When I opened he box, the first impression was the HyperX branding card, displaying the mainstream products and manual beneath it.
The HyperX cloud Stringer is unboxed. The headset comes with built-in 1.3m wire and a separate 1.7m cable extension for distant connectivity.
Design, Build & Features
The cloud stinger is made of plastic body, not I will judge as best build but pretty much solid in such huge competition. Of course you will have what you pay. The fully black color scheme, with matte black finishing preferable as well. The hyperX logo is on ear cups, actually on both sides, looking terrific.
The Ear Cups are well shaped for ear friendly. Fully black color scheme featuring matte black finishing is what I liked from Cloud Stinger, adding up, I would always prefer matte black finishing. Earcups are directional, means they can be rotate to 90 Degrees while at easy mode. Depends on User’s will. The Microphone is hinge, which can also swing to vertical turn off the mic while swinging upward will turn it ON.
HyperX Signature is engraved on top of Headband. Giving an impressive look and, of course, the quality. The cloud stinger have well-made Head strap, a sizable steel slider can be sized to any reasonable length, means compatible for all type of users. I am using headset without strap adjustment means it’s fitting exactly right on me. However, one thing it lacking is the marks or level signs for adjustments. It’s just a lack of feature. Not a fault.
The ear cups have volume slider at bottom allows to control the volume. Not the device it would control, just the Headset volume. Secondly I like the volume slider on ear cups, excluding any fumble with cable completely.
Microphone is a significant part on Headset which could make or break the deal for some users. Cloud Stinger do carry a well-designed microphone, featuring Swivel-to-mute noise-cancellation microphone. Means if you pull it down you will have Mic ON for voice conference and it will go off if you pull up. The practice doesn’t interrupt any of your operations. In case you feel, just change the direction of Mic.
The headset wire has only 1.3m, for once I was surprised but Extension Y cable saves the day with 1.7m built-in cable makes it reachable to distant system unit. To connect-in-function you will have 4 pole Stereo and microphone jacks which easily connects to respective jacks on motherboard.
Comfort and Fit
HyperX cloud Stinger is designed for average budget gamers and provide most basic features that anyone could afford at a price range of $49. However, from the standard look some may have concern on its comfort level. But to be honest, it has an excellent comfort level.
To start with, first I must state here about its weight. This $49 headset contain all the quality in just 275 grams. It’s very low weight with quality components ensuring impressive results. The ear cup pads are stacked of leather-like, material which allows users to game for longer period of time.
Kingston have done impressive work on cloud Stinger. The hyperX signature soft cushions help you play games for even longer period of time, even after several hours of usage I didn’t feel any strain or pain on ears. I can compare cloud Stinger with my former JVC Rx300 which seemed very discomfort, didn’t allow to game more than 2 hours. In fact after 2 hours of consecutive gaming session I felt my ears are in serious pain and forced me to unload the headset or at least removing on of the ear cups. Cloud Stinger is on contrary provide comfort at very best.
Music & Movies
HyperX cloud Stinger is a Gaming Stereo Headset specifically designed for gamers. However, other aspects needs to take into consideration for final verdict. Movies and Music special reason people actually plays vital role in determining the capability of sound output.
In this regards, I revisit my playlist and start listening to most demanding songs in order to determine what this headset has to offer.
List of songs & Music I used for Cloud Stinger testing.
- Fair Local – Twenty One Pilot
- And justice for All – Metallica
- Silent Shout – The Knife
I am not audiophile but I tried my best to examine the features of cloud Stinger. The above mentioned music list’s been carried out to whole testing process in this phase. Twenty One Pilots Fairly Local is high bass and drum mix. While running I can clearly hear the Bass and other effects. The ear cups does produce some sort of vibration when high Bass touch. However, some minor distortions have been felt at maximum volume.
The knife’s silent Shout is one of the critical track, significant in testing headsets. Silent Shout feel you like you’re in live concert. The Bass is distinguishing clearly while giving overall sound fairly nice. There are several other sounds floating in Silent shout at later parts.
For movies I tried Black Hawk Down to check its sound pressure while being several gunshot sounds around. During the usage, Headset sound crisp in gunshot sounds and chopper roaming. Never felt like multiple sounds are mixing up. I can clearly identify the difference of occurrence happening in the movie scenes.
Since Headset is Gaming, I went through different Games determine the sound performance. I played several games including Metro Last Light, Call of duty Advance warfare and CSGO. During the session, I never felt anything breaking into sound. At different levels, I tried to experiments different sound effects to understand the real impact and It is not difficult to say I enjoyed my whole time with crisp sound quality. In later stages, there are different set of sounds and character voices I did clearly understand what they are rolling into. I have clear footstep hearing of enemies coming around. Although at max volume, in some parts, again I did feel a little bit distortion and some mixing up of few elements and that’s when huge explosions along with heavy gun fights were happening. Other than that it’s nicely levelled for most scenarios. Cloud stinger is not any high end or Best Audiophile product, it’s just an excellent sound experience in limited budget range.
Final testing has been done on microphone, since it completes the final product. Since it has subjected to receiving and conveying some live calls, I used Skype Call meeting from contact list and it sounds just fine.
- High Comfort Level
- Allows to sit for longer sessions
- Sond quality
- Affordable Price
- Fabulous Design
- Sound Clarity Declined at Max volume
To start with Build and design, hyperx cloud Stinger has impressed me greatly. While there are many headsets in market, I reckon this quality product is stand out worthy. The Headband strap is of steel instead of basic plastic. While the ear cup on drivers have memory foam which feels comfort. After hours of gaming it didn’t make me feel any pain. Moderate build quality with matte black finishing giving promising look. Of course it cannot stand rival to luxurious headset. But it possibly competing with many renowned brands in the market.
During sound testing, I’ve used dedicated music to identify the strength of headset. For $49 it performs impressive in the middle weight class. I can clearly distinguish the difference between bass and other effects. In Gaming session, I played games for several hours It sound crisp and lively. However, one lacking is already mentioned in testing phase is that at max volume, minor distortion has been felt which would vanish upon sliding the volume bit down.
I wouldn’t say this is the best you can get, but at $50 range, this seems a pretty good gaming headset you would get for your Ultimate setup, with combo of sound quality and comfort. You may have choices in $30 range but what cloud stinger offering is bundle of features in one product.
Cloud Stinger have balanced Sound quality and nice comfort for longer sessions. A Good headset in $50 range you can get in trendy market.
