Also Facebook and Youtube are super slow... download speed on "Download Manager" goes to maximum 2mb/sec where as it should go upto 3.2mb/sec as i have 25Mbps connection
So, I searched about this issue quite extensively on Reddit and I found quite a few people having this issue. One of them solved it by reinstalling Windows and so did I. LOL! There might be some Windows update or any registry changes that caused this. I hope it doesn't back. It's just how the internet works - there's not much you can do.
For example, you can go from Islamabad to Lahore either via the GT Road (which is a congested hot mess during the day) which will be shorter, or you could go via the motorway (which is a clean, smooth, faster, more reliable road despite taking a longer distance). PTCL usually uses the GT Road since it is suitable for general traffic and what-not, but you can use a VPN and say that you want to go to Lahore via Bhera (and not Gujar Khan).
Unless PTCL change something and they begin to prefer the motorway for their routes. Good luck convincing them to do that.
What difference would that make? I have already forwarded the ports.just add your ptcl ont to DMZ of your OpenWrt router
You won't be able to fully take advantage of SQM or any type of QoS because the PTCL ONT is still handling routing and traffic shaping after it leaves your router.Anyone on PTCL GPON using OpenWRT SQM? I am using Archer C20 AC750 with the ZTE PTCL ONT in Double NAT. SQM works fine for the most part but the devices connected via WiFi seem to be a bit slow e.g. even the WhatsApp message sending is delayed by a second or two.
I see, but still enabling SQM has improved the latency stability drastically. Since, only the IPTV is connected to the ONT and rest of the devices are connected to the openwrt router so I think it works quite well. You won't be able to fully take advantage of SQM or any type of QoS because the PTCL ONT is still handling routing and traffic shaping after it leaves your router.
PTCL still doesn't offer bridge mode for FTTH so there's no way you can get around it. Enabling DMZ or forwarding ports will achieve nothing.
but what about with torrents?I see, but still enabling SQM has improved the latency stability drastically. Since, only the IPTV is connected to the ONT and rest of the devices are connected to the openwrt router so I think it works quite well.
Everything was working fine including torrents. I have reverted back to PTCL ONT for now. As for the settings, I used piece of cake script with ingress and egress both set to 14000 (for my 15Mbps package). Rest was default.but what about with torrents?
and whats your settings for SQM? can you please share
whats the difference between speed test with and without SQM on PTCL server?Everything was working fine including torrents. I have reverted back to PTCL ONT for now. As for the settings, I used piece of cake script with ingress and egress both set to 14000 (for my 15Mbps package). Rest was default.
Download and upload speeds get reduced to 13Mbps.whats the difference between speed test with and without SQM on PTCL server?
Same here. I'm using 50Mbps after 6 pm it drops down to 2-4 Mbps, facing this issue from last few days. But normally at night YouTube videos are always buffering and it's hard to watch even at 720p and sometimes even 144p videos doesn't load.I don't know what is going on but after 6pm (Evening obviously) speed gets capped to 5Mbps on my 25Mbps connection...this is happening from i dont know how long but i did speed test yesterday after many months...So PTCL is probably doing this from 1-2 months because browsing has been pretty bad and i didnt bother to do a speed test simply because i am on VDSL2 with perfect line stats...
Nah... problem is at backend they are sharing vdsl connection between 4-8 usersAre the speeds capped to 5Mbps or so on ALL speedtests (including PTCL servers)?
Since VDSL is dependent on copper, one theory is that there could be electromagnetic interference from someplace (electricity wires outside your house, or inside your house, or some appliance is turned on and the wires aren't shielded enough).
As in - the issue could be inside your home, outside on the street, or at PTCL's end.
Thank You for detailed replyThat is indeed a consequence of a poor (high) contention ratio.
To rule out gateway problems, what if you do a speedtest from PTCL to PTCL's own testing server? Do you get similar results?
If not, then I don't think it's the contention ratio at fault but some other back end issue. But if you do get the same results, then you're all getting shafted by their bandwidth chokehold.
You can complain, or switch to fiber (touch wood, I haven't gotten any speed problems but customer service is another story... Prompt, in my case, but in the wrong direction), or switch to someone else.
I'm at the point where I've used Nayatel, but ended up with PTCL fiber cause there was no Nayatel, and now that they're digging up outside my house, I'm contemplating. I get 25Mbps with PTCL (constantly) and Nayatel has 20Mbps (I don't mind) - but the monthly costs will be different considering we also use the landline.
Damnit. Choked competition.
