The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an unfathomable follow-up, expanding a world that already felt full beyond expectation and raising the bar ever higher into the clouds.

A terrific Breath of the Wild follow-up with some brilliant new systems, amazing views and more dungeon-type spaces, plus a slightly deadening emphasis on gathering resources.

An excellent sequel and one of the best Zelda games ever made. A follow-up that builds upon and refines the achievements of the original, while adding many new and equally innovative ideas of its own.

Nearly every encounter, whether puzzle, traversal, or combat, must be reconsidered. It makes you think in new ways. I didn’t get the same goosebumps exploring Hyrule as I did in the past, but I did experience new emotions both on a granular level from solving individual puzzles and on a larger scale by going back to one of my favorite video game locations. They say you can never go home again, but I adored returning to Hyrule with all new tools.

Tears of the Kingdom is a triumph of open-ended game design that pays homage to the best parts of the Zelda franchise's own storied history--and sometimes exceeds them.

These are moments where I’m gently reminded that true player freedom is, of course, a fallacy. Nintendo created this world, and I inhabit it. Weeks, months, or years from now, I may affect it in ways its creators didn’t intend, but still — I will be using the tools they provided. The brilliance of Tears of the Kingdom lies in how well it imparts the fantasy of player freedom. Sure, Nintendo shakes me out of the daydream every now and then, and in those moments, I see flashes of its old rigid self. But no matter: At some point, I’ll fully escape its watchful gaze.

I loved nearly every minute of Tears of the Kingdom. From zooming up into the sky to spelunking in the depths, there’s way more to explore here, and I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface outside of the main story and some key sidequests. But the real kicker that helps separate Tears from Breath of the Wild is its big swing power set. I felt like I was in control at all times, and had the ability to create my own path. For a series known for sequence-breaking that’s not just a perk; it’s a strong argument for why Tears of the Kingdom will be talked about for years on end, and may even top some favorite Zelda lists.

As if it was really in doubt, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is another sublime entry in this series. It's not as thoroughly refreshing as Breath of the Wild was six years ago, but as a direct sequel, it takes the same world and manages to transform it with a new over and under world, while Link's powerful new abilities foster ever-more creative play, and a new epic tragedy unfolds before you. As we head into the Nintendo Switch's twilight years, this is practically essential.

Tears of the Kingdom brings together the power of adventure, the wisdom of freedom and the value of creativity, never forgetting what makes The Legend of Zelda so special: epic moments and the ability to thrill. They were not wrong to say that the title is a spoiler: we have shed tears of joy.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is crowned as the best installment of the saga, embracing both the old and the new. One of the best open world video games and the purest form of a legendary adventure.

Although it takes place on the same map as Breath of the Wild (with a few key changes owing to the time-skip and Upheaval, of course), Tears of the Kingdom feels different enough from its predecessor thanks to the new powers and mechanics to stand all on its own. It’s a massive open world that feels dense and exciting without getting clogged up with icon fatigue, since so much of the play is based around physics interactions with the core mechanics, rather than rigid systems

Performance is king
This is all we needed to expose CerebralTiger's hypocrisy when it comes to standards regarding performance.

CerebralTiger prepping his "No Ultrahand, stay away from towns" playthrough. Y.I.K.E.S.!.!.!.! :ROFLMAO:

Didn't expose anything. "Performance is king" means I'll play the best performing version regardless of the visual compromises. There is no better performing version of this masterpiece until the Switch successor, so I'll glady take it 🤜
(y)
Frame time spikes from 33.33 ms to 50 ms, so a delta of 16.67 ms (the same delta when a 60 fps v-synced game drops from 16.67 ms to 33.33 ms). Seems fine, all I needed to know (y)

20fps is shit no matter how you try to sugar coat it and even VRR can't save it (and its not even there LMAO) and that's not even conveying how shitty it'll control at those frame rates. Have an ounce of integrity. Fucking yikes 😬

The game delivers a consistent 33.33 ms for the most part, and only spikes to 50 ms in certain scenarios. This is acceptable performance for a game that targets 30 fps  🤜

Regarding how it'll control when frame times spike to 50 ms, I have a better question. How do Jedi: Survivor, Dead Space, and countless other PC versions of games control when frame times spike above 100 ms? Y.I.K.E.S!!!! :ROFLMAO:

Again, using an emulated version or other versions of completely different games to justify sustained 20fps drops when using a core mechanic does not make this acceptable.

Stop embarassing yourself and wait for this trash to be fixed. 🤷‍♂️🤜

Or...perhaps just stop talking about game performance at all unless you can develop a standard? 🤷‍♂️

The only one embarrassing himself in wake of this masterpiece is Necrokiller. Yaqeenan aag bohat zor se lagi hai. Aur kyun na lagay? Jab khud ke favorite studios trash games banayein ge tou yahi hoga :ROFLMAO:

Gotta find that post where Necrokiller was saying that May is all about Redfall lmaoooo.

Didn't mention emooolation anywhere coz that ain't even worth mentioning. I'll mention other games because acceptability of game performance doesn't exist in a vacuum. If you're finding far worse performing games acceptable coz they're "freeeeee" (no they aren't, time is money), then you oughta have no issue with how ToTK performs. Even the guy who made that DF video found it acceptable 🤷‍♂️

I mean, if its all shifting standards then PC players have been playing this well before Switch owners lmao. Imagine living a world where this game is troooooly exclusive to Switch. YIKESSSS

A potential Switch 2 enhanced version is still an option I guess.

Performance aside, I dont like the low res. fuzzy, overly bright look of the game.

Aur kuch nhi to HDR support to ho proper.

Agreed 100 percent. That's why I haven't bought a Switch.

I emulate Nintendo games on PC. It's free and 60 fps with at least an 8GB graphics card and i7 12th gen :)

In fact, I have found that Emulation is the best use of a PC gaming rig since AAA ports look better when emulated.

Can't argue over the content though, it no doubt is deserving of such high praise.

Just held back by the aging platform!
