Hey there.

I have a budget of approx 50K RS. I want to buy the best price : performance PC I can in this budget. This is the rig I've thought of buying to upgrade my PC:

i5 2400 used (~13000 RS)
4 GB RAM (already have 2 GB in spare to make up for a total of 6 GB) = 4500 RS
GTX970 from abroad (for approx 390 CAD and taxes = 36000 RS)

Total = 53500 RS, which already exceeds my budget.

Will the above mentioned stuff work well to provide an awesome gaming experience? Or should I buy a new 4th gen i5 and motherboard (which would be expensive since my old mobo would sell for cheap). The upcoming games must run awesomely on it (I am sure that the GTX970 can handle em). I have approx 14 days to make this PC upgrade decision.

I have the motherboard, monitor, HDD, PSU, casing, fans, keyboard and mice.

A second gen i5 would be enough for ur gaming needs....and u should look forward to having 8gb ram..
Moreover, go for amd cards if u want good performance for lower prices as compared to Nvidia

Your preferred GPU is next generation and for life. so no further point on this. Best product for money (y)

secondly CPU is also good enough to hold most of the games, btw you can find i5 2400 in 10k-11k max. as these 2nd generations are cheap now. In this way you will save few bucks more and spend on Ram to make it 8GB (recommended) or may be not, its upto you.

No need to spend on 3rd or 4th CPU, cost you more and performance gain can only seen in benchmarks. in Games all almost same. Sandy Bridge more worthy.

^ (Y) Thx guys for the advice.

Do you have a link where I could buy a used 2nd gen 2400 for 10-11K (with the heatsink)? I'd love to get 8 GB RAM since it is the recommended amount of RAM for next gen gaming.

A 770 would not be that future proof. I am going to splash the cash once for the next two to three years (just like my current PC which I bought in 2011). So I want to make the best possible setup in this amount of cash. I have this cash and I want to spend it (har saal paisay nahi miltay abbu ki taraf se :p).

I am not convinced with memory. I had 6 GB with my core i7 920 (First generation) and I would regularly run out of ram or on capacity. Also using 4gb chip with 2gb means you won't run in dual channel mode, go for atleast 8gb RAM.
970 is a killer card, no further debate needed and if you can get a good used i5 then its also ok, not best but ok.

I agree about the RAM part. I should get more. I don't run out of RAM despite playing games on highest settings, but for future gaming, this should definitely be higher than 6 GB. Will get more RAM, noted...

Need more opinions about the 2nd generation i5 2400. Will it definitely hold on for 3 years, considering it is already 3 years old now?

It would be fine in most games. You will definitely notice massive fps drops in games which are heavily CPU dependant or have lots of AI at any given time like AC Black Flag. But as long as you turn off settings which use insane cpu computing like PhysX you shouldn't have much problem.
And I can't answer what future proof is like for you. People still use Q6600 quad core processor and they are satisfied with it. For me? No It won't be but if you can live with cpu bottlenecks every now and then it might last you that long.

I guess he's got a relative living in a country where newegg delivers, i.e. (USA/Canada) and get newegg to ship there. And then someone coming to Pakistan can carry the package personally or use third party shipping service (although that won't be cheap as customs will be applicable on it then).

may be i7 2nd or 3rd would be future proof. but it depends on how much you want to spend on CPU part. i5 2500K @14k overclocked @4.5GHz would be Great for Gaming . but few games utilizing more core .more cpu dependant like crysis, watch DOGS, few other upcoming games. i7 2600K would be sweet spot in that case/ depending on your budget too. on PG people are demanding too much for 2600K, try to find in 16k-17k.

I won't be able to overclock anyway because of my motherboard. And I can't spend more on a better mobo. So a non-overclockable, 2nd or 3rd generation processor within 15K range would be ideal.

I just wish that games like Witcher 3, GTA V, The Division or the next 2 iterations of Battlefields run well on it at 1080p and provide around 60 FPS. Or it that too much to ask of i5 2nd gen and a GTX 970?

970 is high End GPU and can run any game like metro, crysis 3 on ULTRA settings, probably give you 60 or so FPS. but on the CPU side i5 2500K/i5 3570 (non-K) or if you luckily find i7 in 15K.

i personally think i5 2500K is more than enough for any game. you don't need to go any higher on CPU part, even if have extra cash. sometimes heavy CPU games, perform much better on higher clocks like 4.5GHz. thats where overclocking matters. for example BF3/BF4,

Hmm, noted. I will try to find a better processor then! 400 cad purchase is practically done (cuz gpu is sax), remaining falls on me. Lets see if I can find a better i5 than 2400. I won't change generations thats for sure. If I can find a better 2nd or 3rd gen proc for a few more rupees, then I'll buy it! :)

Thanks for the advice.

Ok need just one more answer:

Is Zotac good? On newegg and other canadian sites, 970 is out of stock. Only the Zotac version is in stock and I am not sure if I should get this card, or wait for 2 weeks for stock to refill and buy the EVGA one? The delivery time is too high from Newegg.ca (2 to 5 weeks) and thats why I can't take any risks (Mamu will come back by the end of Nov)...

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
