Here are the boxes for both the consoles.

Notice how XSS's box only mentions 120fps and no resolution whereas XSX mentioned 4K 120fps.

MS gonna play in the grey area for resolution which is expected given the specs of the XSS.

I don't get this 4K 120 fps thing. I saw a review of RTX 3080 where some games were not even hitting 60 fps on 4K maxed-out settings. Unless this 4K 120 fps thing is about indie games or something.

Console games are rarely maxed out versions of PC counterparts unless they come a generation later. Multiplayer games will be able to hit that frame rate target more often. They already showed Gears 5 running at 120fps. As for the resolution, both consoles will not guarantee native 4K in every game as thats upto the developers. Even 8K being slapped on the PS5's box is an indication of what display resolution it supports, not necessarily the resolution games will target (maybe 2D /indie games at best).

TL;DR Original 2001 Xbox 1 and 360 games which support BC will run at 1440p instead of 4K like Series X or Xbox One X.

And Xbox One games which get BC enhancement patches either from MS or the developer of the game itself will also run at 1440p, otherwise non enhanced games will run at whatever the original resolution those Xbox One games ran at (720p, 900p, 1080p whatever it was originally).
