big guys can pay and offer ‘free’ access. India is one of the countries that has banned Facebook and other companies from offering free access to their sites using ISPs and we should follow suit.

It is surprising to me as to why I can’t find anyone writing on this in Pakistan.

I do not use NayaTel, nor do I live in an area that supports it, but reading about it's 'offers,' I had to write my thoughts and also wanted to know how others felt.

Im a nayatel user for almost 4 years now , I do agree with you but back in the day it was a good alternate to ptcls garbage copper wired internet and their customer service was phenomenal
But now the customer service is worse than ptcl and the packages makes me want to puke
Literally all of their services are cheap garbage cash grabs

Saying that they should die is a bit harsh... but I do agree with you.

They keep coming up with these cheap tactics, and I hope the fact that PTCLs nationwide upgrades and the expansion of other ISPs like SF and TW start becoming a threat to these guys so they decide to rethink what they're doing.

I mean for fucks sake, 3800 for 12 Mbps, and you pay 300 extra to get 30 Mbps on Google Services? Wtf.

At 4,500 for 50 Mbps, opting for PTCL instead is a no brainer.

Na na meray Bhai 400 extra twd Mila Kay for 30 Mbps Google Netflix and YouTube
You know the sad part never seen 1 4k movie since I opted for it
I complained nayatel at the start about it
They said aap ka tv 4k support karta hai? I'm like yes the guy literally asked me are you sure and I'm like for fucks sake I spent 250000 on it for 4k than he said sir wirless ka masla ho ga, and I told him the device is behind the TV it's literally not 1 feet away and he insisted a lan would solve this issue , so I unmounted the tv from the wall ended up putting a smudge on it but no Netflix still won't go to 4k , they sent a technician at my house who asured me everything is fine at their end masla meray tv ka hai .
Later on i figured out the problem my self which was their routing and had it fixed by my self by restarting the ont multiple times
I have a lot more of these horror stories of nayatel customer support but yeah islamabad/pindi/banigala desperately needs better internet than this garbage

Nayatel are greedy as hell. They were better back in the day because their fibre optic wiring was more reliable than PTCLs copper, but they might well be the worst mainstream ISP in the country right now. Incredibly greedy packages, "add ons" for youtube, netflix etc, and on top of that theres a really small monthly limit and "buy extra GB" packages. They've deliberately kept the monthly limit this small, then simultaneously introduced the option to buy GBs every month. Its seriously pathetic. They also charge Rs.500 or something for a home visit, and their techs will deliberately make 2 visits for a 1 visit job. The only problem is, for a lot of areas, its just Nayatel vs PTCL, and I can't switch until PTCL switches to fibre optic in my area, or until a new ISP appears.

Unfortunately its obviuos that in most areas, its juts them vs PTCL, and they're exploiting it to the max.

Nayatel is now available in my area. Currently I am using ptcl 10 mb package. No other option in my area. Thinking to switch to nayatel because ptcl rarely give me good pings as my line is on copper and they don't have even vdsl cards at my exchange. Although don't like nayatel's limited packages but I think I don't have any other option. Hope they will revise their packages soon.

They're greedy because they can be. What is the alternative to people in Islamabad? PTCL? You think anyone is going to go with PTCL over Nayatel? Never, no matter what PTCL's packages are. I have PTCL 50mbps but I also have Nayatel, because I can never rely on PTCL, but I can on Nayatel. Nayatel has done the hard work of expanding their fibre coverage to most parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. What has PTCL done? Do you know how many sectors are served by PTCL's FTTH coverage? ONE! Do you know how many sectors are served by Transworld or Optix? ZERO!

Nayatel's packages are garbage, but their customer care is not best in Pakistan, but I'm willing to bet it's one of the best in the world. It's certainly better than what you get with big companies like Comcast, AT&T or Verizon. The additional peace of mind you get is the reliability of their service, which I don't remember when it was the last time it ever went out. And because their infrastructure is rock solid, you get reliable cable and telephone services as well.

This is good. I was wondering when Net Neutrality will become an issue to ponder upon in Pakistan.

Unfortunately, not many people are aware of the developments relating to Net Neutrality. It needs active propulsion from writers such as yourself; you have written a very good piece.

