More like...

Microsoft: Upgrade when you're ready, while we'll put next-gen experiences on hold for you (not that we had any in the pipeline to begin with lol)

Sony: upgrade to let us deliver the new hardware's capabilities to you; you get what you pay for

You won't be able to play games like Avowed, Fable, Forza, Halo, Everwild, Hellblade 2 etc on PS5. But MS is giving you the choice between Xbox, PC and xCloud.

It would seem redundant to anyone who is open to the idea of gaming on PC. Microsoft has shifted its strategy to services rather than solely focusing on hardware. This has been known for a while now.
Point is, I can play all the great stuff if I have a PS5 and a PC. Xbox is irrelevant.

Except what Phil Spencer is saying and how the gaming media and gamers themselves look at the new consoles is poles apart. Everyone's talking about PS5 versus XBSX whether MS wants to project it that way or not. By coming up with a new console, they have forced this comparison and competition.

This thread basically...

------------------

Gamers wins at the end of the day
I mean, PS4 stuff works on PS5 and then there's some cross-gen releases and exclusive PS5 stuff. There's PS Now as well (even if it's not better). Comparing console to a console, you'll have to get an XBSX to avail that $10 service. Or you need to have a gaming PC which is even more expensive.

MS fans win, sure, but that's not because MS is being generous but simply because it has multiple platforms to offer its games on and earn from, unlike Sony and Nintendo. We are actually going to see a Sony game on PC (Horizon) but I don't remember MS releasing one of their exclusives on Sony or Nintendo's platform.

Good. Microsoft doesn't care because they are focusing on Game Pass primarily, not hardware sales. If you don't intend to own the games or subscribe to their service, you were never a potential Series X customer to begin with.

People used to a console ecosystem will still find value in buying a console. I doubt all the Halo veterans are gonna jump ship and buy a PC for Halo Infinite now.

Who cares? Sony and Nintendo aren't generous either. lol

Only thing that's likely to keep people who are into the Xbox multiplayer lineup from jumping ship is the permanent cheater heaven situation on PC. That is, of course, if MS continues to provide a global console-wide setting to disable crossplay.

Luckily, I don't care about any of the Xbox multiplayer games to the point where I'd get a console in order to avoid cheaters in them.

^ "Although it might be reassuring to Xbox fans to hear that Newell would choose the upcoming Xbox Series X over the PlayStation 5, it doesn't really mean much. From his interview, it appears as if he is simply giving his opinion based on the released specifications for both consoles. While these specs might look slightly more impressive on Microsoft's new hardware, Newell didn't discuss exclusive games or other factors that customers will undoubtedly consider before choosing between the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5."

Need I say more? It's just soundbites. Xbox is useless given PC and PS5 (for the purposes of playing the best next-gen games).

^ Let's hope he announces a ton of exclusives for XBSX so we can see some meaning in his preference. Let's also hope that all those exclusives technically perform better than PS5 exclusives. :p I would totally love to say at that point that XBSX is better than PS5.

Should they not be targeting cross-gen development, Xbox first-party titles are likely to exhibit higher quality graphical features on XSX. But that's likely to be the extent of quality you'd expect from them. With the exception of the Forza Horizon and Ori, Xbox's output has largely been forgettable this generation.

Not sure what that has anything to do with what he was asked....

....but he did release a PC exclusive and it is technically ahead of anything PSVR has to offer. At the very least, I'd love to hear you say PCVR > PSVR now :p

@SolitarySoldier please remind him of the abysmal state of exclusives on PC outside of VR. I'm sure everyone would like to hear him say PS > PC (as a bonus, Nintendo > PC would also be welcome) :ROFLMAO:

Lol :p

Well, I'm not into VR at all, PS or otherwise, so I don't have a reference point or personal experience here to make a judgment. In any case, if we are arguing based on just one exclusive I think the situation is pretty bad already. :p

Also, I'm only questioning the relevance of Xbox, not PC or any other console because I can see their value. As for Gabe's remarks, I think we had established that XBSX hardware is better on paper. But we also established that it would be good for nothing without exclusives (the reference being the competition with PS5). And now we know that it is good for nothing (except for people who want to play MS games on console for whatever reason) because MS itself wants it this way. I'm surprised this needs saying at all. People defend XBSX and also think that MS's competition is not PS5. :p I'm actually disappointed because I wanted Xbox to do better this gen and expected a good competition in exclusives. It's not my personal kink or opinion because gaming media, in general, expected this and pit XBSX against PS5 and it all turned out to be lulz.

You're not questioning the relevance of PC according to your criteria, and can see the value in a platform which has exclusives, but you are willing to spend more than on a console to play Microsoft's games? Sounds like its clear what you value more but can't come to terms with :p

Nope, not only to play MS games. To play those as well as multiplatform and PC only games. This is a good combo. You can play MS games and multiplats on Xbox as well but PC is better in general and offers more. This is why I said earlier that PS5 and PC solve all the problems in a way PS5 and XBSX don't. XBSX would definitely be a cheaper way to play MS games and that's good for people who don't have a PC or don't want one, but it won't help in terms of console exclusives when compared with Sony or Nintendo.

None of this sounds consistent to me....unless you can tell me what PC exclusives are really attracting you towards the platform.

"won't help" in terms of what? Console warz? Any combination of 2 platforms means you are bound to miss out on many games. There will always be a trade off. You talk about PS5 and PC solving all the problems, yet you praise Nintendo for having exclusives. Ultimately, exclusivity didn't sway you into buying a Switch, so why does it matter if Series X games are on PC too?

I'm not sure when I'm getting a PC and it would be a second option anyway (besides PS5). It would primarily be because of multi-platforms because PS5 is obviously for exclusives (or so I would prefer if I get a PC).

I'm just counting Nintendo because it is part of the market and has exclusives (I'm not interested in them). The competition is traditionally between Sony and MS in terms of their console. And there we only have Sony whose exclusives are console specific. You can't get Sony exclusives on PC, but you can get XBSX games on PC. Hence, PS5 and PC is a good combo. Of course, you don't get everything here but forcing Nintendo into the competition doesn't make XBSX any better. :p If XBSX had any hardcore exclusives like PS5, I would've been very much interested in it and PC wouldn't have been an alternative. That's the whole issue. There are no exclusives.