You'd need to reach a bigger audience. Probably contact ProPakistani (they'd be interested if they're really Pro Pakistan). Since, this has not been discussed widely in Pakistan, the subject will be catchy.

People aren't aware of Net Neutrality because 75% of the people in Pakistan don't have access to the internet. The 25% that do get a regulated, censored version. You're seriously deluded if you think out of all the issues pertaining to internet in Pakistan, Net Neutrality takes any importance.

The VOD services of Nayatel do not count towards bandwidth usage. Why don't you take a survey from 100 Nayatel users and find out how many are willing to have it counted towards their bandwidth usage and you'll get your answer on what people think of net neutrality.

Where exactly have they expanded ever since they came to Rawalpindi? And it's one thing giving unlimited high speed internet to 5 streets in 2 cities and another giving it to majority of the city.

The fact that Nayatel actually has a data cap should be a huge deal breaker on it's own, before even taking Net Neutrality into account (which btw, is illegal according to our telecom act as well).

It is simple, we need more competition. As long as there are 2 3 companies manipulating everyone the problems are only going to increase. For more than a decade PTCL has been doing this with small ISPs and local internet guys. Thank god we finally have options like Transworld, Optix, StormFiber etc. If we don't support these new growing companies, we'll see our selves paying to access PakGamers.

Their customer service used to be good now it's pathetic and I'm pretty sure on par with ptcl. Back in the day they would change your routing if u want it in a matter of minutes, I was trying to fix routing for some Dubai server and the only fix was more greed , basically if you have w problem they want you to buy their connect package which is even a bigger scam than their regular home packages

Har cheez routing par a k kyun ruk jati hai? You think an ISP is just going to start giving customized routing to anyone who calls in? Let me tell you my experience. There was an issue in my ONT. On the same day, at 9PM, they came over and installed a new one and left at 11PM. You wanna compare it with PTCL? PTCL folks, even if they do visit your premises, won't do it after 5PM. A few days ago there was an issue with the UPS of the ONT. Guess what, they came on the same day and replaced it. They send you emails days in advance for a scheduled downtime.

But no, meri routing nae theek ki so their customer care is the same as PTCL. Some retarded as fuck logic you have. Go live on PTCL for 6 months and tell me if you still want to hold onto that statement.

Support them? Chanda dain unhain har maheenay? All 3 companies you listed are even greedier than Nayatel. Kindly list down the number of places all 3 of these ISPs offer their services. I bet you won't need more than 5 fingers to do that. Transworld is happy serving 10 customers in DHA for the past year. Optix is happy serving 5 in Askari. Bolna asaan hai. All these ISPs offer unlimited high speed broadband because all they need to do is serve at best 500-1000 customers. Fiberlink can't even manage that. Itni achi companies hain to why don't they come to Pindi and Islamabad? What are they afraid of?

When they'll start serving not only corporate clients, but home users of 2 big cities while offering 24/7 unlimited 100mbps broadband, then come complain about how Nayatel is being greedy. Bandwidth is not taleem, bantnay se barhti nae hai, kum hoti hai.

I'm all for Nayatel revamping their packages. They're outdated as fuck. But at least try to apply some logic before comparing them to these companies operating at a minuscule scale.

Data cap is stupid but then again you don't have any FTTH ISP that even compares to the scale at which Nayatel operates. When Fiberlink will start serving the whole of Lahore while maintaining their packages, maybe then the argument may apply.

By supporting I mean giving them a little favor where possible. For e.g: I had PTCL connection it worked fine, as soon as Optix started offering services in my area I switched to them even though PTCL was offering similar packages for less. Since I got Optix connection if I remember correctly I had to call their support for complains 5-6 times at max.

There is no doubt when these "new" companies scale, their services will deteriorate but it doesn't mean we should always stick to PTCL or Nayatel in your case. What do you think how long it took Nayatel to cover service areas it is providing at the moment? It is a long ongoing process. Plus there are strange problems like some towns/housing schemes not allowing new ISPs to enter their vicinity and all that.

As far as I know Optix is scaling at good pace, they are also offering in Karachi Malir Cantt. Fiberlink is planning to enter North Nazimabad as well.
